The article is devoted to promising areas of research regulatory processes (self-control) оf the professionals working in special and extreme conditions of professional activity. The actuality of creation a comprehensive compact of the selection methods, adaptation the technologies to professional tasks, methods of psychological assistance of the specialists of hazardous occupations was shown. It was done an overview of foreign studies of the features of psychological regulation and self-control in stressful situations, neurophysiological correlates of self-control and aggressive behavior. The results of trainings of the development of the capacity for self-control, increasing resistance to the negative effects of mental exhaustion, were described. There were expounded the results of domestic investigations of the association between the self-regulation of behavior and profile of reactivity among mentally healthy and ill persons. The necessity of the development of psychodiagnostic and psychological programs for specialists in the professions of risk, aimed to improve the efficiency of regulatory processes for the adaptation

Relevance. Working in extreme conditions requires from psychologists involved in the implementation of measures for emergency rescue and other urgent work, not only to change the usual working conditions, but also to work effectively to provide emergency psychological assistance (EPA) to victims. At the same time, the motives for their participation in such events are very variable, and differ not only in content, but also in the degree of expression, since not all specialists are ready for such a format of professional activity.Intention: To study the degree of motivational readiness of psychologists to provide emergency psychological assistance to victims, as well as to identify the features of the motivational sphere that determine the participation of specialists in this type of professional activity.Methodology. We examined 117 psychologists using a questionnaire on the self-assessment of the motivational readiness of psychologists to provide emergency psychological assistance and the assessment of the leading motives that stimulate participation in this type of professional activity. Standardized psychodiagnostic techniques were also used: “Test of life orientations” (adaptation by D.A. Leontiev), questionnaire “Motivation for success and fear of failure” (A.A. Rean), questionnaire for study motivation to achieve success and motivation to avoid failure (T. Ehlers), questionnaire “Diagnosis of the motivational structure of the individual” (V.E. Milman). Results and Discussion. The results of the self-assessment questionnaire on the motivational readiness of psychologists to provide emergency psychological assistance showed that, in general, psychologists positively assess themselves according to this criterion (6.4 ± 2.2 out of 10 possible points). 46 % of psychologists have a high level of its formation, 36.5 % – average, 17.5 % of psychologists – low. The motivational readiness of psychologists has a 4-component structure and is made up of professional, hedonistic and emotional motives, and motives of recognition. The use of standardized psychodiagnostic methods demonstrated that motivational readiness to provide emergency psychological assistance is associated with the desire to achieve success, the idea of oneself as a strong person who has freedom of choice and independently controls the events of one’s own life, the desire for a high social status, the focus on creative activity and social utility.Conclusion. The studied features of motivational readiness of psychologists can be used for differentiated training of psychologists to provide emergency psychological assistance, and also taken into account for selecting specialists of this profile to work in extreme conditions.

The article addresses the problem of a current trend in foreign and domestic psychological science which is self-regulation among professionals working under extreme conditions. Self regulation in risk situations plays a crucial role in making decisions and choosing strategies of behavior under conditions of uncertainty, which is not only a rational process implemented by cognitive mechanisms but also an emotional process including people’s attitudes toward a situation. A set of extreme professions includes service of managers in the penitentiary service, which is associated with emotionally intense social activity and involves a constant presence of pronounced negative stressors. Studying the problem of self-regulation related to the interaction of managers with the socium of extreme nature focuses on answering the key question: What psychological and situational factors contribute to a sufficient level of self-regulation for successful activities under stress conditions? To analyze the system of self-regulation among managers in the penitentiary service we conducted a research using 6 standardized psychodiagnostic technique: Behaviour Self-Regulation Style (V. I. Morosanova, E. M. Konoz); Burnout Assessment, adapted by A. A. Rukavishnikov; Personal Aggressiveness and Propensity to Conflicts (E. P. Ilyin and P. A. Kovalev); Rapid Evaluation of Management Potential (N. P. Fetiskin, V. V. Kozlov, G. M. Manuylov); Evaluation of Communicative and Organizational Aptitudes (V. V. Sinyavsky and B. A. Fedorishin); Orientation Styles of Professional Communication (N. P. Fetiskin, V. V. Kozlov, G. M. Manuylov). The principal assumption in this research was that the structure of individual features of self-regulation (a self-regulation style) and its levels was determined by one’s personal characteristics and professional-environmental factors. The study objectives were: to identify the relationship between the level of self-regulation, overall mental state, and management potential in managers involved in extreme activity (working in the penitentiary service); to reveal psychological factors for optimization of managerial competencies under extreme conditions of professional activity; and to identify main difficulties and competence deficiencies for subsequent corrective and psychotherapeutic interventions. The research conducted enabled us: to study in details the peculiarities of self-regulation, overall mental state, and management potential among managers in the penitentiary system; and to determine which system components require intentional development in order to mitigate deficiencies and to increase the effectiveness of managers. Abstract For all its popularity as a psychological construct, willpower is irremediably polysemous. A more helpful construct is self-control, defined as the self-regulation of conflicting impulses. We show how the process model of self-control provides a principled framework for examining how undesirable impulses may be weakened and desirable impulses may be strengthened.

