Indian agriculture has always been less profitable. Several factors contribute to the low profitability in agriculture, but less value addition, weak value chain system and weak market linkage are some of the most important factors. Producer companies are helping small farmers to emerge in the market. The farmer producer organisations (FPOs) linked with the producer companies are the best example of collective actions. The collective actions for the agriculture value chain (AVC) have resulted in a decrease in the cost and an increase in revenue. FPO and producer company find a good place in the underpinning theory of collective action theory. This study examines various successful examples of strengthening AVC through cooperatives and tried to identify various factors responsible for the success of these collectives. This study has adopted a case study approach. Three successful cases, that is, Vasundhara Agriculture Horticulture Producer Company Ltd: a multi-state FPO, Abhinav Farms Club and Sahyadri Farmer Producer Company have been selected for the case study based on their successful interventions for strengthening the agriculture value chain. Primary and secondary data has been collected through telephonic interviews from the board of directors, chairman and the members of the FPO. Both primary and secondary data have been collected to compare the three cases for AVC models. The data has been analysed using a comparative case study approach. The parameters of AVC have been identified using the Delphi technique. The study has found that collective actions have helped the farmers to strengthen the agriculture value chain. The study also concluded that leadership played an important role in defining the success of the FPOs. The study brings out future directions to excel in AVC through collectives.

PT TAF is one of multifinance companies in Indonesia. The increase in low segment sales from 2013-2017 with a high credit amount led to an increase in the quality of PT TAF's receivables categorized as Non Performing Financing (NPF). This increase in NPF was also accompanied by an increase in PT TAF's net loss in 2017 and affected the company's profits. Therefore an analysis is needed to find out factors that influence the amount of credit and NPF, in order to formulate the strategy to manage it. This study uses secondary data of PT TAF debtors which related to the amount of credit, debtor delays and NPF from 2013 to 2017. The approach of this study is a case study in PT TAF about the level of NPF from 2013 -2017. The method used in this study is descriptive analysis and statistical tests. Multiple linear regression is performed to determine the factors that influence the amount of credit, while binary logistic regression is carried out to determine the factors that influence NPF. The results of the analysis will be used to formulate a strategy proposal for controlling NPF at PT TAF. Factors that significantly influence the amount of the credit are vehicle price, age, loan interest, installment amount, income, down payment, type of first installment, type of vehicle, education, gender, credit package, and credit tenor. The factors that influence NPF are the amount of credit, Loan to Value (LTV), the residence area of the debtor and inflation. Background: Ethiopia has been landlocked since Eritrea, a former province, gained independence. Its imports and exports by sea are now sent via neighbouring coastal states, mainly Djibouti, and it needs to ensure sustainable access to multiple transit corridors. Objective: This article aims to evaluate alternative transit corridors to Ethiopia in terms of basic port infrastructure, and logistics costs. The findings provide insights to inform policy on securing reliable maritime access to the country.Method: This study adopts a case study approach by using secondary data to evaluate alternative transit corridors. Following a critical review of theoretical and empirical literature, descriptive statistics are presented using tables, graphs and charts. Results: Low-cost, high-capacity and high-frequency global maritime freight trade is easier through Djibouti than through Mombasa in Kenya or Port Sudan, owing to its better liner shipping connectivity. Thus, Ethiopia should continue to import containerised cargo through the Port of Djibouti. However, direct access to the sea is also important for national defence and security. Conclusion: Ethiopia should therefore secure access through multiple ports to safeguard national security, regardless of economic feasibility. This can be realised by directing break-bulk, dry bulk and petroleum products through ports in Sudan and Kenya. In addition, particular emphasis should be given to seaports closest to the country’s economic centre, such as Berbera in Somaliland and Asseb and Massawa in Eritrea.
