The literature identifies three main types of peer associations: cliques, crowds, and dyadic friendships. When schools create learning communities, an additional type of peer association may emerge that is not based on interactions but instead is based on membership in a shared community. The aim of this study is to qualitatively explore the nature and characteristics of this association, labeled peer bonds. Observational data (n=432) and semi-structured interviews (n=33) were collected in two urban high schools over the course of three academic years. Data were analyzed using the constant comparison method. Findings suggest that there are six characteristics of peer bonds: investment in peer success, shared identity, shared values, pedagogical caring, shared success, and shared failure. The scholarly significance of this study is the expansion of theoretical conceptualizations of peer associations in learning communities while the practical significance is the potential use of a largely underutilized source for academic interventions, peers, by creating school community.

Purpose Past research identifies many positive outcomes associated with workplace exercise initiatives. Realizing these outcomes is, however, dependent on securing sustained employee participation in the initiative. This study examines how organizational factors influence employee participation in workplace exercise initiatives. Design/methodology/approach The study utilizes data from 98 employees who were provided with the opportunity to participate in a workplace exercise initiative. Data were collected via an online survey as well as semi-structured interviews. Findings The paper shows that organizational, rather than individual-level, factors had the greatest impact on employee participation in workplace exercise initiatives. Leadership support for well-being was particularly important and had a significant effect on participation frequency. This relationship was moderated by employee perceptions of employer intentions, such that the more genuine and caring an employer’s intentions were perceived to be, the more likely employees were to participate. Our findings also show that perceived employer intentions have a significant direct effect on employee participation. Research implications We extend research on employee participation in well-being initiatives by considering the influence of organizational, rather than individual-level, factors. Practical implications This research is of practical significance as it highlights the importance of positive leadership in fostering physical well-being in the workplace. It reinforces that sustained participation in workplace exercise initiatives requires deliberate planning, promotion and support from organizational leaders. Originality/value Most studies of workplace exercise and well-being initiatives focus on individual barriers to participation. Our study highlights the important role of leadership support and perceived intentions as organizational influences on employee participation.

Purpose. To consider the concept of “phototourism”, to find out its essence and difference from other special types of tourism, to characterize its classification features. To reveal the prerequisites for its development in Ukraine to increase the tourist attractiveness of the country. Methods. For research, methods such as system-structural, abstract-logical, analysis, synthesis, generalization, observation, comparison were used; classification and literary methods. The system-structural method was used to assess the possibility of the existence of domestic hotels that will be able to provide photo tourists with services such as renting specialized photo equipment, workshops on using cameras, organizing photo tours and others. Thanks to the abstract-logical method, the theoretical aspects of the development and functioning of phototourism in Ukraine were revealed. The comparison method was used to evaluate the pricing policy of digital and film cameras. Results. The classification of photo tours and the specific features of phototourism, which distinguish it from other types of tourism, are given. The main trends in the development and popularization of phototourism in the world and Ukraine are investigated. Foreign photo tours and their specifics are analyzed. A survey was carried out among the population of Ukraine about their interest in hotel enterprises that can provide services for phototourists, organize tours and offer specialized photographic equipment for rent. A comparative assessment of the pricing policy of various types of photographic equipment is provided, which can be used in phototours organized by a hotel company specializing in phototourism. The innovative aspects of phototourism, which can be used in practice in the domestic hotel business, are analyzed. The given examples of such phototouristic regions as Cherkasy, Carpathian, Transcarpathian and Chernigov, which testify to the potential of Ukraine as a country that has the opportunity to expand its tourism market. Scientific novelty. Scientific novelty lies in substantiating the feasibility of creating a hotel for phototourists in Ukraine, as a new way to popularize phototourism in the hotel industry of the country. Phototourism with the use of film cameras is the newest direction in the tourism sector not only in Ukraine, but throughout the world. The practical significance lies in the fact that the popularization of phototourism can bring the industry to a qualitatively new level in the formation of tourism offers and contribute to the creation of a modern competitive tourism product.

