The article presents assessment results of red-and-white breed lines on milk productivity, live weight and intensity of milk yield. It was found that almost all the descendants of the bulls belonging to the lines of V.B. Ideal 1014315, M. Chieftain 95679, R. Sovering 198998, R. Citation 267150 are characterized by high milk yield. The only exception was the daughters of the bulls from R. Sovering 198998 line, who were inferior to their peers in milk yield by 225-250 kg (4.1-4.5%) during 305 - day lactation. There were no significant interline differences in the content of fat and protein in milk. It was found that positive results were obtained from crosses of V.B. Ideal × M. Chieftain (+204 kg of milk), M. Chieftain × V.B. Ideal (+300 kg), M. Chieftain × R. Sovering (+185 kg), R. Sovering × R. Sheilimar. Intraline selection on milk yield in all cases was ineffective. Assessment of servicing bulls of V.B. Ideal line showed that the improvers of the daughters’ milk yield are the bulls Kumir 1242 (+283 kg to their peers), Leonardo 218 (+244 kg), Jul 43 (+143 kg). Bulls Clemens 12700 (- 201 kg) and Furgon 1268 (- 679 kg) were recognized as deteriorating the milk yield. As for R. Sovering line, the bulls Service 101 (+403 kg) and Mills 284 (+263 kg) are the milk yield improvers, and the bull Berkut 3473 (+0.38%) improves fat content of milk of the daughters.

The characteristic of milk productivity of cows of Holstein and Simmental breeds in LLC “Sibirskaya Niva” in the Maslyaninsky district in the Novosibirsk region has been given. It has been revealed that under the natural and climatic environments of the Western Siberia, when creating favorable conditions for feeding and housing for cows of Holstein and Simmental breeds have sufficiently high milk productivity. It has been found that Holstein first-calf heifers surpassed their Simmental herdmates by 959 kg in milk yield for the first 305 days of lactation under the same conditions of housing and feeding, by 3,1 kg in daily milk yield, by 38,2 kg in milk fat yield, and by 28,3 kg in milk protein yield (P < 0,001). There were no statistically significant differences between animals of Holstein and Simmental breeds in terms of fat and protein content in milk, which amounted to 3,94 and 2,96 % in Holstein breed and 3,97 and 2,98 % in Simmental breed, respectively. Both breeds have shown high milk productivity during the first 3 lactations. Thus, the milk yield of Holstein cows for the first 3 lactation was 6475–9290 kg, Simmental cows it was 5516–7680 kg, fat content was 3,93–3,99 and 3,96–3,97 %, respectively. The protein content in the milk of cows of both breeds did not exceed 3,0 %. High variability has been found in milk yield, yield of milk fat and protein, the coefficient of milk content and duration of lactation, the lowest in the content of protein and fat in milk and live weight. The correlation coefficients between the fat and protein content in milk were generally positive, but did not exceed 0,28. Therefore, breeding in the herd of cows in LLC “Sibirskaya Niva” have to be conducted not only by fat content, but also by protein content in milk.

The paper presents results of assessing black-and-white bulls by the quality of the offspring with application of different methods. The evaluation of bulls was carried out with application of the “daughter-mother” method in the conditions of Volzhsky Research Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Land Reclamation. The valuation showed that the bulls Aist 7 and Muscat 8 increased milk yield of daughters, in comparison with mothers, by 951 and 486 kg, or by 26.7 and 12.9%. The rest of the servicing bulls reduced milk yield of the offspring by 46 - 1019 kg (1.1 - 24.7%). When assessing the bulls using the “daughterpeer” method, the highest milk productivity was shown by the descendants of Sazan 25 and Aist 7 of Vis Back Ideal line, which surpassed their peers in milk yield by 273 and 419 kg, or by 3.8 and 5.7%, respectively. The producers Snop 57 (his 17 daughters had average milk yield of 4224 kg for the first lactation with milk fat of 3.80%) and Muscat 8 (with an average milk yield of daughters of 4254 kg , milk fat - 3.83%) are also of significant value for the breeding work of this farm. According to the assessment results, the producer Aist 7 was assigned to the breeding category of A1 of milk yield improvers. Bulls Sazan 25 and Muscat 8 are also rated as daughters’ milk yield improvers and are categorized as A2 and A3. All bulls evaluated by comparing daughters to the breed standards are improvers of daughters’ milk yield (+ 454-1860 kg).

