This study was an attempt to explore the role of emotional intelligence on the whole and its components particularly problem solving in EFL learners’ listening comprehension performance in the IELTS tests. For this purpose, a total of 39 advanced learners homogenized according to Oxford Placement Test took part in this study. Participants completed the IELTS listening tests and were asked to fill out the Bar-On emotional intelligence questionnaire. The obtained quantitative data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients. Results indicated a non-significant correlation between the whole EI scores and listening performance of learners. There were, however, a significant relationship between problem solving and EI. The social responsibility component of EI was also found to have a significant relationship with listening. The findings are discussed with regard to the role of the IELTS test as a standardized test and the high level of learners. Implications and suggestions for further research are presented.

The role of emotional intelligence as a significant factor contributing to academic achievement was central in the area of research for several years. In second language learning research, personal and social skills seems to be critical as individual differences in language production. In this regard, this study has attempted to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and speaking skills of Iranian advanced EFL learners. In order to achieve this goal, 96 advanced EFL learners including 48 males and 48 females were randomly selected from eight institutes in Tehran. The design of the study is a quantitative, non- experimental research utilizing a correlational approach. The data were gathered through an EQ questionnaire (namely EQ- i: S, designed by Bar- On), and speaking test (from ILETS samples of speaking tests in the form of individual interview). The value of Pearson correlation coefficient indicated that there was a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and speaking score of advanced EFL learners. The findings of the present study which denoted the role of EQ in speaking ability can be efficiently implemented in educational system through social- and- emotional- learning programs to improve students’ oral proficiency in language classroom. And it is the job of English teachers to exploit students’ full potential in order to facilitate language learning.

Background: Among all aspects of nursing care, the spiritual one is the issue that has received little attention. Having spiritual wellbeing (SWB) is a necessity to provide appropriate spiritual care. In addition to, the Emotional intelligence (EI) is one of the most important factors in social and professional success and is essential for effective nursing practice. Therefore, aim of study was evaluating the Relationship between SWB and EI among nursing students. Methods: The sample of this descriptive-analytic study consisted of 136 nursing students studying at Bam University of Medical Sciences selected by convenience sampling method. The Bradberry and Greaves 28-item EI scale, Palutzian and Ellison SWB Scale were used to assess the total score of EI and SWB. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test and one-way ANOVA with SPSS v18. Results: The mean score of SWB and EI were 97.1±11.56 and 123.4 + 123.6, respectively. The mean score dimensions of SWB include (religious wellbeing 47.9±6.6, existential wellbeing 49.1±5.7) and dimensions EI: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management were 27.2 3 3.2, 36.2 2 5.4, 25.1 + 3.5 and 35.1 + 4.5, respectively. The majority of students have reported moderate level SWB and high level of emotional intelligence. The factors influencing their level of SWB were academic semester and age (p<0.05). Conclusion: Although the level of students' EI and SWB were at a desirable level in this study, due to the nature of nursing and the interaction between nurses and patients, providing a suitable learning environment for the development of EI is essential. Therefore, it is suggested that nursing policymakers should develop appropriate educational programs for nurses and provide curriculum for students to promote their knowledge and skills. Café as an establishment primarily sells refreshing drinks, snacks, and light meals, with coffee being their flagship product. This type of business is steadily multiplying around the city of Tagbilaran, Bohol, Philippines. Customers have linked to business success as well as customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. This study was implemented to analyze the role of customers’ satisfaction in gaining customers’ loyalty, specifically among purposively selected cafés. The quantitative method of research approach was used with the aid of questionnaires. The data gathered were statistically treated making use of frequency, composite means, weighted mean, chi-square test, and Pearson correlation coefficients. The respondents included 210 customers from the purposively selected cafés. Results showed respondents to be very satisfied (VS) for the Product; for the price; for the place; for the service quality; and moderately satisfied (MS) for promotion. Results further showed that there is a significant degree of relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty.

Correlation coefficients between the results of political parties in the 2016 State Duma elections in the Russian Federation as a whole and in 26 regions, as well as in the elections of regional parliaments of 35 subjects of the Russian Federation in 2012–2015 were calculated. For the 2016 State Duma elections, data was used at all levels – regions, single-member electoral districts, TEC and PEC. It is noted that the “United Russia” correlations with all major parties are generally negative. A fairly high level of correlation is observed between the liberal parties. The main focus is on correlations between parliamentary opposition parties and parties with similar names. The correlation coefficients between the results of parties and candidates in the State Duma elections of 2011 and 2016 and the Presidential elections of 2012 and 2018 were also calculated, showing the stability of the geographical distribution of the electorate of the main parties. Regional differences in the nature of correlations between the main political parties are noted. It is assumed that correlations between parties reflect not so much their ideological closeness as the social closeness of their electorate. In this regard, it is noted that a positive correlation between the results of ideologically distant parties (“Yabloko” and the Communist party or “Yabloko” and “Rodina”) is associated with their reliance on the urban electorate and, perhaps, its most educated part. The reasons for voting for spoiler parties and the role of these parties in reducing the results of the main participants in the elections are discussed.

