Introduction. In October of 2010, Serbian Association for Psycho-Oncology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Serbia and the National Health Insurance has launched the first national telephone line for free psychological counseling and support for oncology patients and their families. Objective. The aim of this study was to present results of the first national telephone helpline for psychological support for oncological patients and their families. Methods. The telephone line for the psychological help and support was available from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week and on holidays. A total of 12 previously educated psychologists were involved, with two on duty in the mornings and two in the afternoons. The basic work principles of the Line were anonymity for users (if they wished), free of charge service available to patients from all of Serbia, careful listening, emphatic reflection on anything communicated by users and adequate counselling. Results. Since the beginning of the project (October 2010 up to April 2011) we received a total of 2,748 calls from across Serbia. Almost half of these calls were repeated calls, as patients asked for continuous psychological counselling. Larger percent (63.9%) of women called, when compared to men (35.4%) who used the Line. Most (52.4%) conversations were categorized as ?psychological support and counseling,? and as continual psychological counseling work (21.1%). Conclusion. The large number of calls suggests that this kind of public, free service for psychosocial and psychological support to cancer patients is necessary in Serbia.

Evidence suggests that a high proportion of lesbians seek psychological counseling. This study represents an empirical investigation of the disproportionate use of mental health services by lesbians, focusing on the hypothesis that lesbians place a greater value on psychotherapy than do nonlesbian women. Participants (100 lesbians and 309 nonlesbian women, 97% Caucasian) completed Surgenor's revision of the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale. Results indicate that the lesbian group had a significantly more positive attitude toward seeking psychological counseling than did the nonlesbian sample, regardless of whether or not they had experienced psychological counseling.

An increase in a number of migrants intensifies the need for professional psychological support and counseling for the latter in order to facilitate their social-psychological adaptation. In order to organise the psychotherapeutic process effectively and provide quality services, it is necessary to pay special attention to clients’ expectations and perceptions of psychological help. Unfortunately, this issue is currently underrepresented in domestic psychological research. The success of the psychologist’s work largely depends on a clear understanding of the ethnicity, the uniqueness of each ethnic group and the appropriately chosen methods. This paper presents the results of a survey of counselling psychologists with experience of working with migrants from post Soviet countries as well as the results of a comparative analysis of the perceptions of the psychologist’s work with representatives of the dominant ethnic group and migrants. The study objective: explore perceptions of the work of a counselling psychologist among migrants and members of the dominant ethnic group. Respondents’ answers were processed using expert assessments. The study was participated by three groups: 20 psychologists (of the dominant ethnic group); 20 migrants, and 20 citizens of the Russian Federation without psychological education. The dominant attitude in the minds of many respondents is that psychotherapy is useless, ‘a person should cope on their own, telling a psychologist about their problems is a sign of weakness’. At the same time, most of the interviewees note that they (their families) have psychological problems, however, they are not prepared to work on solving them. It is worth highlighting the particular importance of psychological education and public enlightenment in order to develop a more adequate image of the psychologist and a clear understanding of the specifics of psychological counselling.

The phenomenon of family trouble is considered in its entirety, (in its open and hidden forms), including, in particular, both open and hidden social orphanhood. The specifics of the development of the "Image of Self", the emotional and motivational spheres of children and adolescents in situations of family troubles of various types are revealed. The dynamics of age indices of personal development during the transition from childhood to adolescence in the situation of family unhappiness has been studied. It has been established that the unfavorable family climate (emotional rejection of the child), which can cause distortions in the emotional sphere, the "Image of Self", communication with peers, is the key factor of deformation of the personal resource in childhood and adolescence. The main mechanism for the formation of deformations is the frustration of the child's basic need for acceptance and recognition.
