The article presents the results of monitoring the rotor vibration occurring in gas-pumping units. An assessment of the effect of vibration loads on seal leakage has been carried out. The maximum amplitudes and frequencies of vibration of rotors of gas-pumping units under operating conditions have been determined. A dynamic model of a "dry" seal is proposed, in which axial, angular and bending vibrations of the seal rings are realized. The theoretical definition of the rotor vibration parameters admissible for the operation of "dry" compaction is carried out.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the prospects for the development of loading methods for gas turbines as well as to develop a mathematical model that adequately describes the real operating conditions of the loading system at various loads and rotation speeds. A comparative analysis of the most common methods and technical means of loading the shafts of a free turbine at gas turbine plants intended for operation as part of gas pumping units is presented. Based on the results of the analysis, the expediency of using the loading model “Free Power Turbine Rotor–Hydraulic Brake” as a load simulation is shown. Recommendations for the creation of an automation system for the load testing of power plants have been developed. Mathematical models and Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation models of power plants have been developed and tested. One of the most important factors that predetermine the effectiveness of the loading principle is the possibility of software implementation of the loading means using software control systems that provide the specified loading parameters of the gas turbine.

The article presents the results of an experimental study of "dry" seals in the presence of rotary vibration. The descrip-tion of the dynamic stand measurement system is given. An assessment of the influence of vibration loads on leakage through the seal and an analysis of the influence of radial displacement and shaft misalignment on the operation of a "dry" seal are carried out. The analysis of the cause of the vibration defect is presented. The permissible values of the vibration amplitudes of the rotor of the gas pumping unit have been determined.

The consideration of existing methods for a modal analysis has shown a possibility for the lowest frequency definition of bending vibrations in a coach car body in a vertical plane based on an indirect method reduced to the assessment of the bending stiffness of the one-dimensional model as a Bernoulli-Euler beam with fragment-constant parameters. The assessment mentioned can be obtained by means of the comparison of model deflections (rated) and a prototype (measured experimentally upon a natural body) with the use of the least-squares method that results in the necessity of the solution of the multi-dimensional problem with the reverse coefficient. The introduction of the hypothesis on ratability of real bending stiffness of the prototype and easily calculated geometrical stiffness of a model reduces a multi-dimensional problem incorrect according to Adamar to the simplest search of the extremum of one variable function. The procedure offered for the indirect assessment of bending stiffness was checked through the solution of model problems. The values obtained are offered to use for the assessment of the lowest frequency of bending vibrations with the aid of Ritz and Grammel methods. In case of rigid poles it results in formulae for frequencies into which there are included directly the experimental values of deflections.

An increasing interest is arising in developing miniaturized antennas in the microwave range. However, even when the adopted antennas dimensions are small compared with the wavelength, radiation performances have to be preserved to keep the system-operating conditions. For this purpose, magneto-dielectric materials are currently exploited as promising substrates, which allows us to reduce antenna dimensions by exploiting both relative permittivity and permeability. In this paper, we address generic antennas in resonant conditions and we develop a general theoretical approach, not based on simplified equivalent models, to establish topologies most suitable for exploiting high permeability and/or high-permittivity substrates, for miniaturization purposes. A novel definition of the region pertaining to the antenna near-field and of the associated field strength is proposed. It is then showed that radiation efficiency and bandwidth can be preserved only by a selected combinations of antenna topologies and substrate characteristics. Indeed, by the proposed independent approach, we confirm that non-dispersive magneto-dielectric materials with relative permeability greater than unit, can be efficiently adopted only by antennas that are mainly represented by equivalent magnetic sources. Conversely, if equivalent electric sources are involved, the antenna performances are significantly degraded. The theoretical results are validated by full-wave numerical simulations of reference topologies.

