Objectives. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of adult laryngeal papillomatosis in Senegal. Patients and Methods. This is a retrospective descriptive study of patients aged above 18 years with laryngeal papillomatosis and followed at the ENT department of the NUH of Fann between 01 January 2009 and 31 December 2018. Results. The mean age at diagnosis was 37.74 years and a sex ratio of 0.93. The 20–29 age group was the most represented (45.2%). The average consultation delay was 8.34 years. All patients had dysphonia at the moment of the diagnostic and in 35.5% of cases, and it was associated with laryngeal dyspnea. Glottis localization was present in all our patients, i.e., 100% of the cases. A tracheotomy was performed in 9.67% of cases. All of our patients have had their papilloma peeled per endoscopic with tweezers. No cases of malignant degeneration were found in our study. Conclusion. Laryngeal papillomatosis is the most common benign tumor of the larynx in both children and adults. Despite the progress of endoscopy and antiviral treatments, its treatment poses many problems in our undermedicalized countries.

ABSTRACT Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign tumor of the salivary glands and has both epithelial and mesenchymal tissues. It most commonly arises from the parotid or submandibular glands. Rarely, it arises from the minor salivary glands. We report here a case of pleomorphic adenoma arising from the soft palate and both sides of anterior tonsillar pillars in a 75-year-old man. This patient was presenting painless slow growing large swelling in the soft palate over 20 years causing mechanical obstruction of airway and food. Abstract Chorangioma is the most common benign tumor of the placenta. Tumors larger than 5 cm can cause adverse fetal outcomes. We describe the case of a term infant presenting with acute respiratory failure due to fetal heart insufficiency. In this particular case, the presence of a multifocal chorangiomatosis causing fetal heart failure was not diagnosed prenatally by ultrasound but first by the histopathological report of the placenta.

Osteoid osteoma (OO) is a common benign tumor of the bone and is typically treated by thermal ablation with computed tomography (CT) guidance. Only a few cases of multicentric OO have been described. We here report the case of an 11-year-old boy with multicentric OO of the right femur treated with laser ablation under open high-field MRI guidance. The steps of the interventional MRI procedure are described, discussing the benefits and disadvantages of MRI versus CT guidance especially with regard to younger patients.

Infantile hemangioma (IH) is a common benign tumor of endothelial cells in infants. Most hemangiomas are self-limited, but a few may develop and lead to serious complications that affect the normal life of children. Therefore, finding an effective treatment strategy for IH is a pressing need. Recent studies have demonstrated that non-coding RNAs affect the progression of multiple tumors. This study aims to investigate the mechanism by which LncRNA-MCM3AP-AS1 promotes glycolysis in the pathogenesis of IH. We first documented that the expression of LncRNA MCM3AP-AS1 was significantly upregulated in IH. Furthermore, we demonstrated that MCM3AP-AS1 bound to miR-106b-3p which promotes glycolysis in IH. In addition, we found that inhibition of HIF-1α contributed to the transformation of glycolysis to normal aerobic oxidation, partially reversed the promoting effect on glycolysis by the up-regulation of LncRNA MCM3AP-AS1 in IH disease. More importantly, we demonstrated this phenomenon existed in IH patients. Taken together, we demonstrate that LncRNA-MCM3AP-AS1 promotes the progression of infantile hemangiomas by increasing the glycolysis via regulating miR-138-5p/HIF-1α axis.

In spite on numerous experimental and clinical data molecular mechanisms of endometriosis (EM) - the most common benign tumor of the female reproductive tract still remains obscure . The deciphering enigmas of EM gave a birth to a number of hypothesis . System genetics approach used in our studies of common diseases support the existence of special genetic program of EM operative in its development. It is taken for granted that EM results from abnormal differentiation of stem cells (SC). Two major sources of EM SC are considered : SC disseminated throughout peritoneum during female reproductive organs embryogenesis , SC from junction zone the uterine endometrium (2) [6]. According to our reviewed hypothesis [7] the genetic program of EM consists of several critical periods (CP) [8] corresponding to three crucial events in EM development with each of them corresponding to major genome reprogramming in EM cells.

Introduction. Leiomyosarcoma is the most common benign tumor of the bladder. However, it is only a small percentage of all proliferative changes of this organ. Aim. Presentation based on two clinical cases of diagnostics and surgical treatment from laparoscopic access of bladder leiomyoma. Description of the cases. Case 1. The work contains a diagnosis based on transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS), cystoscopy and computed tomography (CT), as well as partial laparoscopic bladder re section of leiomyoma in young women. Case 2. The case of young women with the histopathological result confirmed bladder leiomyoma. Conclusions. Leiomyoma is a rare bladder cancer. Laparoscopic bladder resection is a safe method that leads to healing.

ABSTRACT Introduction Odontogenic tumors (OTs) are a heterogeneous group of lesions that are derived from odontogenic apparatus comprised of odontogenic epithelium, ectomesenchyme, and/or mesenchymal elements. The OTs show marked geographical variation. This study was conducted to analyze the epidemiology and clinicopathological presentation of OTs based on age, sex, and site. Materials and methods This study was conducted in Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology. Records were reviewed retrospectively for all the lesions of oral cavity from January 2010 to December 2015. A total of 92 lesions were found to be OTs and were classified into benign and malignant tumors. They were further subdivided into three subtypes based on the types of odontogenic tissues involved. These were epithelial OTs (EOTs), mixed OTs (MIXOTs), and mesenchymal OTs (MOTs). Results Of 92 OTs, 84 were benign (males 48, females 36) and 8 were malignant (male 2, females 6). The most common benign tumor was ameloblastoma (AME) (20), followed by keratocystic OT (KCOT) (17), calcifying EOT (CEOT) (14), compound odontome (OD-Cd) (12), complex odontome (OD-Cx) (10), odontogenic fibroma (OF) (5), odontogenic myxoma (OM) (4), and cementoblastoma (CB) (2). The most common malignant tumor was primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) (3) followed by fibrosarcoma (FS) (3) and ameloblastic carcinoma (AC). Conclusion Author concluded that there was geographic and demographic variation in distribution of OTs, which may be attributed to socioeconomic and genetic factors. Clinical significance Literature showing prevalence of OTs in India is negligible. By this article, we have analyzed the frequency of various OTs according to sex, age, and site. A comprehensive record of OTs should be started so that pathologists and surgeons would be able to acquire the information about the tumor for reference in the future. They describe some cases of its rare occurrence and unusual location. In the conclusion, they emphasize the prevention of possible malignancy of this type of benign tumor.
