Many language teachers, especially Arabic, ignore the skill of listening lesson. With this research, can be known how far the effectiveness of MP3 usage in learning listening skills of Arabic language, to distinguish the sound of that language. By using the media players 3 (MP3), the researcher can carry out learning listening skill with a nice and fun with the evidence of the students who are more enthusiastic when following the lesson. This medium can only be effective for advanced students with 6% increase in outcomes, but for notice students who have the ability to think slowly it will be ineffective, as evidenced by a decline in value of -6,5%. It is due to the lack of students ability to listen to the voice of native speakers who tend to be fast, and also the dialect used by native speakers is different from the dialect they use every day.

Dar al-Lughah Wa Dirasat al-Islamiyyah Pamekasan Islamic boarding school is an Arabic language development institutions which applies phonetics learning to students at the first grade. Phonetic learning is important in learning Arabic especially for listening skill. Arabic phonetics and listening skill are an inseparable unity. The results of observations, interviews, questionnaires and document examination through descriptive qualitative methods show that the use of synthetic-analtical method is very suitable for phonetics subject learning among first graders of Dar al-Lughah. Moreover, several media are used. One of with is schematic drawing of the face (rasm al-takhthithi li al-wajhi). However, some problems arise in the process of phonetics learning, including:1) First graders are not accustomed to recite any sounds of Arabic letters, words or sentences in good and right pronounciation.2) First graders find it difficult to harden the tongue in pronouncing some specific sounds of Arabic letters, especially those which do not exist in Indonesian language, 3) Most of first graders come from schools where they were not used to listen to Arabic letter pronunciation from native speakers.

Total Physical Response (TPR) is built around the coordination of speech and actions. Action songs promote dance or acts while singing. In this study, we look at action songs as part of TPR to investigate its effectiveness in enhancing students’ listening skills to develop their mastery of the English Language. Seven Year 4 students from a Low Enrolment (SKM) Tamil Vernacular Primary school type (SJKT) were selected as the participants of a within-group experimental design. Upon completing a pre-test on listening skill, students were given six treatment lessons, whereby one hour per lesson was allocated. The treatment was conducted once a week, for every listening lesson. The data was collected while and after the pupils were taught through a series of lessons or interventions that incorporated songs and TPR to complete a variety of listening tasks. The finding shows that even though action songs and TPR are not commonly used among English Language teachers, teachers should implement the method especially for students from Low Enrolment Vernacular Primary School Type as the students in this study showed a significant increase in their post intervention scores of the listening test. The findings also discusses SJKT English Language teachers perceptions on the use of songs and TPR and suggests that there is still a lack of understanding among the teachers on the potential benefits of action songs and TPR for their particular students who have high levels of anxiety and inhibitions to learning English.

While improving listening comprehension skills has been one of the most difficult areas for language teachers and learners, shadowing has been playing a sensational role in improving learners’ listening skills in Japan in recent years. Most studies reported the effectiveness of short-term shadowing training in terms of learners’ listening skill improvement. However, how teachers can improve the skills effectively has not been fully examined. In order to explore a more effective procedure for teaching through shadowing, this study examined the shadowing procedure as a method of teaching listening. The research question was to determine whether the use of a combination of two levels of materials for shadowing improves learners’ listening comprehension skills better than materials of similar difficulty levels. The results show that a combination of the two different difficulties of materials improves learners’ listening comprehension skills more than offering materials at only one level of difficulty.
