The article considers the specificity of precedent proper names as universal value-based standards and cultural symbols in the texts of Russian political advertisement. The axiological aspect is at the core of the pragmatic impact made by political advertising on the target audience. The research material involves political advertising texts issued during presidential and parliamentary campaigns in Russia in 1993–2018. The author distinguishes between the notions of ‘standard’ and ‘symbol’ as ways of conveying value-based meanings. In the first case, it is the connotative use of proper names and the “rating scale” of evaluation that matter the most. In the second case, both denotative and connotative ways of using precedent names are possible while the rating features are optional. Moreover, unlike names-standards, symbolic names express a particular idea implicitly, not explicitly. Precedent names with value meanings can be rendered both verbally and by means of precedent visual phenomena having an associative link with onomastic units. A significant role in forming value-based connotations is played by the context in which proper names are used. The study has allowed to reveal the following axiological categories represented by precedent names and non-verbal signs: standards of hero, heroic deed, creator, scientist, positive traits of character and beauty; symbols of heroism, patriotism, Russian culture and art. It is demonstrated that proper names connected with the latter three values are most frequent in Russian political advertising texts. A special role is played by names associated with the Great Patriotic War and space exploration as well as names conveying orthodox values.

The article deals with the formation of precedent proper names on the material of the text of the famous poem (book about a soldier) “Vasily Terkin”. It is shown how the image and the name of the famous hero A.T. Twardowski gained universal fame. It also analyzes the appearance of symbolism in the geographical name of Borka, the conditional small homeland of any Soviet soldier on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

The article deals with the surnames of a number of villages in Voronezh region that go back to toponyms and kataikonyms. We have used more than 1300 anthroponymic units in synchrony and 275 indiachrony (according to the revision lists of 1816) as the research material. The purpose of this article is to establish various types of toponymic relicts in Voronezh surnames (exemplified by a number of villages of Povorinsky, Novokhopersky, Talovsky districts of the Voronezh region) using descriptive and comparative historical methods. As a result of the study, we have identified the following types of toponymic relicts from lexical and semantic pointы of view: 1) toponymic relicts dating back to the varieties of toponyms - oikonyms (proper names of settlements); 2) toponymic relicts dating back to katoikonyms - toponym formations (common names of people derived from the name of the residence place); 3) toponymic relicts dating back to hydronyms - proper names of water bodies. 2.5% of the total number of considered anthroponyms have a toponymic basis. Ananalysis of the toponymic relicts preserved in the surnames, classified in accordance with the basics of onyms, allow us to conclude that residents from different regions of Central Russia, from the South of Russia - the Rostov region, Belarus, as well as from Ukraine moved to the Voronezh region, which is also confirmed by historical documents.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of improvement in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after adjunctive therapy with quetiapine. CASE SUMMARY: A 49-year-old white man witnessed a traumatic event and experienced severe PTSD. He was started on paroxetine, with increases in dosage and no significant improvement. Quetiapine was added to his regimen, with increased doses resulting in improvement of PTSD symptoms, both clinically and as measured on the Hamilton-D rating scale for depression and the clinician-administered PTSD screen. DISCUSSION: This is the first case published in the English language literature describing improvement in PTSD symptoms after treatment with quetiapine. There are several treatment options for PTSD, but some severe cases may require treatment with antipsychotic medications. Because of the lower risks of serious adverse effects, the newer atypical antipsychotics are much safer than the older antipsychotics. Although use of risperidone and olanzapine in the successful treatment of PTSD has been reported in the literature, there are no reports of quetiapine use in this clinical condition. CONCLUSIONS: Quetiapine appeared to improve clinical signs and symptoms of PTSD in this patient. It may be a treatment option in other severe cases of PTSD.

Biblical proper names are considered complex cultural symbols of high cognitive and emotive potential for language personality in the Christian community. These names are widely used in different types of discourse, including mass media one, in their denotational and connotational meanings in various contexts. This paper reports the results of linguocultural analysis of the biblical proper name DAVID which is frequently used as cultural phenomenon in the “Time” articles. The material for this research included articles from the electronic version of the journal. We focused upon the intentional use of this name to discover the general patterns of its functioning in a periodical edition and to determine the ways its relative features and attributes are manifested there.

Systems of complex estimation (CO) based on a dichotomous tree of criteria and a set of criteria convolution matrices (generalized criteria) are widely used in the evaluation of a wide variety of ob-jects. Purpose of the study. To build a CO system for a given set of criteria, you need to solve two problems: 1. To choose the structure of the dichotomous tree of criteria. 2. To define matrix convolutions of pairs of criteria (generalized criteria) at each vertex of the tree (except for hanging ones). The article deals with the second problem, i.e. the problem of determining matrices the criteria convolution. In practice, this task is often solved based on expert opinions. Materials and methods. Let us assume that there are a set of options (a variant is a set of criteria estimates) and experts have defined complex estimates for each option from this set. The task is to define matrix convolu-tions at each vertex of the tree such that the CO of each variant in the resulting system CO is equal to the EXPERT estimate. The paper defines a class of unified CO mechanisms that meet the following conditions: 1. All matrices of the unified complex estimation mechanism have the same dimension. 2. For any matrix all rows are different and all columns are different. 3. All matrices are monotonous in rows and columns; 4. If all the variant scores are equal to a certain score, then the complex score is equal to this score. Results. Two cases are considered. In the first case, experts can give estimates of options with any set of criteria estimates. In the second case, experts can give a CO of only complete options, that is, options that contain estimates of all criteria. For the first case, an efficient algorithm with an estimate of computational complexity of the order of lm2 is proposed, where l is the number of crite-ria, and m is the number of gradations of the rating scale. The algorithm makes significant use of the 4 property of unified mechanisms. For the second case, we propose a method for solving the problem by constructing “top-down” matrices, i.e. constructing a matrix for the root vertex, then for adjacent ones, and so on. Conclu-sion. Thus, the paper proposes algorithms for the synthesis of unified mechanisms for complex eva-luation, in which the number of required expert options is minimal.