The materials of the long-term (2008–2018) research into the reproductive function of cattle of the black-and-white breed of Baikal type in Irkutsk region are presented. The influence of the age at the first insemination and live weight on cows’ milk productivity, lifelong productivity and productive longevity was studied. The experiment was conducted on the basis of materials from the breeder-farm for breeding cattle of Baikal type on the groups of cows of different ages: up to 14–20 months and older. Cows inseminated at 16 months (7917 kg) had the best milk yield in the first lactation. The largest milk yield was obtained from inseminated cows with live weight of 401-410 kg. Milk production of these heifers was 7902 kg in the first lactation, 8792 kg – in the second and 8710 kg – in the third. It was revealed that age of cows and their live weight at the first successful insemination had a positive effect on the lifelong productivity and productive longevity of cows. Cows whose age at the first successful insemination was 15 or 16 months had a longer duration of productive use (productive life span of animals was 2561–2558 days, respectively). The highest lifelong productivity (34379–34585 kg) was obtained from the cows of this group. The economic efficiency of lifelong milk production was determined depending on the age of the first insemination. The highest lifelong milk productivity was obtained from cows, which were first inseminated at the age of 15–16 months. The largest revenue from sales of additional products was also received from the cows of this group (366,058–370,480 roubles per head). The results obtained allow to develop effective methods for increasing reproductive capacity of cattle.

When production of milk in industrial volumes it is necessary to monitor all processes aff ecting its quantity and quality: animal feeding, breeding, mode and method of milking, herd reproduction, labour organization in the dairy complex, creating favorable conditions for cows that correspond to physiological characteristics. The dairy industry continues to impose higher and higher demands on milk, so in addition to improving the milk productivity of cows, we must not forget about the quality of the product. The issues of milk yield of cows, fat and protein, yield of milk fat and protein, somatic cells in milk of cows of Black-and-White breed for a number of lactations in terms of the dairy complex “Ryzhovo” have been considered in the article. It has been noted be researches that in the 1st and 2nd lactations milk yield of animals was 10 621 and 10 553 kg, respectively. The highest productivity of the cows has reached in the 3rd and 4th lactations 11 365 and 11 655 kg, respectively, after which, in the 5th lactation there was a decrease in milk yield to 10 592 kg. When considering fat content for diff erent lactations, positive dynamics up to the 4th lactation inclusive has been revealed. Thus, the fat content in milk for the 1st lactation was 3,61 %, for 2nd – 3,68 %, for 3rd – 3,93 % and 4th – 4,00 %. In the 5th lactation fat content decreased to 3,78 %. It has been found when calculating the yield of milk fat in experimental cows for lactation that up to the 4th lactation inclusive the indicator increases: for the 1st lactation received 383 kg of milk fat, 2nd – 388 kg, 3rd – 447 kg, 4th – 466 kg, and for the 5th lactation, the decrease in the index to 400 kg. At the same time the yield of milk fat for the 5th lactation exceeds the 1st and 2nd. The protein content in the milk of cows of diff erent ages during the fi rst four lactations increases from 3,18 to 3,43 %. Then, in the 5th lactation there is the decrease in protein content to 3,35 %, however, this fi gure is second only to the highest the 4th lactation. It has been established that before the 3rd lactation the number of somatic cells in milk increases, then in the 4th lactation this indicator decreases (151,25 thousand/cm3 ) and in the 5th lactation reaches a maximum (242,27 thousand/cm3).

