Market size in many ways determines the national competitiveness of an economy. If there is a large national market, it is a source of demand for manufacturing companies. There are cases where the national economy has a large market and a weak industry, e.g. Russia, while on the other hand, Switzerland, which has a small market size, compensates that with productivity and exports to other markets. Market size and foreign trade complement each other in influencing the sustainability of national competitiveness. If there is a large market and insufficient industry to meet the demand in that market, it is necessary to import the products and satisfy the needs of the domestic market. However, the small national market and the production of a large quantity of products that it cannot absorb requires export to other markets. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the competitiveness of Serbia and countries in the region, and their indices of market sizes, which include, but are not limited to, foreign market percentages and exports. Certainly, both determinants significantly affect national competitiveness and its sustainability.

The main goal of the article is to present the Polish chicken market in 2012-2017 in the context of changes in foreign trade in chicken products. In order to achieve the goal, the methods of descriptive statistics (comparative analysis over time, structure analysis, linear trend function) were used. In the analyzed period, there is a tendency to increase the positive balance of trade in meat, offal and chicken preserves, while the balance of live poultry was negative. In the years 2012-2017, with a significant increase in the stock of chickens (except laying hens), there was over 58% increase in their slaughter, and the export of chicken products (live hens, meat, offal, preserves) increased more than twice. In export and consumption, chicken products dominate, followed by turkey products. The production of live chicken is very concentrated.

The aim of this study is to measure the competitiveness of Turkey by making a comparative analysis between the Turkish agricultural, industrial, and services sectors involved in foreign trade and the corresponding sectors of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) nations. In addition to the determination of their relative competitiveness, assessments will be made about their competitiveness over time by analyzing the direction of the sectoral trends of the above-mentioned countries. In the study, after a brief theoretical overview, a summary of the literature related to the subject is provided, followed by a comparison of the competitiveness of the three sectors (agriculture, industry, and services) made by calculating the revealed comparative advantages (RCAs) of Turkey and the BRIC countries.

Foreign trade plays important role in the economy of every country, especially in modern globalized world. This article deals with selected aspects of foreign trade in countries from central Europe, namely in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Germany, and Austria. Method of comparative analysis has been used in this article. Firstly, the article analyses the development of GDP (foreign trade is part of GDP formula in every open economy), where the most powerful economies are Germany and Austria. Secondly, overall development of trade with goods and services in all selected countries has been analysed. Surprisingly, the only country with deficit in case of services is Germany. Thirdly, the article focuses on development in two countries, namely of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The openness of these two countries is compared, but most of all, the export and import of these two countries in relation with other analysed countries. Relatively surprising result is that for both countries is the most important business partner Germany, but there are some differences. Detail results are described in the article.