In today’s advanced economies, knowledge has been converted into a key economic resource and a contributing factor for organizational success. In nature, knowledge requires to be managed by each person in order to yield the concept of personal knowledge management (Drucker). In many scientific records, the relationship between personal emotional intelligence, problem–solving, and the psychological traits including emotional intelligences has been stressed. The present paper has aimed to study the association between the emotional intelligence dimensions and personal knowledge management. Hence, this research is a descriptive survey. The data collection tool was a questionnaire including 37 questions and the statistical sample consisted of 302 individuals from the students, experts, and active managers in the field of knowledge management. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was used to achieve the questionnaire’s reliability coefficient, while the facial and content validity was confirmed by knowledge management experts. The research data was analyzed by statistical methods and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Emotional intelligence was measured according to the Goleman’s model in five dimensions, including motivation, self–awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skill. According to data analysis, there is a positive and significant correlation between the education level and capabilities of people in personal knowledge management. All the emotional intelligence dimensions are of a positive and significant relationship with personal knowledge management. Likewise, the research findings proved a significant relationship between personal knowledge management’s four aspects and the five dimensions of emotional intelligence.

One of the most basic questions with regard to mathematical thinking is “What is mathematical thinking?” This question Is not the kind that is readily answered by empirical research. However, research can provide some perspective on the nature of mathematical thought if the question is rephrased: “What characterizes the thinking of individuals who have demonstrated a high level of ability in mathematics?” Research that compares the abilities of very capable mathematics students with those of less capable students or the problem-solving processes exhibited by experts and novices otfers some insights into this question.

Objective. Little research is available on the predictive factors of self-efficacy in college students. The aim of the present study is to examine the role of alexithymia, anxiety, and depression in predicting self-efficacy in academic students. Design. In a cross-sectional study, a total of 133 students at Babol University of Medical Sciences (Medicine, Dentistry, and Paramedicine) participated in the study between 2014 and 2015. All participants completed the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), College Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (CASES), and 14 items on anxiety and depression derived from the 28 items of the General Health Questionnaire (28-GHQ). Results. Pearson correlation coefficients revealed negative significant relationships between alexithymia and the three subscales with student self-efficacy. There was no significant correlation between anxiety/depression symptoms and student self-efficacy. A backward multiple regression analysis revealed that alexithymia was a negative significant predictor of self-efficacy in academic students (B=-0.512, P<0.001). The prevalence of alexithymia was 21.8% in students. Multiple backward logistic analysis regression revealed that number of passed semesters, gender, mother’s education, father’s education, and doctoral level did not accurately predict alexithymia in college students. Conclusion. As alexithymia is prevalent in college students and affects self-efficacy and academic functioning, we suggest it should be routinely evaluated by mental physicians at universities.

The turnover trends in the logistics industry are surprisingly high, regardless of the rapid growth of the industry. Turnover contributes to an impactful loss for the industry to tolerate the new recruitment costs, time consumption, performance disruption, and moral decline among employees due to the workload transfer. Previous literature presented various factors affecting turnover intention, and it could be concluded that factors within an organisation and individual play an essential role in turnover actions. Hence, this research focuses on perceived organisational support and emotional intelligence as factors to turnover intention among logistics drivers in Selangor. Eighty respondents from POS Logistics Berhad in Selangor participated in self-administered survey questions of Survey Perceived Organizational Support, Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, and Turnover Intention Scale. Results revealed that most of the respondents have a moderate level of POS (84%) and a high level of EI (91%). In comparison, slightly half have a low level of TOI (56%). Research also found that POS and EI have no significant relationship with turnover intention, which is contrary to previous literature. Similarly, three criteria of EI; self-emotion appraisal, uses of emotions, and others-emotions appraisal also have no significant relationship with turnover intention. Only regulations of emotions (r=0.024, p=0.031) has significant relationship with turnover intention. Since the current study location was restricted for a few branches of Pos Logistics in Selangor, it limits the result of the study due to misrepresent the whole community fairly. Future researchers are encouraged to extend or increase the sampling size to other companies and regions to make better generalisations.

The role of the accountants in a business environment has been evolving over the years. Accountants need to have the implementation and maintenance skills of XBRL (extensible business reporting language) which is revolutionizing business reporting around the world, in the organization.  The present study encompasses two aspects. First, it addresses the role of the accountant during the implementation and maintenance phase. Second, it finds the characteristics and skills of accountants that can help them in a successful implementation and maintenance of XBRL. In order to collect the data a questionnaire has been used. To analyze data two statistical methods, Regression and Pearson correlation have been used. The results of the study confirm that there is a significant relationship between the participation of accountants and successful implementation of XBRL.

PurposeThe objective of this study is to investigate the role of emotional intelligence and empowering leadership in enhancing psychological empowerment and work engagement in private hospitals.Design/methodology/approachA total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to staff nurses at five private hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 100 questionnaires to each hospital, with an achieved response rate of 34.8%.FindingsThe results show statistically significant positive relationships between emotional intelligence, empowering leadership, psychological empowerment and work engagement. The relationship between emotional intelligence and work engagement and psychological empowerment and work engagement were not significant.Research limitations/implicationsThe study found that employees who have a high level of emotional intelligence and the positive stimulus of empowering leadership demonstrate enhanced psychological empowerment and work engagement.Practical implicationsA better understanding of the role of EI and EL in enhancing psychological empowerment and work engagement could help hospitals reduce turnover among nurses and improve their relationships with patients, as well as maintaining competitive advantage.Originality/valueThe study provides evidence to support the effect of EI on empowering leadership, psychological empowerment and work engagement in private hospitals.
