The present study investigated the relationship between writing anxiety with gender, writing self-efficacy and writing achievement, since this issue is quite common in foreign language classrooms and usually has a negative effect on students’ writing performance. The participants were 21 intermediate level students at a state university in Turkey. An independent samples t-test found no significant difference between the writing anxiety levels of males and females. A statistically significant negative correlation between writing anxiety and writing self-efficacy levels of the students was found in the correlation analysis. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) found a significant difference among three achievement groups regarding their writing anxiety levels. Lastly, the results of the two-way ANOVA indicated a main effect of writing anxiety on students’ actual written competence/skills but there was no main effect of gender. Moreover, the interactional effect of gender and writing anxiety was not statistically significant. These results indicate that although there is no relationship between students' gender and their writing anxiety level, students' writing achievement and writing self-efficacy have an effect on their writing anxiety level. This study also calls for more student-centred and process-oriented approaches in language classrooms.   Keywords: Writing anxiety; gender; writing self-efficacy; writing achievement

Background: Surgery is one of medical interventions which can cause fear, anxiety, and stressed because of its effects toward the integrity of body and soul. Nurses have significant roles in any preoperative care which is helping patients to decrease preoperative anxiety by using complementary therapy. The use of music therapy as one of the complementary therapies is not common in Indonesia. Therefore, scientific studies to prove the role of this therapy to decrease the level of anxiety of pre-operative patients is needed. Objective: To investigate the effects of music therapy in reducing anxiety levels of preoperative patients. Methods: A quasy experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with control group was applied to 50 respondents from medical ward in Panembahan Senopati Hospital of Yogyakarta who met the inclusion criteria.Dara were then analyzed by using t-test statistical analysis. Results: The control group showed the increased value of anxiety level of0.8 without music intervention (t= - 1503, df = 24, p<.05), whereas the intervention group showed the decreased value of anxiety level of -5.52 (t=5.081, df=24, p<.05). Meanwhile the independent t-test results for both groups showed a significant difference between group (t= 3,373, df=48, p<.05). Conclusion: Music therapy has significant effect in reducing preoperative anxiety levels of patients. Keywords: anxiety, preoperative, music therapy

<b><i>Background and Aim:</i></b> Although anyone can be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it may cause additional concern for people with chronic conditions. Epilepsy is the most common neurological disease in childhood and adolescence. The aim of this study was to determine anxiety levels among the mothers of children under follow-up for epilepsy in our clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> The study group consisted of the mothers of epilepsy patients who were under follow-up in the pediatric neurology outpatient clinic of the tertiary care center and were scheduled for a routine examination during the COVID-19 pandemic. The mothers’ anxiety levels according to the Beck Anxiety Inventory and their opinions about COVID-19 in relation to their child were assessed and compared based on whether the mother/patient attended their appointments in person and whether the child had frequent or infrequent seizures. <b><i>Results:</i></b> There was no statistically significant difference in anxiety level between the mothers of 64 children with epilepsy who attended their appointment during the pandemic and those of the mothers of 52 who did not attend their appointment. However, the mothers of children with frequent seizures had significantly higher anxiety levels. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Anxiety level of mothers whose children have frequent seizures was significantly higher compared to mothers whose children have infrequent seizures. It is important to be aware about this point and using telemedicine approach in suitable population and postpone routine outpatient follow-up appointments as much as possible.

Abstract—Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) promotes learners to be more confident and self-directed in addition to enhancing their knowledge and general information throughout the peers’ and teacher’s electronic feedback (E-feedback). This study was carried out with 28 Master EFL/ESL students who registered in the elective course of Computer Application in ESOL. To examine the influence of peers’ and teacher’s electronic feedback on ESL writing anxiety level as well as their writing performance, Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) and semi-structured Interviews were employed. The major finding from the Paired T-Test which were performed on the pre-post of (SLWAI) revealed that a significant difference between them (p<.009) that reflected respondents’ tendency to decrease their writing anxiety level after using peers’ and teacher’s e-feedback. Moreover, data collected from the interviews reported that the respondents perceived the e-feedback from peers and teacher as an important way to improve their writing performance.

This study was used to assess the premise that lower resting heart rates should be associated with higher scores on self-efficacy for exercisers. A total of 64 participants, 29 men and 35 women ranging in age from 18 to 38 years old ( M = 23.22, SD = 4.19), currently participating in an exercise program at a fitness center, were assessed using the Exercise Specific Self-efficacy Scale to measure general individual self-efficacy, along with obtaining resting heart rates. Participants were separated into three different groups based on individual resting heart-rate values. Results for a 2 (sex) by 3 (heart rate) two-way analysis of variance indicated a significant difference in self-efficacy scores ( F2.58 = 3.24, p<.05) among the three groups. No interaction or main effect for sex was found.

