AbstractPurposeThe inclusion of salutogenic principles in education deepens and broadens the understanding of the teaching and learning process in a healthy way and opens the potential to create a sound educational environment characterised by the prevention of burnout, improved physical and mental health, and higher levels of achievement. The aim of this review is to fill the lack of comprehensive information regarding the relationship of salutogenesis, sense of coherence, and the process of teaching and learning.Materials/methodsA literature search was carried out in Web of Science and Scopus electronic databases with the cutoff date of July 2020. Search words were sense of coherence, salutogenesis, education, school, academic performance, achievement, students, and their combinations. Altogether 62 articles were found on the relationship of salutogenesis, sense of coherence, and education but only 6 were related to salutogenic teaching/learning process. These were included in the present review.ResultsThe studies included in this review presented salutogenic models related to teaching literacy as a learning process through life, building sustainable relationship between supervisor and students, improving transcultural competence, and being able to solve conflicts across cultures. Practical implications were demonstrated such as the use of drawing as an integration tool to improve self-expression and emotional recognition, realisation of teaching practice as an exercise for self-consciousness, and introducing the concept of teacher as a source of emotional security for students.ConclusionsThe models bring different but equally valuable contribution to the salutogenic teaching process which strengthens the educational environments resulting in better academic performance, as well as physical and mental health.

Since the beginning of humanity, an attempt has been made to explain the way in which man acquires knowledge, the way in which he assimilates, processes and executes it in order to develop the teaching-learning process that people need throughout of his life, which forces to change the learning schemes using new study methodologies, such as neuroscience, which is a discipline that studies the functioning of the brain, the relationship of neurons to the formation of synapses creating immediate responses which transmits to the body voluntarily and involuntarily, in addition to controlling the central and peripheral nervous system with their respective functions. It is necessary to change the traditional scheme and implement new strategies that allow the teacher to venture into neuroscience, in order to individually understand the different learning processes that students do. As some authors of neuroscience say, the brain performs processes of acquisition, storage and evocation of information, which form new knowledge schemes that generate changes in the attitude of the human being, for this reason teachers are responsible for taking advantage of what It is known about the multiple functions of the brain and be clear about the various ways of acquiring knowledge.

It is well known that Hispanic immigrants exhibit better physical and mental health than their U.S.-born counterparts. Scholars theorize that stronger orientations toward the family, also known as familism, could contribute to this immigrant advantage. Yet, little work directly tests whether familial attitudes may be responsible for the favorable health of foreign-born Hispanics. We investigate this possibility using biomarkers, anthropometrics, and mental health assessments from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (N = 4,078). Results demonstrate that the relationship between familial attitudes and health vary depending on the outcome assessed. While Hispanics with strong attitudes toward familial support have fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety, those who report high referent familism display worse mental health outcomes. We find little evidence that familism is linked to physical health or that immigrant generation moderates the relationship of interest. Our results challenge assumptions that familism is responsible for the comparably better health of foreign-born Hispanics.

The environment is one of the most influential components to support the success of students in the teaching and learning process in schools. This is in line with Dirgeyasa's opinion (in Yantama, Ramadhan, and Afnita, 2013) which states that the success and failure of the teaching and learning process is highly dependent on the reality of student input, the teaching and learning process, teacher competence, assessment, and motivation. Ramadhan et.al (2019) said that teachers play an important role in conveying this knowledge to students, because students are the next generation who are tasked with protecting the environment. Environmental education can be integrated into language learning lessons. This integration can be done by using the theme of the environment in text learning. Through the text, students can learn the language and gain environmental knowledge through the content of the text they read.

This chapter focuses on the relationship between technology and education, starting from the consideration that the software design explicitly dedicated to the teaching-learning process is, for the most part, still anchored to a discreet information processing model. This model underestimates the role of the body and corporeality in the teaching and learning process and fails to capitalize on the potential offered by enactive interaction devices already present and widely used in schools and learning-dedicated centers. The opportunities offered by the NUIs in school contexts represent the natural consequence of an embodied and enactive approach to knowledge, valued in school contexts in which the skills of perception and the action are enhanced to foster learning.
