Objective evaluation of commercial spicy pollock roes was conducted. Ovary weight, ovary length, ovary membrane thickness, egg diameter, pH, color parameters, chemical composition, mechanical properties and protein composition were included in the evaluation items. The measurements of size, pH, color parameters, chemical composition and free amino acid may be not suitable for assessing the quality of commercial spicy pollock roe in the current industry, as they do not differ much between high-priced and low-priced products. However, we found that most of products showed significant differences in ovary hardness between them. Therefore, we propose the measurements of mechanical properties such as ovary hardness as objective quality assessing methods. Keywords: Alaska pollock roe ,Chemical composition, Ovary hardness

Down jacket fabric is greatly important in determining the quality of a down jacket. In order to enrich the research on fabric handle, subjective and objective evaluations were made for down jacket fabrics that were less studied. The comprehensive handle evaluation system for fabrics and yarns (CHES-FY) can be used to evaluate the tactile handle of the fabric by accurately and efficiently measuring the basic mechanical properties of the fabric. Therefore, the CHES-FY was used to link the objective evaluation with the subjective handle, so as to effectively estimate the total handle value of the down jacket fabric. Fifty-two kinds of down jacket fabrics were objectively tested through measuring 17 extracted parameters, and principal component analysis was adopted to establish the five main handle characteristics of fullness, softness, stiffness, smoothness, looseness and tightness to characterize basic style of the down jacket fabrics. The results showed that the subjective and objective results were in good agreement. These characteristics can be used as indicators to characterize fabric performance, and the principal component expression to characterize fabric handle can better predict the handle characteristics of down jacket fabrics. This also proves that the CHES-FY can quickly and accurately obtain the fabric handle value, and can also evaluate the fabric quality level.

Quality of machine production is very close-knit with quality of metallurgical semi-products and with improvement their working properties. It can be achieved first of all by decrease of sulphur and non-metallic inclusions content in metal. Improvement of working properties provide remelted processes above an electro slag remelting (ESR). The slags play very important role by ESR process. By experiments steel with next chemical composition was used: C (0,9 – 1,1%), Mn (0,30 – 0,50%), Si (0,15 – 0,35%), Cr (1,30 – 1,65%), Ni (max.0,30%), Cu (max.0,25%), P (max.0,027%), S (max.0,030%). The steel was remelted under 8 types of slags on the base of CaO, Al2O3, CaF2 and SiO2 in different ratios. The contribution deals with influence of chemical composition of slag on mechanical properties and cleannes of metal after electro slag remelting. Variation of slag chemical composition enables to change chemical composition of remelted steel, to reduce the non-metallic inclusions and sulphur content and to improve the mechanical properties of steel.

Methods for evaluating the quality of watermarked objects are detailed in this chapter. It will provide an overview of subjective and objective methods usable in order to judge the influence of watermark embedding on the quality of audio tracks. The problem associated with the quality evaluation of watermarked audio data will be presented. This is followed by a presentation of subjective evaluation standards used in testing the transparency of marked audio tracks as well as the evaluation of marked items with intermediate quality. Since subjective listening tests are expensive and dependent on many not easily controllable parameters, objective quality measurement methods are discussed in section Objective Evaluation Standards. Section Implementation of a Quality Evaluation presents the whole process of testing the quality taking into account the methods discussed in this chapter. Special emphasis is devoted to a detailed description of the test setup, item selection and the practical limitations. The last section summarizes the chapter.

The mechanical properties of bone are fundamental to the ability of our skeletons to support movement and to provide protection to our vital organs. As such, deterioration in mechanical behavior with aging and/or diseases such as osteoporosis and diabetes can have profound consequences for individuals’ quality of life. This article reviews current knowledge of the basic mechanical behavior of bone at length scales ranging from hundreds of nanometers to tens of centimeters. We present the basic tenets of bone mechanics and connect them to some of the arcs of research that have brought the field to recent advances. We also discuss cortical bone, trabecular bone, and whole bones, as well as multiple aspects of material behavior, including elasticity, yield, fracture, fatigue, and damage. We describe the roles of bone quantity (e.g., density, porosity) and bone quality (e.g., cross-linking, protein composition), along with several avenues of future research.

The aim of this article is to diagnose and evaluate selected aspects of the objective quality of life in rural gminas of Świętokrzyskie voivodship. An attempt was made to determine spatial differences in the quality of life in 2010 and 2015, using the taxonomic method and cluster analysis. The subject of the survey were rural gminas, where the quality of life analysis is carried out much less frequently than in the case of urban gminas, whereas these units are characterised by significant disproportions in the quality of life within the voivodship. In rural gminas of Świętokrzyskie voivodship the quality of life is improving, however, there are significant disproportions in the objective evaluation of the quality of life.

Abstract. The main aim of this paper is to assess the quality of newly produced, alloyed flux-cored wire with increased thickness of the steel cover compared to traditional according to AWS A5.29 standard, alloyed with Ni and Mo, and designed for welding of fine-grained HSLA steel. Flux-cored wire was produced on a pilot production line that allows calibration of steel band of higher thickness and production of flux-cored wire. Quality assessment of the alloyed flux-cored wire was based on the analysis of the results of tests of mechanical properties and microstructure mainly of the weld metal. Variation of chemical composition and microstructure were analyzed along weld metal (for each welding pass) and heat affected zone (HAZ) using SEM and EDS. Based on the results of the quality assessment of flux-cored wire, the conclusions about the feasibility of industrial application of selected metallurgical grade of flux-cored wire designed for welding of fine-grain HSLA steel were presented.

BACKGROUND: Remotely guided ultrasound (US) examinations carried out by nonmedical personnel (novices) have been shown to produce clinically useful examinations, at least in small pilot studies. Comparison of the quality of such exams to those carried out by trained medical professionals is lacking in the literature. This study compared the objective quality and clinical utility of cardiac and pulmonary US examinations carried out by novices and trained physicians.METHODS: Cardiac and pulmonary US examinations were carried out by novices under remote guidance by an US expert and independently by US trained physicians. Exams were blindly evaluated by US experts for both a task-based objective score as well as a subjective assessment of clinical utility.RESULTS: Participating in the study were 16 novices and 9 physicians. Novices took longer to complete the US exams (median 641.5 s vs. 256 s). For the objective component, novices scored higher in exams evaluating for pneumothorax (100% vs. 87.5%). For the subjective component, novices more often obtained clinically useful exams in the assessment of cardiac regional wall motion abnormalities (56.3% vs. 11.1%). No other comparisons yielded statistically significant differences between the two groups. Both groups had generally higher scores for pulmonary examinations compared to cardiac. There was variability in the quality of exams carried out by novices depending on their expert guide.CONCLUSION: Remotely guided novices are able to carry out cardiac and pulmonary US examinations with similar, if not better, technical proficiency and clinical utility as US trained physicians, though they take longer to do so.Dufurrena Q, Ullah KI, Taub E, Leszczuk C, Ahmad S.