Background. There are few published pharmacologic trials for the treatment of acute mania following traumatic brain injury (TBI). To our knowledge, we present the first case report of an individual being treated and stabilized with olanzapine monotherapy for this condition. Case Presentation. We describe the case of a 53-year-old African American male admitted to an inpatient psychiatric hospital with one month of behavioral changes including irritability, decreased need for sleep, hyperverbal speech, hypergraphia, and paranoia five months after TBI. Using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) criteria, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to traumatic brain injury, with manic features. He was serially evaluated with clinical rating scales to measure symptom severity. The Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) score upon admission was 31, and the Clinician-Rated Dimensions of Psychosis Symptom Severity (CRDPSS) score was initially 9. After eight days of milieu treatment and gradual titration of olanzapine to 15 mg nightly, his symptoms completely abated, with YMRS and CRDPSS scores at zero on the day of discharge. Conclusion. Olanzapine was effective and well tolerated for the treatment of mania following TBI.

This article explores patterns of language use in oral poetry within a variety of semantic formula. Such a formula may vary its surface texture in relation to phonic demands of the metrical environment in which it is realized. Metrically entangled kennings in Old Norse dróttkvætt poetry provide material for a series of case studies focusing on variation in realizing formulae of this type. Old Norse kennings present a semantic formula of a particular type which is valuable as an example owing to the extremes of textural variation that it enables. Focus will be on variation between two broad semantic categories in expressing the formula’s consistent unit of meaning that are otherwise unambiguously distinct: proper names for mythological beings and poetic terms for weapons and armour. This article introduces an approach to kennings as semantic formulae and includes an illustrative case study on kennings meaning ‘battle’ in the last three metrical positions of a dróttkvætt line. The case study is simultaneously used to demonstrate the degree of integration of mythological proper names in the poetic register. This article contains only the first case study of a series. It provides foundations for examining variation in the associative links exhibited by names of mythic beings as a category according to the metrical positions in which a battle-kenning is realized.

Whenever partial hand amputations for soft tissue sarcomas are attempted, special consideration should be given to achieve a balance between complete resection associated with negative margins and preservation of functionality to the patient so that the hand can support the contralateral intact hand for bimanual activities. This difficult decision is even more challenging within the limited anatomical confines of the hand. Based on our literature review, this is the first case of double central 3rd and 4th ray amputation, as far as we know with good hand function, evaluated by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Rating Scale.

Background: Synovial cysts rarely occur after a laminectomy and are difficult to detect if there are no symptoms; however, they can cause lower back pain or symptoms of radiculopathy. Various methods are used to treat synovial cysts. Here, we will introduce the first case with treatment using the transforaminal epiduroscopic laser annuloplasty (TELA) system. Case report: A 64-year-old female patient visited the pain clinic with lower back pain and pain radiating from the left lower extremity. An MRI T2 image showed a synovial cyst of facet joint origin at the L4–L5 level; the patient had undergone a laminectomy 10 years ago at the same spinal level. The patient rated the pain an 8 on the numerical rating scale (NRS), and pain was reduced after epidural steroid injection, but symptoms recurred a month later. The cyst ablation was performed using the TELA system with a 1414 nm neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser, and after the procedure, pain decreased to 4 points immediately and was reduced to 2 points on the NRS after 1 week. Six months after the procedure, the pain level was measured on NRS 2 and cyst was not recurred in the additional MRI. Conclusion: We introduced the TELA system as a noninvasive therapy for treating synovial cysts. Ablation of cystic necks using a 1414 nm Nd:YAG laser could be a method to prevent cyst recurrence, but long-term follow-up and large scale control studies will be needed to verify the effectiveness of this method.

In the poetic legacy of Vladimir Vysockij, feelings of nostalgia are expressed in diverse ways, conveying various shades of boredom, longing, and melancholy. A special role is played in Vysockij's oeuvre by the so-called “longing for a heroic era”, which is sometimes expressed explicitly, but more often found in the implicit representation of “longing for a heroic deed”. Vysockij's conception of the heroic deed or feat (podvig) casts this as a moral and spiritual state that contrasts sharply with the surrounding world and with everyday life. While Vysockian "longing for a heroic deed" can be associated with specific geographic contexts (including mountains, the taiga, glaciers in the North), this articles argues that it was the peculiar chronotope of the Great Patriotic War that served as the quintessential context for the heroic feat in Vysockij's universe.
