AbstractPurposeThe inclusion of salutogenic principles in education deepens and broadens the understanding of the teaching and learning process in a healthy way and opens the potential to create a sound educational environment characterised by the prevention of burnout, improved physical and mental health, and higher levels of achievement. The aim of this review is to fill the lack of comprehensive information regarding the relationship of salutogenesis, sense of coherence, and the process of teaching and learning.Materials/methodsA literature search was carried out in Web of Science and Scopus electronic databases with the cutoff date of July 2020. Search words were sense of coherence, salutogenesis, education, school, academic performance, achievement, students, and their combinations. Altogether 62 articles were found on the relationship of salutogenesis, sense of coherence, and education but only 6 were related to salutogenic teaching/learning process. These were included in the present review.ResultsThe studies included in this review presented salutogenic models related to teaching literacy as a learning process through life, building sustainable relationship between supervisor and students, improving transcultural competence, and being able to solve conflicts across cultures. Practical implications were demonstrated such as the use of drawing as an integration tool to improve self-expression and emotional recognition, realisation of teaching practice as an exercise for self-consciousness, and introducing the concept of teacher as a source of emotional security for students.ConclusionsThe models bring different but equally valuable contribution to the salutogenic teaching process which strengthens the educational environments resulting in better academic performance, as well as physical and mental health.

This article describes the epistemology of mathematical scholarship, the constructivism view of mathematics and how mathematical learning can achieve the goals of which one is by studying discovery with a philosophical approach that emphasizes its implications on the learning of mathematics. The world of educational research, especially mathematics has shown a shift, which is more emphasize the teaching and learning process and research methods that apply the concept that, in learning someone to construct his knowledge. Humans construct their knowledge through interaction with objects, phenomena, experiences, and the environment. A knowledge is assumed to be true if it can be useful to confront and solve appropriate problems or phenomena. On constructivism view, knowledge can not be transferred from one person to another, but must be interpreted by one person individually. Knowledge is not something that is finished, but a process that develops continuously. In the process that the activity of someone who wants to know, very instrumental in the development of knowledge. Some factors such as limited previous construction experience, and a person's cognitive structure may limit the establishment of the person's personality. Conversely, conflict situations or anomalies that make people forced to think more deeply and situations that require people to defend themselves and explain in more detail, will develop one's knowledge. Constructivism is divided into three levels: radical, hypothetical realism, and the usual. This difference is based on the relationship between knowledge and existing reality.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of leadership styles on academic performance in Junior High Schools (JHS) in Mampong in the Mampong Municipal Assembly of Ashanti Region in Ghana. The design for the study was a mixed study using both the qualitative and quantitative analyzes. It was a correlation survey designed to establish the relationship between leadership styles and academic performance in schools in Mampong in the Mampong Municipal Assembly. Data collected on the leadership styles of the school leaders were the independent variables and the academic performance as dependent variables. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 22 and Epi-Info, a data capturing and analysis software. The study noted that unless the headmasters are well equipped with knowledge and skills in leadership they would not know if they have any influence on their schools and on academic work. The study also established that even though respondents agreed that a leadership style can affect academic performance, the headmasters do not gain the confidence of the stakeholders enough in order to build terms that can enhance quality of teaching and learning. Based on these establishments, it was recommended that teacher training institutions should incorporate in their curriculum, training in the art and science of leadership in order to groom leaders’ right from school. Again, it is recommended that compulsory continuous professional development in leadership should be institutionalized in Ghana Education Service (GES) for headmasters.

Augmented reality is a technology that allows combining realworld life with digital information, through other technologies such as computers, tablets or smartphones. Currently, it is used in diverse areas such as advertising, medicine, arts and education, among others. This research was carried out in the city of Ocosingo, Chiapas, Mexico, in a context where it is difficult to access technology and, above all, connectivity. It focused on using augmented reality in a didactic sequence for the teaching and learning process of the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems in the Natural Sciences subject, in order to demonstrate whether the use of this technology as a didactic tool allows 4th grade students to improve their academic performance. The study was carried out under a quantitative, quasi-experimental and descriptive approach, using data collection tools such as tests designed with dichotomous responses (pre-test and post-test) and surveys with closed-ended questions under the Likert scale. The results show that using augmented reality in the teaching and learning process, within the classroom, significantly increases the academic performance of students compared to the traditional way of teaching these topics in the aforementioned subject.

This study was undertaken during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown to scrutinise the mediating role of parental support on the relationship between online learning and student's academic performance. To realise the objectives, the researchers used the quantitative approach to explore this mediating effect. The population of this study was 7.4 million families who are living in the rural areas in Malaysia. Using the simple random sampling method, 650 parents in rural areas were chosen as the participants in this research. For data collection, closed-ended questionnaires were used by the researchers. Out of the 650 questionnaires, 437 were collected, but only 426 could be used as the respondents did not fully complete the rest. The results of this research illuminated that parent's intervention and support are statistically and significantly necessary during their children's online learning sessions to enhance their children's academic performance during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research can guide academics in public and private education sectors, parents, and the Ministry of Education to focus and upgrade the online learning and teaching methodologies rather than just depending on conventional teaching and learning methodologies. Online learning could be beneficial whenever a catastrophic incident occurs that may disrupt children's education; as such, it would be wise to encourage parents to be always ready for this new way of learning in the new milieu.

Article visualizations:

Special service is an activity related to the teaching and learning process in class, but specifically given by the school to students so that they are more optimal in carrying out the teaching and learning process. The principal must always look at the relationship between special services and the overall education program. In essence, to facilitate the implementation of special service activities, principals are required to have the ability to apply a psychological approach in administering personal. Health workers, cafeteria workers, and guidance officers, as well as other personnel, must feel that they are an important part of the overall administration of the school. Principals must help non-educative staff to achieve this attitude, by providing opportunities to participate in decision making. The principal's attention to this can be seen from his willingness to invite them to other meetings. So the administration of special services is an activity or design to manage a teaching and learning process in the classroom that is specifically given by the school to its students so that they are more optimal in carrying out the teaching and learning process to achieve the stated goals. .