Purpose. Studying the level of development of certain professionally significant psychological qualities of future specialists in extreme professions, such as volitional self-regulation, propensity to take risks, motivation to achieve success or overcome failure. Methods. Carrying out an ascertaining experiment: psychological testing using the techniques: «Motivation of success and fear of failure» (questionnaire by A.A. Rean), «Research of the propensity to take risks» (questionnaire of A.G. Shmelev), «Level of volitional self-regulation» (questionnaire A.V. Zverkov and E.V. Eydman). Findings. The results of studying the level of development of volitional self-regulation, self-control and perseverance, motivational orientation and propensity to risk of the 1st and 3rd year students of the University of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus are presented. The conditions of professional activity of specialists in extreme professions are briefly considered. Strong-willed efforts for workers in extreme activities are necessary to overcome such external obstacles as difficulties in professional activities, various hindrances, confronting with other people or life circumstances. It can be concluded that the majority of respondents are characterized by a high level of volitional self-regulation, perseverance and self-control. The overwhelming majority of the first and third year students were diagnosed with pronounced motivation to achieve success. It has been found that almost all respondents participating in the study had an average level of propensity to take risks. Application field of research. The presented results can be used to work out a program for the development of professionally important psychological qualities, skills and abilities of extreme profile specialists aimed at forecasting the main conditions and regularities of their formation.

The present study aimed to identify the self-regulation level among university students, and disclose the predictive ability of self-regulation in their academic achievement. The sample of the study consisted of 312 students (177 male and 135 female) chosen from the Jadara University in Jordan by the available method. To achieve the study’s objectives, a self-regulation scale prepared by Mriyan (2010) after verifying its validity and reliability indices. The results indicated that the students have a medium degree of self-regulation on the scale as a whole and the sub-fields. The results of the study also showed there were statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) in the level of self-regulation on the scale as a whole and on the two fields: determining and setting goals and self-control due to gender in favor of females. However; there were no statistically significant differences in students' grades on the two fields' self-observation and selfreaction due to gender. Finally, study results indicated two fields of self-regulation predicted the students' academic achievement: the field of determining and setting goals, and the field of self-act reaction, where the expositor variance ratio for them in the academic achievement amounted to (0.186%). 


The article describes a research that aimed at deepening the understanding the personal experience organization. Individual experience is viewed from the standpoint of O. Laktionov's model, and it`s personal component is considered in detail. One of the parts of this component is the life-sense orientations, and the article analyzes the transformations of this phenomenon that took place from 2010 to 2017. The personal component of individual experience contains three aspects: the oneself interpretation, the others interpretation, and the world interpretation. The aspect of oneself interpreting as value contains self-esteem, self-regulation, and the self-concept; the aspect of others interpreting as compatible with the subject of experience - the self-concept and values; aspect of the world interpretation - the values ​​and life-sense orientations. The emphasis on the life-sense orientations within this article was made in view of the desire to find the most universal transformations of personal experience. In the course of the empirical study, a comparative analysis of the subjects studied by the life-sense orientations (the test of life-orientation of D. Leontiev) in 2010 and 2017 using the U-Mann-Whitney test. To maximize the consideration of factors that could potentially affect the characteristics of the personal experience organization, the analysis was conducted separately on a sample of students-psychologists and students-philologists. The total number of persons who participated in the study was 121 students of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv) and Donbass State Pedagogical University (Slovyansk). Socio-political change was recognized as one of the key determinants of the transformations under study. It was found that across the whole sample, compared to 2010, the level of expressiveness of meaningful life indicators, such as goal orientation, locus of control "I", locus of control of life, and overall meaningfulness of life, significantly decreased; at the same time, the level of result orientation was significantly increased. Psychological students are characterized by a significant decrease in goal orientation, locus of self control, locus of life control, and overall meaningfulness of life; as well as an increase in result orientation. Philological students are characterized by a significant decrease in the locus of control of life and the overall meaning of life.

As people age, they experience typical age-graded challenges and opportunities, for example, their own retirement, changes in their social networks, or a decline in health condition. The extent to which people successfully process, respond to, and act on these challenges and opportunities is highly important for their health, at the core of which the WHO sees the possibility of “doing what one has reason to value.” In this article, we posit that individuals can play an active role in determining whether they can, in response to these age-graded influences, continue doing what they have reason to value, and that they can do so by deploying the self-regulatory processes of goal setting (including re-engagement in new goals after disengaging from a previous goal), goal pursuit, and goal disengagement. We discuss the role of these self-regulatory processes in three important goal domains: work/retirement, interpersonal relationships, and health. Across these domains, we consider typical challenges and opportunities including the increased availability of daily time in old age, the long past that lies behind older adults, and their limited future time perspective. Finally, we derive open research questions that may be studied to better understand how the very old may self-regulate their response to age-graded influences.

Article about the state of experiencing the syndrome of «emotional burnout» in the non-standard mode of work of medical workers in the COVID-19 pandemic. The issue of the impact of many negative factors on the professional activity of doctors, in connection with the Declaration of an emergency situation in Kazakhstan, an outbreak of coronavirus infection, is being considered. In the treatment of coronavirus infection, external and internal psychological causes of burnout syndrome in medical workers were identified. It is characterized by manifestations of emotional burnout, which are manifested in professional communication with feelings of fatigue, emotions, weakness, indifference, and anxiety. The issues of reducing the psychological state of medical workers in the conditions of coronavirus, their stress resistance, high anxiety, emotional will, features of self-control and management were considered. In the context of a pandemic, it is proposed to provide psychological assistance to medical workers, and state support for their work is recommended.