Formulation of the problem. Modern global challenges and imbalances necessitate cooperation in new realities, change the interaction nature to counter global challenges by activating the most effective forms, methods, types and mechanisms of interaction and creating a new values philosophy and motivational guidelines for socio-economic interaction. The processes of socio-economic uncertainty of economic prospects in the context of global challenges require the formation of  theoretical and methodological basis for the economic entities interaction. The aim of the research is formation of theoretical and methodological basis for economic entities socio-economic interaction in the context of modern global challenges. The subject of the research is theoretical aspect and methodological aspect of business entities socio-economic interaction in global challenges context. The methods of the research: historical method, methods of verification of theoretical positions (morphological analysis of the content and interrelation of categories, principles and laws, assessment of historical facts to theoretical hypotheses), methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, logical method (hypothetical and axiomatic approach), comparison method. The hypothesis of the research. In the context of global challenges, it is necessary to change the nature of interaction, for which it is necessary to form a theoretical and methodological basis for such interaction and determine the directions of necessary changes in interaction. The statement of basic materials. Within the epistemological field of research, the definitions of "interaction" as social, economic, philosophical, psychological and managerial categories are analyzed. The providing subsystems of business entities social and economic interaction in the conditions of global challenges are determined, among which the normative and legal, financial, logistical, personnel, informational, logistic, infrastructural, psychological, scientific, institutional, organizational supporting subsystems are singled out and characterized. Within the content (paradigmatic and methodological) basis of the research, it is proposed to distinguish the paradigmatic provisions of socio-economic interaction and the methodological basis of business entities socio-economic interaction research in the context of global challenges. The originality and practical significance of the research. The research of business entities socio-economic interaction in the context of global challenges includes four interrelated blocks – theoretical and explanatory basis of interaction, content (paradigmatic and methodological), applied and managerial basis of interaction, which complex covers possible interaction aspects. Conclusions and perspectives of further research. The article considers the theoretical and methodological basis of business entities interaction during global challenges, within which the implementation of the relevant logical blocks is proposed. Within the framework of further research it is planned to develop an applied basis of interaction, which will provide a diagnostic and prognostic field of socio-economic interaction in the context of global challenges and modeling of of business entities socio-economic interaction, as well as management basis of interaction of business entities, which will provide a sequence of management stages of the socio-economic interaction process and determine the interaction effectiveness in global challenges.

Students who have parents deployed to a war zone are more vulnerable to an increased level of stress and anxiety, health problems, behavioural disorders and academic under-achievement. Yet, little is known about the processes employed by schools to support these students. This study investigated the deployment support work conducted by Defence School Transition Aides who are employed in some Australian schools to support students from Australian Defence Force families to manage the transitions associated with school mobility and parental absence for service reasons. Fifteen parents, 17 teachers and 15 Defence School Transition Aides were asked, in semi-structured interviews, to describe students’ responses to parental deployment, how their schools supported students and what specific processes were employed by Defence School Transition Aides to assist students’ coping during parental deployment. Findings from qualitative analyses, suggest that Defence School Transition Aides assist school communities to build their schools’ capacity to support students with deployed parents by raising the school communities’ awareness of these students’ specific needs.

BackgroundOperational failures, defined as inadequacies or errors in the information, supplies, or equipment needed for patient care, are known to be highly consequential in hospital environments. Despite their likely relevance for GPs’ experiences of work, they remain under-explored in primary care.AimTo identify operational failures in the primary care work environment and to examine how they influence GPs’ work.Design and settingQualitative interview study in the East of England.MethodSemi-structured interviews were conducted with GPs (n = 21). Data analysis was based on the constant comparison method.ResultsGPs reported a large burden of operational failures, many of them related to information transfer with external healthcare providers, practice technology, and organisation of work within practices. Faced with operational failures, GPs undertook ‘compensatory labour’ to fulfil their duties of coordinating and safeguarding patients’ care. Dealing with operational failures imposed significant additional strain in the context of already stretched daily schedules, but this work remained largely invisible. In part, this was because GPs acted to fix problems in the here-and-now rather than referring them to source, and they characteristically did not report operational failures at system level. They also identified challenges in making process improvements at practice level, including medicolegal uncertainties about delegation.ConclusionOperational failures in primary care matter for GPs and their experience of work. Compensatory labour is burdensome with an unintended consequence of rendering these failures largely invisible. Recognition of the significance of operational failures should stimulate efforts to make the primary care work environment more attractive.

Abstract Within Australia food insecurity affects an estimated 4 million people annually. Health promotion degrees traditionally prepare pre-service graduates to address food insecurity from a social determinants perspective, little consideration of integrating ecological determinants, however, has been noted. This is a significant problem considering unprecedented environmental challenges facing future food production. Education for sustainability (EfS) is purported to develop graduates who can respond to significant sustainability issues in the 21st century. This study examined the potential for health promotion degrees to utilize EfS to address food insecurity through an ecological lens. The study also illustrates why it might be valuable for academics to use such an approach. Semi-structured interviews with 15 Australian health and sustainability academics and document analysis of 26 associated teaching units was undertaken. Thematic analysis informed the data analysis process to provide meaning and insight into emerging themes. Academics were unaware of EfS or its potential for developing ecologically literate graduates. A lack of university commitment towards sustainability and knowledge and skills to implement EfS were identified as potential barriers. Academics, however, were ascribing to the central tenets used in EfS such as interdisciplinary thinking and reflective practice, demonstrating its potential use in health promotion. EfS, as a framework for incorporating an ecological perspective into health promotion degrees has not been fully realized. This study suggests capacity building of academics with regard to the use of EfS as an approach within health promotion degrees to address significant sustainability issues in the 21st century, such as food insecurity.

