ABSTRACTThis study aims to describe and analyze the implications of the neoliberal model in the dynamics of hospital work, in the view of the nursing workers. It is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research. The scenario is a teaching hospital, and the subjects are 17 nursing workers. The collection took place in July and August 2011, through a semi-structured interview. The data treatment technique was the content analysis. The results show that neoliberalism in hospital nursing work entails several negative impacts, which focus on the inappropriate distribution of material resources, as well as the heavy use of technologies in the process of care. There is also a high turnover of workers contracted due to low wages and precarious employment conditions. We conclude that the neoliberal model has both negative and positive effects. It is considered important to approach this subject in training courses of future nursing staff.

ABSTRACT Objective: to know the praxis of nurses in the hospital context and, from this, to define a concept about Care-Educational Technologies. Method: qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research, developed in a university hospital in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, with 21 nurses (non-probabilistic sampling), through non-participant observation and semi-structured interview, conducted from March to December 2015. Records were analyzed through content analysis. Results: the results showed that in the context of nurses' work, it is possible to deduce care-educational possibilities, based on the person-person, person-tool and/or person-universe relationship. The concept was defined based on the intertwining of caring-training and training-caring for oneself and other people. Final considerations: the reflections point to the need to develop or strengthen the autonomy of those involved in the health-disease process. This is based on the empowerment of people under their lives' conditions, in their multidimensionality, within human praxis.

Analysis of the activity of a professional in the multifunctional service room in the perspective of the theory of significant learningAbstract: David Ausubel Theory of Significant Learning (TSL) is one of the propositions of learning that aims to improve the educational process of students. Introduction Nurses make up the largest portion of the health care system throughout the world, hence, making the profession the backbone of health care. The nursing workforce is made up of both males and females. However, the majority of nurses are predominately females with the number of male nurses reported to be unappreciable. Objective The study therefore aimed to explore the experiences and motivation of male nurses in a tertiary hospital in Ghana. Methods A qualitative descriptive research design was employed to explore the lived experiences of male nurses. A total of 20 male nurses were purposively selected, and in-depth interviews were conducted with a semi-structured interview guide. The interviews were tape-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using content analysis. Results The findings revealed 2 major themes: motivation and experiences of male nurses. The subthemes were individual motivations, external influence, intersecting social reactions and public perceptions, mixed encounters with patients, and satisfaction with the profession. Conclusion Male nurses are motivated to a large extent to be part of the nursing profession but will be deeply involved in the profession if some factors affecting them are addressed. Future studies may address the roles of nurse managers in mentoring more males to be involved in the nursing profession.
