The article is devoted to the study of emotional burnout syndrome in students of medical higher educational institutions at different stages of training. The study was based on the assumption that medical students at different stages of professional training have differences in the emotional and personal sphere, in the level of sociopsychological adaptation and in the level of empathy. The aim of the study was to study the psychological aspects of burnout syndrome in medical university students at different stages of vocational training. To achieve this goal, methods were used to study emotional and personal characteristics and socio-psychological adaptation. The study revealed differences in the emotional and personal sphere and in the level of sociopsychological adaptation. Also, there are targets of influence for psychocorrective and psychoeducational work with students, namely non-adaptive adaptation strategies, ways to overcome stress and a negative assessment of prospects. And for the prevention of burnout syndrome, it is advisable to use the Stress Management program, which is aimed at teaching and training ways to effectively get out of difficult stressful situations and preserve the resource state, goal-setting skills and proactive thinking, as well as the study of various relaxation techniques.

To date, intensive care medicine, anesthesiology, and resuscitation are medical spheres that deal with lifesaving issues, particularly the treatment of patients in critical or life-threatening situations. The profession of anesthesiologist-resuscitator is relatively new, although it has centuries-old prehistory. The study aims to identify personality traits that predispose to the formation of emotional burnout syndrome in anesthesiologists-resuscitators. The research was performed at the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Departments of the regional healthcare facilities in Astana and Akmola cities. Findings obtained through this research confirm the hypothesis that personality traits in anesthesiologists-resuscitators are factors that facilitate the development of emotional burnout syndrome. Such a discovery necessitates the prevention of personality destructions as well as the establishment of conditions to reduce them in the case of occurrence. Proper arrangement of the work schedule and a favorable working environment allows preventing the emotional burnout among employees.

Medical workers have become a most affected population group during the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19). They were the first to start fighting against an unknown infection and at that stage their psychoemotional state determined not only correct evaluations of a situation but also relevant planning regarding control over it. Our research aim was to reveal risk groups among medical workers regarding developing emotional burnout syndrome and peculiarities of reacting to stress in an emergency epidemic situation. We applied our own author’s anonymous online poll available at Google platform to examine psychoemotional state of medical workers. The poll had a built-in “Scale of perceived stress-10” that included two sub-scales; one of them measured a subjectively perceived level of the situation strain and the other, the amounts of efforts made by medical workers to overcome it. The poll was performed in November–December 2020; overall, 638 medical workers took part in it. They were of different age and sex and had different positions and working experience. We established great variability in individual levels of overstrain as per the stress perception sub-scale (Ех < 0; Ех = –0.59) with more “low” than “high” values as per this sub-scale (Аs > 0; Аs = 5.66). Having analyzed variability of values as per the stress overcoming sub-scale, we revealed that they were homogenous (Ех > 0; Ех = 3.98) with prevailing “high” values (Аs < 0; Аs = –6.97). Medical workers with their working experience being shorter than 5 years turned out to be a risk group with the most destructive reactions to long-term affecting stress factors at work and at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from them, high mental risks were also detected for workers who treated patients with COVID-19 as well as those who had previously had the coronavirus infection. The research allowed obtaining actual data on psychoemotional state of medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and determining potential risk groups regarding developing emotional burnout syndrome. We substantiated the necessity to constantly provide psychological trainings for medical workers with their focus on peculiarities of their reacting during the first meeting with destabilizing factors and with further adjustment of educational programs provided for potential risk groups.

Summary. One of the phenomena of personal deformation is emotional burnout (EB). Emotional burnout syndrome (EBS) can occur during studying in institution (university) and become an obstacle in its process. EBS affects up to 40% (students) of young people studying. Components of learning: social comparison and evaluation, dissatisfaction with the process and the result of learning, feelings of injustice in the assessment of knowledge, unjustified hopes, difficulties in communication are factors of emotional burnout. Aim. To determine the presence and influence of negative factors on the possibility of emotional burnout in students of higher educational institutions. Materials and methods. A one-step (transverse) study was conducted. Social networks popular among students – Telegram, Instagram – were chosen to distribute the questionnaire. In particular, the survey form was sent in such chats as NMU, KT-18, LNTU students, conversations of students of NMU named after O.O. Bogomolets, National University “Lviv Polytechnic” and Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University. Results and discussion. When analyzing the data according to the specialization of the higher educational institution and the year of study, attention is drawn to the increase in the percentage of students studying medicine, dentistry, pharmacy according to the years of study who force themselves to work (learn subjects) despite fatigue. These are the students of second grade – 8.33%, third – 23.86%, and fifth one 25%. The number of such students studying philology tends to decrease from 100% in the third study year to 25% in the fourth one. The number of third-year students who try to study despite fatigue, in the field of economics, philology and management and marketing is greater than among students who study in the field of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy. 33.3%, 100%, 28.5% against 23.8%, respectively. Conclusions. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that with each study year, the percentage of students who feel depressed due to learning difficulties, who feel tired and unwilling to study in senior grades, is growing. It was also detected that in senior grades among students who experience chronic fatigue, the use of psychoactive substances is highly spread. Among the surveyed students, there is a high percentage of probable risk of development of the syndrome of emotional burnout (SEB). It is specified that the percentage of probable risk of SEB increases with each year of study. It was found that medical students tend to feel chronic fatigue and the need for additional motivation to study earlier than other students. Computer science students were the least likely to develop emotional burnout.