The study aimed to determine the relationship between writing anxiety and writing self-efficacy of students learning Turkish as a foreign language. The study sample consisted of 247 international students at B1 and B2 levels at the Turkish Education Application and Research Center of a foundation university. The Writing Anxiety Scale for Learners of Turkish as a Foreign Language, developed by Şen and Boylu (2017), was used to determine students&rsquo; writing anxiety. There were 13 items and two factors on the scale: Action-Oriented Anxiety and Environmental Oriented Anxiety. The Writing Self-Efficacy Scale for Turkish Students who Learn Turkish was developed by B&uuml;y&uuml;kikiz (2012) to determine the students&rsquo; writing self-efficacy. This two-factor scale had 16 items and explained 56.85% of the variance. The research was designed based on the relational screening model. SPSS 21.0 package programs were used to analyze the data. The study results indicated a significant positive relationship between writing anxiety and writing self-efficacy of students who learned Turkish as a foreign language. Besides, there was no significant difference between the Turkish learners&rsquo; scores from the writing anxiety scale and their language level.

This study compared the exergame beach volleyball’s acute effects on state anxiety level in single vs. multiplayer mode in adult men. Sixty adult men (age: 21.98 [4.58] years, body mass: 75.40 [15.70] kg, height: 1.77 [0.09] m, and body mass index: 24.19 [5.44] kg/m2; data are expressed as median [interquartile range]) were assigned to play exergame of beach volleyball in single- or multiplayer mode for approximately 30 min using the Xbox 360 Kinect®. The state anxiety level was evaluated before and after the intervention. There was no significant difference in the state anxiety levels after an exergame session between the single and multiplayer modes (p-value = 0.407, effect size (rB) = −0.12, defined as small). Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the state anxiety levels before and after an exergame session in single-player mode (p-value = 0.516, effect size (d) = 0.14, defined as trivial) and multiplayer mode (p-value = 0.053, rB = 0.43, defined as medium). In conclusion, state anxiety level after exergame beach volleyball did not differ between the single and multiplayer modes in adult men.

<p><em>The general self-efficacy scale and test anxiety scale are utilized for the questionnaire survey among 188 normal university students. The relationship between their general self-efficacy and test anxiety, the difference of general self-efficacy in gender and major, and difference of test anxiety in gender and major are discussed. The results indicate that there is a significant negative correlation between general self-efficacy and test anxiety of normal college students; there is a significant difference in gender and major for general self-efficacy; there is no significant difference in gender but in major for test anxiety.</em></p>

Objective: This study was planned to assess the depression and anxiety level in individuals with Chronic Heart Failure (CHF). Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted in a training and research hospital in Istanbul. The population of the study consisted of patients with CHF who stayed in the cardiology and internal medicine clinics between the months of March and June 2017. One hundred consecutive patients of CHF were included in the study. The "Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale" (HAD) was used to assess the anxiety and depression level of the patients and other demographic and exploratory variables data was collected on a questionnaire. Results: The anxiety and depression was found in 62% and 84%, CHF patients respectively. The anxiety levels were found to be high in the individuals with no social insurance, females, primary school graduates and housewives. Also, the depression levels of the cases whose duration of disease was longer were found to be high. The anxiety levels were found to be high in the individuals with DM, with NYHA class 3-4, using diuretic and performing salt restrictions. There was no statistically significant difference between both subscales in patients with hypertension, using beta blockers or anticoagulants, and exercising. Conclusion: In our study both anxiety and depression are found to be common in patients with CHF.

ABSTRACTThis research was aimed to find out whether there is a correlation between students’ anxiety level and oral presentation’s performance in EFL speaking class. The population of this research was the 4th semester students in English Education Study Program of Bengkulu University class A, B and C with 51 students randomly chosen as the sample. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative with questionnaire and presentation test as the instruments. The questionnaire of this research was FLCAS (Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scales) by Horwitz (1986) meanwhile the presentation test was a presentation test rubric evaluated by two raters in order to find the reliability of the test. The result of this research showed that there was a significant negative correlation between students’ anxiety level and oral presentation test score from rater 1 and rater 2. Based on the result, the strength of this correlation was moderate. On the other hand, both of the results were in negative directions. The finding also showed that most of the students had “Mildly Anxious” level of anxiety and “Basic” category from presentation test score. It can be concluded that anxiety can influenced the students’ speaking skill especially while performing a presentation in front of the class. Some factors as like fear of making mistakes, being seen by a lot of people, or being interrupted by the lecturers can increase the students’ anxiety. Objective: To evaluate the anxiety level of parents accompanying their children for the dental treatment. Materials & Method: Dental Anxiety Scale-Revised (DAS-R) questionnaire was filled by 101 subjects (53 females and 48 males) visiting the dental department for their children’s dental treatment. Result: 62.4 % parents accompanying their children had no or low anxiety levels and 9.9% and 5.9% showed high to severe anxiety levels respectively. There was no statistical significant difference seen between the anxiety levels in male and female parents. Conclusion: 37.6 % parents accompanying their children to the dentist showed moderate to severe anxiety levels with no significant difference seen in the overall anxiety levels of mothers and fathers.