Selection and breeding work, which is responsible for realization and further improvement of genetic potential of animals, has a significant role in solving problems of industry competitiveness of dairy sector. Increase of animal productivity due to better development of those body parts which impact on milk productivity directly or indirectly, and elimination of some defects in appearance, affecting on various economic useful traits of animals may be one of the breeding work directions. Considering the above mentioned, the aim of our research was to study dependence of milk productivity of Ukrainian Black-and-White Dairy cows on their body measurements during the period of their first lactation. The research was conducted at Ukrainian Black-and-White Dairy cows in "Milk rivers" LLC of Sokal district, Lviv region. Exterior of first-сalf heifers (measurements of withers height, the depth of the chest, chest width, chest girth for scapula, oblique body length (by stick), width in hips, girth of metacarpus) and evaluation of dairy cow productivity during the first, second, third and better lactation (milk yield, fat content in milk, the amount of milk fat) were carried out according to the data of zootechnical accounting (during last 30 years). It was revealed that the experimental first-calf heifers had proportional development of a body, a deep and voluminous chest. Withers height was 131,0, chest depth – 73,1, chest width – 45,2, chest girth for scapula – 192,7, oblique body length – 156,3, width in hips – 51,8 and girth of metacarpus – 18,6 cm. It should be noted that the animals on most of the evaluated measurements, slightly, but prevailed the target parameters for the desired type of Ukrainian Black-and-White dairy cattle (exception – chest width). Narrow chests of the first-calf heifers were inherited from Holstein bull-sires, which for the recent decades, have widely been used in domestic herds of cattle. The variability level of the investigated measurements of a body was low; it testifies the consolidation of the herd. According to the measurements it was within 3,11–9,79 %. It should be noted that measurements of chest width (9,79 %) and width in hips (8,11 %) were observed with the highest variability. The milk yields of the Ukrainian Black-and-White Dairy cows of the herd were 3728,2 kg during the first lactation, 3936,8 kg during the second, 4375,2 kg during the third and 4446,3 kg during the best, fat content in milk – 3,86; 3,80; 3,78 and 3,82 % respectively and the amount of milk fat – 143,8; 149,7; 165,5 and 169,8 kg. As a result of the research we found the dependence of milk productivity of the cows on their body measurements during the first lactation. The highest milk yield and the amount of milk fat were characterized for animals, which withers height was 130–132, the depth of the chest – 74–76, the width of the chest – 43–45, chest girth – 195–199, oblique body length – 155–159, width in hips – 55–57, girth of metacarpus – 18,1–19,0 cm during the first lactation. According to the abovementioned indicators of milk productivity, they exceeded animals of all other experimental groups, but this predominance was significant only in some cases. High significant relationships between exterior measurements of the first-calf heifers and their further milk production were revealed. The correlation coefficients between body measurements of first-calf heifers and milk yields, depending on measurement and lactation, were within 0,100-0,388, between body measurements and fat content in milk – within 0,145–0,347 and between body measurements and the amount of milk fat – within 0,132–0,388, and share of impact of measurements on these indicators of milk productivity – within 8,68–36,38; 10,80–28,42 and 8,83–34,96 % respectively.