Inherent in the construction of many experimental apparatus designed to measure the hydro/aerodynamic forces of rotating machinery are features that contribute undesirable parasitic forces to the measured or test forces. Typically, these parasitic forces are due to seals, drive couplings, and hydraulic and/or inertial unbalance. To obtain accurate and sensitive measurement of the hydro/aerodynamic forces in these situations, it is necessary to subtract the parasitic forces from the test forces. In general, both the test forces and the parasitic forces will be dependent on the system operating conditions including the specific motion of the rotor. Therefore, to properly remove the parasitic forces the vibration orbits and operating conditions must be the same in tests for determining the hydro/aerodynamic forces and tests for determining the parasitic forces. This, in turn, necessitates a means by which the test rotor’s motion can be accurately controlled to an arbitrarily defined trajectory. Here in, an interrupt-driven multiple harmonic open-loop controller was developed and implemented on a laboratory centrifugal pump rotor supported in magnetic bearings (active load cells) for this purpose. This allowed the simultaneous control of subharmonic, synchronous, and superharmonic rotor vibration frequencies with each frequency independently forced to some user defined orbital path. The open-loop controller was implemented on a standard PC using commercially available analog input and output cards. All analog input and output functions, transformation of the position signals from the time domain to the frequency domain, and transformation of the open-loop control signals from the frequency domain to the time domain were performed in an interrupt service routine. Rotor vibration was attenuated to the noise floor, vibration amplitude ≈0.2 μm, or forced to a user specified orbital trajectory. Between the whirl frequencies of 14 and 2 times running speed, the orbit semi-major and semi-minor axis magnitudes were controlled to within 0.5% of the requested axis magnitudes. The ellipse angles and amplitude phase angles of the imposed orbits were within 0.3 deg and 1.0 deg, respectively, of their requested counterparts.

The volumetric efficiency is one of the most important aspects of system performance in the design of axial piston pumps. From the standpoint of engineering practices, the geometric complexities of the valve plate (VP) and its multiple interactions with pump dynamics pose difficult obstacles for optimization of the design. This research uses the significant concept of pressure carryover to develop the mathematical relationship between the geometry of the valve plate and the volumetric efficiency of the piston pump. For the first time, the resulting expression presents the theoretical considerations of the fluid operating conditions, the efficiency of axial piston pumps, and the valve plate designs. New terminology, such as discrepancy of pressure carryover (DPC) and carryover cross-porting (CoCp), is introduced to explain the fundamental principles. The important results derived from this study can provide clear recommendations for the definition of the geometries required to achieve an efficient design, especially for the valve plate timings. The theoretical results are validated by simulations and experiments conducted by testing multiple valve plates under various operating conditions.

Additive manufacturing (AM) of polymeric materials offers many benefits, from rapid prototyping to the production of end-use material parts. Powder bed fusion (PBF), more specifically selective laser sintering (SLS), is a very promising AM technology. However, up until now, most SLS research has been directed toward polyamide powders. In addition, only basic models have been put forward that are less directed to the identification of the most suited operating conditions in a sustainable production context. In the present combined experimental and theoretical study, the impacts of several SLS processing parameters (e.g., laser power, part bed temperature, and layer thickness) are investigated for a thermoplastic elastomer polyester by means of colorimetric, morphological, physical, and mechanical analysis of the printed parts. It is shown that an optimal SLS processing window exists in which the printed polyester material presents a higher density and better mechanical properties as well as a low yellowing index, specifically upon using a laser power of 17–20 W. It is further highlighted that the current models are not accurate enough at predicting the laser power at which thermal degradation occurs. Updated and more fundamental equations are therefore proposed, and guidelines are formulated to better assess the laser power for degradation and the maximal temperature achieved during sintering. This is performed by employing the reflection and absorbance of the laser light and taking into account the particle size distribution of the powder material.

The paper describes the process of initiating a project to improve the efficiency of gas turbine plants for driving centrifugal superchargers at compressor stations. The study shows the main trends of increasing the efficiency of gas turbine drives of gas pumping units, gives the constructive-functional appearance of the modern gas turbine drive of the gas pumping unit, and proposes a method for increasing its efficiency.

The study of the dynamic model of the conventional sucker rod pumping units requires first determining the variation on the cinematic cycle of the synthesis parameters (the reduced moment and the reduced mass moment of inertia) and then the variation of the angular speed of the cranks, in response to the dynamic and resistant actions on the component elements that appear during operation. The paper presents the way of determining the variation on the cinematic cycle of the synthesis parameters of the dynamic model corresponding to the conventional pumping unit mechanism and of the variation of the angular speed of its cranks. The experimental records have been processed with the Total Well Management program. The simulations have been performed with a computer program developed by the author using the Maple programming environment.