Peer Mentoring schemes tend to be developed as retention strategies, however they can also serve other purposes (psychosocial or career-related). However, evidence of the effectiveness of these presents mixed results and less is known about horizontal peer support schemes which may help students capitalise on existing peer relationships. We developed an “Integrated Learning Communities” (ILC) peer support scheme, building on the theoretical principles of Social Identity Theory (SIT), which we embedded within our existing teaching framework and designed functional activities. Collective activities were undertaken to promote the processes of social identity with the intention that these may foster social and academic integration experiences. This intervention was undertaken with an entire cohort of first year undergraduate psychology students. We conducted semi-structured interviews with a self-selected sample of these students (N = 17). Thematic analysis revealed two main themes, each with two sub-themes. These were: “Divergent Experiences” with the sub-themes of “dependent on people” and “types of support”, and “Good idea in principle” with the sub-themes of “Theory ≠ Practice” and “Dependent on student engagement”. Although identifying with a peer group was not transparent in the interviews, the existence of a peer support scheme was perceived positively by students which might explain the success of the newly developed student-led Psychology Society. Indeed, this Psychology Society can provide a lasting framework for further amplification of the student voice. We conclude that our embedded ILC was both feasible and potentially valuable, but it is crucial for the peer support approach to have transactional significance.

Formulation of the problem. Today most developed countries associate long-term sustainable economic growth with the transition to innovative path of development, so the problem of creating and ensuring the efficient functioning of innovative cluster structures, in particular banking, is extremely urgent. The aim of the research is systematization of theoretical and methodological provisions on the creation of banking cluster structures to enhance the innovativeness of Ukraine banking system. The subject of the research is formation and functioning of innovative banking clusters in Ukraine. The methods of the research: meaningful method, comparison method, induction and deduction methods, cluster analysis, etc. The hypothesis of the research. There is a need to create innovative banking clusters to increase the innovativeness of the Ukraine banking system. The statement of basic materials. The definitions of the term “innovation cluster” and “banking innovations” are analyzed. It is determined that banking innovations in Ukraine are aimed mainly at creating new or modernizing existing banking products and services and developing automated banking systems. The advantages of creation of innovative banking clusters are characterized and algorithm of banks cluster analysis realization and algorithm of innovative banking clusters creation are developed. The originality and practical significance of the research are algorithm of banks cluster analysis realization and algorithm of innovative banking clusters creation, which makes possible to determine the sequence of actions required for cluster structures formation. Conclusions and perspectives of further research. Prospects of creation of innovative banking clusters are characterized and algorithm of banks cluster analysis realization and algorithm of innovative banking clusters creation are developed. These algorithms will ensure close interaction between the cluster members and the generation of new ideas, will increase the innovativeness of the production and providing of banking services.

Abstract Background: The primary purpose of this research was to confirm whether the essential conditions for taking a Comprehensive School Health (CSH) approach held true in other contexts across Canada. The secondary purpose was to determine if the development of an evaluative tool or resource is needed to assess the implementation of the essential conditions. Methods: Data were generated through individual semi-structured interviews (n = 38) and small focus groups (n = 3) with 45 participants across Canada involved in implementing policies or programs which take a CSH approach. Interviews were subjected to content analysis. Results: There was positive support for the essential conditions and results indicated the essential conditions are relevant across Canada. Findings revealed the necessity for a new essential condition that reflected support and leadership from the school district and/or provincial/territorial governing bodies. Modifications to the description of each of the essential conditions were also suggested to provide clarity. Results also indicated that an evaluative tool that was concise, meaningful, and provided immediate feedback would be useful to school communities to establish readiness, assess, and improve ongoing implementation of CSH approaches. Conclusions: This research contributes to the evidence-base of CSH by providing school communities across Canada with a set of refined and understandable essential conditions that support successful implementation. Further, the development of an evaluation tool will support school health champions, researchers, and policymakers in the optimization and implementation of policies or programs which take a CSH approach, ultimately supporting healthier school communities across the country.
