WEBSITE AS A MEANS OF ADVERTISING CITIES OF THE WORLD: STRUCTURAL-SEMANTIC AND PRAGMATIC ASPECTS

The article actualizes the study of websites as a means to promoting cities around the world and highlights the main structural and semantic characteristics of advertising sites hosted on Internet platforms. The pragmatic role of a lexical unit of advertising texts is investigated. The concepts of website and advertising text are defined, the main ways of information transfer through advertising text were described. Definitions of the concepts such as advertising, advertising text, strategy, website, and related concepts are provided. After researching the selected advertising texts, the structural and semantic characteristics of advertising on websites, and the main ways of transmitting information, such as verb sentences, simple nominative sentences, and elliptical sentences are analyzed. The pragmatic means of advertising campaigns on websites includes constructions, such as Top + Numeral, Must + V., Let + Inf, and so on. Examples of pragmatic websites are also considered. Samples and purposes of using this approach are given. There are various strategies for advertising and promoting cities and countries around the world on Internet platforms. The most popular and effective are the use of different language techniques (motivational, interrogative, negative sentences) and the strategy of the association. The advertising text is noted to embody a communicative and pragmatic guideline. In the advertising message, there is a presentation of the goods to the target audience. Thus, the main load is the language code, which is aimed at a special category of people. A small number of works on this topic indicate the need for a more detailed study of the issue.

The paper examines the suggestive potential of political speeches of state leaders. The author argues that the greatest political addresses given at turning points in history demonstrate a programming effect and, consequently, are intended as texts with suggestive features. The current study proves that rhythm is the essential feature of a suggestive text. The rhythm is a complex phenomenon built on the balanced alternation or repetition of certain elements (formal and semantic). The distinctive rhythm for political address is established via lexical and, broader, semantic repetition of key verbal elements carrying dominant meanings which comprise two opposite functional textual groups via grammatical (morphological and syntactic) patterns or parallelism, accompanied by phonetic repetition. Such repetition serves the communicative-pragmatic purpose of the suggestor, namely, to consolidate the dominant meanings. The results of this study indicate that emotiogenic attributes (or qualifiers) aimed at emotional "charging" of the target audience are the primary means of suggestion. The texts of political speeches contain the elements of solemn rhetoric and pathetic appeal to the sacred forces. Political addresses of state leaders provide a strong impetus for creating meaningful public narratives favouring one or another political course of society. Furthermore, an informative political speech, which employs suggestive techniques, serves as a potent tool to exercise power over the target audience and as a means to shape public opinion and influence the mood in society. Finally, the political leader plays the role of an authoritative communicator who organizes, structures the individual's picture of the world, helps to resist communicative warfare and gives people a sense of order in a life of chaos.

The correct packaging of information as a prerequisite for successful technology transfer is discussed and it is stressed that research findings should be tailored and packaged in a format and language that is understandable and acceptable to the user. The transfer should be directed at a target audience and the principle in the transfer process is simplicity. The various packaging techniques are described and these include mass media techniques, publications, and more specific techniques like seminars, conferences, demonstrations, education, etc. The important role of personal contact in a technology transfer programme is also stressed. Terminology regarding technology and information transfer is briefly discussed. The availability of the relevant information and the important role of the technology transfer specialist are also briefly examined.

Abstract Terrorism is designed, as it has always been, to have profound psychological repercussions on a target audience and to undermine confidence in government and leadership. Nevertheless, after the 9/11 attacks, it is possible to claim that terrorism has changed and the European Union’s response, along with the world one, has also changed. By means of discursive analysis, this paper aims at exploring the complexity of the new threats that terrorism poses to the globalised world by combining 21st century technologies with the most extreme reading and vision of the clash of civilisation. The analysis will then proceed with an assessment of the change of approach that has guided EU action in the aftermath of 9/11 and with a critical examination of the issue of global actorness.

The article deals with the structural-semantic and functional-pragmatic features of the implementation of the basic general cultural concept “world” by means of precedent texts in the modern Russian advertising discourse. The purpose of the research is to identify the specifics of the implementation of the concept “world” by means of precedent texts in advertising texts. The article describes the concept of “world” and defines its role in the national language picture of the world of Russian people. The research highlights the main areas of precedent of the concept “world” in the modern Russian advertising discourse, determines the role of precedent texts in producing a pragmatic effect on the addressee of an advertising message. The article analyzes the transformations of case texts that represent the general cultural concept of “world” in modern advertising texts. The article considers the connection between the cognitive features of the concept “world” implemented in advertising discourse using case texts and the traditional paremiological and lexicographic descriptions of the concept in the language picture of the world of the Russian people. The conclusion is made about the high functional activity of the basic general cultural concept “world” in the modern Russian advertising discourse.

The paper is devoted to the role of the global financial market in the development of Russian big business. It proves that terms and standards posed by this market as well as opportunities it offers determine major changes in Russian big business in the last three years. The article examines why Russian companies go abroad to attract capital and provides data, which indicate the scope of this phenomenon. It stresses the effects of Russian big business’s interaction with the world capital market, including the modification of the principal subject of Russian big business from integrated business groups to companies and the changes in companies’ behavior: they gradually move away from the so-called Russian specifics and adopt global standards.

This paper analyzes the problem of technological backwardness of economy. In many mostly developing countries their economies use obsolete technologies. This can create the illusion that this or that business is prosperous. At the level of international competition, however, it is obvious that these types of firms do not have any chance for success. Retroeconomics as a theory of technological backwardness and its detrimental effect upon a country’s economy is considered in the paper. The role of the government is very important for overcoming the effects of retroeconomy. The phenomenon of retroeconomy is already quite deep-rooted throughout the world and it is essential to consolidate the attention of economists and politicians on this threat.
