The COVID-19 pandemic is having a serious psychological impact on healthcare workers. There is an operational restructuring of medical institutions, the working conditions practically correspond to an emergency situation. Every day, medical workers receive a huge amount of new information in the form of orders, guidelines. This creates an additional load in the form of continuous "information noise". The problem of emotional burnout of doctors was acute even before the COVID-19 pandemic. According to numerous studies in different countries, almost half of doctors have high rates of emotional burnout, which is two times higher than those of the population employed in other areas of professional activity. The aim of the study is to review the theoretical and methodological foundations of the formation and development of emotional burnout in medical personnel during an increased epidemic threshold for a new coronavirus infection. The paper provides an analysis of literary sources devoted to the problem of burnout syndrome in medical workers presented in the Scientific electronic library eLibrary, as well as in the English-language textual database of medical and biological publications PubMed. The COVID-19 pandemic is associated with many reasons that can adversely affect the formation and development of emotional burnout in medical personnel during an increased epidemic threshold for a new coronavirus infection. The provoking factors of the burnout syndrome (professional burnout) are the organizational factor (high workload, lack and shortage of PPE, insufficient (at the first stage) accumulated knowledge about the new coronavirus infection COVID-19); feeling of safety, threat and risk of infection; social isolation.

Abstract: In May 2019, the WHO General Assembly approved the 11th version of the ICD, in which emotional burnout is designated as an independent condition due to professional activity. In March 2020, the world was declared a pandemic of CAVID-19, a disease that can be considered as an occupational disease when infecting medical workers in the workplace. Coronavirus in occupational medicine is considered as a new biological factor, the influence of which on all body systems is constantly being studied and updated with new data. Not only the biological aspect of the impact of SARS-CoV-2 is relevant for the health of medical workers, but also the impact on mental health of the situation caused by the pandemic.

Abstract The first case of 2019-nCoV pneumonia infection occurred in Wuhan, Hubei Province, South China Seafood Market in December 2019. As a group with a high probability of infection, health workers are faced with a certain degree of psychological challenges in the process of facing the epidemic. This study attempts to evaluate the impact of 2019-nCoV outbreak on the psychological state of Chinese health workers and to explore the influencing factors. During the period from 31 January 2020 to 4 February 2020, the ‘Questionnaire Star’ electronic questionnaire system was used to collect data. The 2019-nCoV impact questionnaire and The Impact of Event Scale (IES) were used to check the psychological status of health workers in China. A total of 442 valid data were collected in this study. Seventy-four (16.7%) male and 368 (83.3%) female individuals participated in this study. The average score of high arousal dimension was 5.15 (s.d. = 4.71), and the median score was 4.0 (IQR 2.0, 7.0). The average score of IES was 15.26 (s.d. = 11.23), and the median score was 13.5 (IQR 7.0, 21.0). Multiple regression analysis showed that there were critical statistical differences in high arousal scores among different gender groups (male 3.0 vs. female 5.0, P = 0.075). Whether being quarantined had significant statistical differences of IES scores (being quarantined 16.0 vs. not being quarantined 13.0, P = 0.021). The overall impact of the 2019-nCoV outbreak on health workers is at a mild level. Chinese health workers have good psychological coping ability in the face of public health emergencies.

The article analyzes the key approaches to the phenomenon of stress in the teacher's professional activity. The views of scientists on its nature, the factors that give rise to its appearance and deployment are presented. The concepts of "work stress", "organizational stress", "professional stress" are distinguished. Professional stress among teachers is viewed through the prism of an individual's individual response to the impact of a difficult situation (psychological approach). The teacher's reaction to the increased demands of the social environment for his activities is investigated (social approach). The psychological state of the teacher, determined by the powerful action of factors associated with the implementation of professional tasks (professionally oriented approach) is described. The importance of an integrated approach to the study of psychological characteristics of professional stress of teachers is emphasized. Currently, there is an acute lack of personal resources for the effective solution of current pedagogical problems, which leads to stress. The author has characterized the types of professional stress by the nature of the impact on the personality of the teacher and his/her activities. The factors determining the transformation of situational stress into chronic occupational stress have been determined. The features of informational, emotional and communicative stress in the teacher's professional activity are described. The types of stressors in pedagogical activity are highlighted. Particular attention is paid to objective and subjective stressors, in particular to interpersonal, mid-personal and motivational. General and special occupational stressors are described in detail. The differences from stressors that are controlled and not amenable to control in the conditions of pedagogical activity are determined. Attention is focused on the fact that professional stress among teachers can become a serious threat to the successful deployment of professional activity and lead to professional burnout. Cases in which professional stress becomes a stimulus prompting a teacher to develop and improve are identified.

Medical workers have become a most affected population group during the pandemic of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19). They were the first to start fighting against an unknown infection and at that stage their psychoemotional state determined not only correct evaluations of a situation but also relevant planning regarding control over it. Our research aim was to reveal risk groups among medical workers regarding developing emotional burnout syndrome and peculiarities of reacting to stress in an emergency epidemic situation. We applied our own author’s anonymous online poll available at Google platform to examine psychoemotional state of medical workers. The poll had a built-in “Scale of perceived stress-10” that included two sub-scales; one of them measured a subjectively perceived level of the situation strain and the other, the amounts of efforts made by medical workers to overcome it. The poll was performed in November–December 2020; overall, 638 medical workers took part in it. They were of different age and sex and had different positions and working experience. We established great variability in individual levels of overstrain as per the stress perception sub-scale (Ех < 0; Ех = –0.59) with more “low” than “high” values as per this sub-scale (Аs > 0; Аs = 5.66). Having analyzed variability of values as per the stress overcoming sub-scale, we revealed that they were homogenous (Ех > 0; Ех = 3.98) with prevailing “high” values (Аs < 0; Аs = –6.97). Medical workers with their working experience being shorter than 5 years turned out to be a risk group with the most destructive reactions to long-term affecting stress factors at work and at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from them, high mental risks were also detected for workers who treated patients with COVID-19 as well as those who had previously had the coronavirus infection. The research allowed obtaining actual data on psychoemotional state of medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and determining potential risk groups regarding developing emotional burnout syndrome. We substantiated the necessity to constantly provide psychological trainings for medical workers with their focus on peculiarities of their reacting during the first meeting with destabilizing factors and with further adjustment of educational programs provided for potential risk groups.

Among the surveyed women prevailed (157 women and 39 men), whose average age was (48.6 ± 2.8) years. Studies have shown that signs of emotional burnout syndrome (EBS) of varying severity were identified in 68.4 % of the surveyed. Only 31.6 % of the individuals did not find any signs of EBS. During the analysis of the EBS structure, it was found that the stage of stress was found in 30.6 % of the examined, the stage of resistance — in 20.4 % and the stage of depletion — in 17.3 %. The effectiveness of MemoProve in persons with EBS includes regression of asthenia (physical and mental), increased activity and motivation, as well as an improvement in the processes of concentration and working capacity, that is, it allows to eliminate manifestations of EBS.
