ABSTRACT The intensification of catfish culture requires a regular and sustainable good seeds quality. Microbial-based aquaculture with probiotic application is expected to improve the reproductive performance of catfish. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performance of catfish given probiotics Bacillus sp. NP5 with different concentrations through feed. This study used a Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with the administration of probiotic Bacillus sp. NP5 at 2% concentration of 108 CFU/mL and 1010 CFU/mL in feed given and control (without probiotics), then repeated four times. Catfish broodstocks with an average size of 955 ± 261.27 g were kept in a net sized 1 m×1 m×1 m with seven broodstocks per net. Parameters observed included the Gonadosomatic Index (GSI), fecundity, number of matured eggs, frequency distribution of egg diameter, fertilization rate, and hatching rate. The result showed that the GSI value of female catfish broodstock was significantly different in sixth week as the highest value was obtained from 1010 CFU/mL probiotics with 5.19%. Moreover, the fecundity of all treatments showed significantly different results (P<0.05) as the highest value was on the concentration of 1010 CFU/mL Bacillus sp. NP5 with 137,123 ± 32,635 eggs/broodstock. This study concludes that the administration of probiotics Bacillus sp. NP5 with 1010 CFU/mL in feed given to catfish broodstock increases the fecundity (137,123 eggs/broodstock), GSI (5.19%), number of matured eggs percentage (64.50%), and hatching rate (82.53%).  Keywords: Bacillus sp. Pinus nigra is one of the most widely used tree species for reforestation within its geographical distribution, as well as being a potential substitute for other tree species in Central Europe under future climate scenarios. P. nigra is transplanted into the field as two-year or three-year old seedlings because of its relatively low growth rate in the nursery. This study investigated the effects of fertilization programs and shading on P. nigra seedlings, aiming to accelerate early growth, and thus to reduce the nursery rearing time. The experiment (a completely randomized block design) was conducted in an open-air nursery by sowing seeds from Grevena, Northern Greece, in Quick pots filled with peat and perlite in a 2:1 ratio. The seedlings were subjected to two levels of fertilization—5 and 10 g L−1 NPK (30-10-10)—and two shading levels: 50% and 70%. At the ends of the first and second nursery growing season, we recorded the seedlings’ above- and below-ground morphology and biomass data. The results show that the application of all of the treatments produced seedlings which met the targeted quality standards for outplanting. However, the combination of a high fertilization rate and low shading level resulted in seedlings of a higher morphological quality, which is often considered to be an indicator for a successful seedling establishment in the field.

The present study was aimed at evaluating the reproductive performance of the broodstock of purple mangrove crab (Scylla tranquebarica) fed natural food and formulated diets supplemented with astaxanthin and/or DHA. Formulated diets were supplemented with 500 mg kg-1 of astaxanthin (FA), 10 g kg-1 of DHA (FD) and both astaxanthin and DHA (FA+D). Diet without astaxanthin and DHA (FCon) and natural food (NF) consisted of forage fish (Valamugil sp.), shrimp (Penaeid sp.) and mangrove clam (Polymesoda sp.) to serve as control. Female broodstock of initial body weight 129.07±17.03 g were stocked in HDPE tank and cultured under recirculating water system. Broodstock maturation was monitored until spawning. Reproductive performance of female and condition of the larvae were also evaluated. After 50 weeks, broodstock fed FA+D diet showed better maturation percentage, spawning rate, gonadosomatic index, oocytes diameter, molting, molt death syndrome and survival rate than FCon group (P0.05) to the FA+D group but diet FD resulted in better performance than FA. Broodstock fed FA+D diet had the highest hatching rate, number of larvae produced and significantly higher zoea II survival compared to FCon and NF groups (P

An experiment was designed to study the effects of curcumin and thyroxine hormone supplementation in the diet to improve the reproductive performance of catfish broodstock by improving egg quality that eventually increases the production of seedlings. Catfish used in this experiment were supplemented with curcumin and thyroxine hormone through their feeds for 12 weeks. The results showed that there was no significant difference (p > 0.05) in the hepatosomatic index (HSI), gonadosomatic index (GSI), percentage of gonad maturity, total cholesterol concentration in the spawned eggs, high density lipoprotein (HDL) concentration in the spawned eggs, fertilization rate of spawned eggs, and hatching rate of fertilized eggs.  However, there were significant differences (p < 0.05) in the concentration of vitellogenin in the spawned eggs, egg diameter of the spawned eggs, and the triglycerides contents of spawned eggs. It was concluded that curcumin and thyroxine supplementations of African catfish increased vitellogenin concentrations and diameters of spawned eggs that have great potential to improve the reproductive performance.

Development of the population and the increasing demand for health services has led to the increase in the number of hospitals, both government hospital and privet hospitals. The presence of ammonia as a result of protein decomposition can be toxic in the waters. The application of anoxic-oxic biofilter system is an attempt to be able to reduce ammonia levels in hospital wastewater. In the process of anoxic-oxic biofilter, contact occurs between the gravel media and microorganism to form biofilms which can accelerate the degradation of organic matter and the nitrification process. This study aims to obtain the best activated sludge source in reducing ammonia levels of wastewater applied to the anoxic-oxic biofilter system applied. This research was contucted in two stages in which the first stage of active mud nursery was carried out from three sources, namely WWTP Wangaya Hospital Denpasar, WWTP of PTN Hospital Udayana University and WWTP of Bangli Hospital for six days. At this stage a Mixed Liquor Volatile Suspended Solid (MLVSS) value is measured which shows the growth rate of biomass in activated sludge. The second stage is applivation of avtivated sludge and control to the anoxic-oxic biofilter system to reduce ammonia levels in hospital wastewater for five days of processing. This study use a randomized block design with four treatments and three replication. The results showed that the best activated sludge was obtained through nursery from WWTP of Wangaya Denpasar Hospital which was shown by the highest biomass growth (MLVSS Value) of 2433.3 mg/L and the highest reduction in ammonia reached a final level of 0.53 mg/L. The levels of effectiveness of the process of decreasing ammonia levels by 94.70% and has been able to pass the specified quality standard effectiveness percentage (90%) for five days of processing. The value of this effectiveness is the highest compared to the controls and other activated sludge treatment.

ABSTRACT The cultivation of cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L) Walp] can be an important alternative in succession to maize in areas of degraded pastures due to the use of residue from fertilizers . With this, we aimed to evaluate the productivity of cowpea as a successor culture to undergo corn doses of reactive natural phosphate Arad and combinations with NPK. The experimental design was a randomized block design in a split plot with four replications. The fertilizer was applied in previous cultivation (crop) using four phosphate doses in the form of Arad natural phosphate: 50, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1 of P2O5 and the sub-plots in combination with NPK, NK, NK + liming, and control (no liming and fertilizer). The cowpea yield components were evaluated in this work. The residues of P2O5 from the natural phosphate increased the phosphorus content in the plant and influenced the number of grains per pod. The residual effect of NK+ liming and only NK showed better results for the variables grain yield, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod and dry mass of aerial part. The residual effect of NPK showed better results for the mass of 100 grains.