Studies have revealed that despite the selection, the Holstein cows have a high genetic potential of milk production and in all lactations it is good in the specific conditions of the hot climate of Uzbekistan. The milk production level of German cows for the first lactation was 6511.2 kg of milk with a fat content of 3.84%, the Dutch — 6653.0 kg with fat content of 3.95%, and local breed — 6495.2 kg with a fat content of 3.95%. All mature cows retained high milk production, for III lactation and older it was 7112.5 kg and 3.90%, 7266.0 kg and 3.90%, 6847.5 kg and 3.94%, respectively. The yield of Dutch breeding cows was higher for 1 lactation by 141.80–157.8 kg, for III lactation and older by 153.5–418.5 kg, the yield of milk fat by 12.8–6.3 kg, respectively, of indicators peers of German and local selection. The cows of the studied selections combined well with high milk yield and fat content. The level of 4% milk for the studied lactation in all cows was quite high and testified to its good nutritional value. Holstein cows of different breeds are distinguished by a strong dairy type. For I lactation, for every 100 kg of live weight, 1,159.0–1265.5 kg of milk was produced, for III lactation and older - 1200.0–1308.6 kg. It is revealed that milk productivity depends on the level of live weight of cows. The increase in body weight of cows in all groups provides an increase in milk yield, milk fat yield, milk yield of 4% milk. Milk productivity is interrelated with the duration of the service period. In group I, cows with a service period of 91–100 days were more productive, in group II, 81–90 and in group III, up to 80 days. The use of Holstein cows for the production of milk is effective and ensures an increase in its production, the creation of highly productive dairy herds and the production of high-quality maintenance stock. Background and Aim: The market demand for the quality of milk and dairy products, in particular in terms of such indicators as fat content, the amount and composition of milk protein, etc., is growing. Thus, the need for the selection of dairy herds using genetic markers associated with qualitative traits of milk productivity is becoming urgent. This study aimed to determine the preferred and undesirable genotypes of the AluI polymorphism of the growth hormone gene and SnaBI polymorphism of the insulin-like growth factor-1 gene associated with milk productivity and quality indicators of the black-and-white breed. The genotypes of animals were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Materials and Methods: Samples of the black-and-white breed from Kazakhstan served as the research subjects. The polymorphism of the growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 genes was determined by PCR-RFLP. The relationship of bGH-AluI and bIGF-1-SnaBI polymorphisms with productivity was assessed (fat, protein, and milk yield for 305 days of lactation, live weight, somatic cells, and milk production coefficient) by analysis of variance using Statistica 6.0 software. Results: The black-and-white cows with the bGH-AluILV genotype had significantly higher milk yield in 305 days (3174.5±157.2 kg) than those with the bGH-AluILL (2940.0±152.6 kg) and bGH-AluIVV genotypes (2964.0±36.0; p<0.05). The milk fat content of cows with genotypes bGH-AluILV and bGH-AluILL (121.8±6.5 and 120.6±10.2, respectively) was significantly higher than those with bGH-AluIVV genotype (109.8±10.8; p<0.05). The black-and-white cows with the bGH-AluILV genotype (96.7±5.3) had significantly more milk protein than those with the bGH-AluILL (90.3±5.6) and bGH-AluIVV (86.9±4.6) genotypes (p<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the indicators of milk productivity of cows with different genotypes of bIGF-1-SnaBI polymorphism. Conclusion: The results showed that the bGH-AluILV genotype was preferred for the black-and-white breed. The study demonstrated that genotype determined the relevant qualities, while the conditions of feeding, maintenance, and industrial technology provided the manifestation of this genotype. Thus, cows of the same (Wis Burke Ideal) line, having common ancestors in close (IV–V) ranks but living in different farming conditions, had large differences in milk productivity level. The variation was 2046 kg or 67.6% of milk per lactation.

Dairy cattle breeding is a structure forming branch of agriculture. Increasing the intensity of productivity in the dairy cattle breeding requires improvement of animals, which can be achieved through selection and breeding work. Therefore, one of the most important tasks in dairy cattle breeding is constant work to improve the productive and breeding qualities of breeds, types, lines and crosses of the livestock. Further increase in the productivity of a herd of dairy cows depends largely on improving the genotype of animals, increasing the hereditary potential of dairy productivity of cows. This problem can be solved, first of all, both by intrabreed selection, and on the basis of interbreeding. The aim of the study was to study the productive features of various lines of Holstein cows. The research was conducted on animals in the farm of LLC "Yupiter" in the Bolkhov district of the Orel region. As a result of this study, it was found that the control group Wes Back Ideal 1013415 had the lowest indicators of live weight for all indicators except live weight at birth. Cows of the Wes Back Ideal 1013415 line surpass in milk productivity for 305 days of lactation the first-born cows of other lines by 57,606 and 409,888 kg. The highest indicators of milk and specific fat content coefficients for the first lactation were in cows of the control group of the Wes Back Ideal 1013415 line – 1841,145 and 60.006 kg, respectively.

The article presents the results of immunogenetic studies of Simmental cows both by herd and by individual genealogical lines. During the first survey of the herd, about 100 alleles were identified in the blood B-system, including 15 most common in the herd. Such alleles were compared to 71.0 % of animals, and remaining 28.4 % were of a different rare alleles. Immunogenetic monitoring made it possible to follow the movement of genetic information in generations, to control the gene pool of the herd and to change it in a targeted way. The second survey (after 10 years) showed that the total number of alleles in the herd decreased, but the most common alleles were already 86.7% of animals, the rest (13.3%) had rarely encountered alleles. The ratio and frequency of B - alleles in the main lines of the herd – Florian 374, Fasadnik 642 and Margel 2122-also changed, which is associated with an increase in their genetic similarity. So, if according to the results of the first survey, the index of genetic similarity between the lines of Florian 374 and Fasadnik 642 was equal to 63%, Florian 374 and Margel 2122-51%, Fasadnik 642 and Margel 2122-60%, now these indicators are 74, 61 and 78.5%, respectively. The best milk productivity is distinguished by animals of Florian 374 line, their average milk yield for 305 days of the first lactation is 3878 kg with 3.88 % fat content in milk. In animals of the Fasadnik 642 and Margel 2122 lines, these indicators are 3472 kg and 3.92 %, and 3331 kg and 3.91%, respectively. The maximum difference in milk yield between animals with different blood B-alleles was 994 kg, the fat content in milk was 0.34 %, and the live weight was 85 kg, with a high degree of reliability of these differences.

The article shows the state of Ukrainian Whiteheaded cattle, which includes distribution of cattle, the number of animals belonging to respective bloodlines, evaluation of young animals with live weight in the process of growing and milk production of cows during the first lactation. It reflects the historic development of the breed when it was colonism whiteheaded cattle, which turned into the original breed, undergone a significant expansion in livestock and increase of productivity, decreased in the number, was as basis for creation of Ukrainian Black-and-White dairy breed and now bred only in one breeding farm. Visual estimation of animal exterior showed good development of cows and calves and their belonging to the dairy type. In the vast majority the cows of the herd have a black suit, a white head with " glasses" around the eyes, white belly, udder, lower legs and brush of the tail. The youngsters aren’t consolidated by the exterior, and among them there are animals which are not typical for Ukrainian Whiteheaded breed. The young animals have some lag in live weight behind the breed standard [12] to 7 months’ age with exceeding of this trait in certain periods quite significantly in the future. It was established that selection of heifers on live weight will be effective at the early age (1-5 months), given the coefficient of variation of live weight – 22,63-30,21% and will not have a significant influence in the future. Milk yields of first-calf heifers vary considerably depending on the origin. The milk yield of first-calf heifers in the herd was 4238,5 kg on average, the heifers belonging to Mart 171 and Ozon 417 bloodlines had the best milk performance – 4483,1 and 4254,9 kg accordingly. The most aligned milk yield during the first lactation was in the cows belonging to Ozon 417 bloodline, the limits of the trait are 4128,5-4327,4 kg with the average value by the line 4254,9 kg. In contrast, the first-calf heifers of Ryezvyi 33 bloodline with average milk yield 4048,9 kg had limits of the trait 2199,3-4736,1 kg. Even greater range in cows’ milk yield during the first lactation R= 4939 kg (limits 1687 – 6626 kg) is characterized for the herd in general, it shows, on the one hand, the possibility of qualitative improvement of cows’ productivity due to selection on the investigated trait and lack of selection in the herd on the other hand. It was established that daughters of bull Chardash belonging to Ryezvyi 33 bloodline produced 4736,1 kg of milk for 305 days of the first lactation with fat content 3,6%, whereas Zlak’s descendants of the same line were characterized by the lowest milk yield for the first completed lactation – 2199,3 kg with fat content 3,7% and the average value by the line – 4048,9 kg of milk, fat content 3,6%. Similar variability of first-calf heifers’ milk yields, depending on the origin, is typical for other bloodlines of Ukrainian Whiteheaded breed. To increase milk productivity of Ukrainian Whiteheaded cows is recommended to repeat successful combinations of parental forms, and to preserve the breed – to carry out an objective assessment of animals by a range of traits, given the efficiency of selection of heifers on live weight at early age.
