This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of filters on the growth performances of catfish fry (Clarias gariepinus) in the aquaponic system. The study was conducted in the Ciparanje Green House, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor. A completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications was applied, namely treatment A: Water circulation using bioball filter medium, B: Water circulation using water spinach filter medium, C: Water circulation using bioball and water spinach filter media, and D: Water circulation using sponge filter medium (control). The container used for the maintenance was a fiber tank at 70 cm × 70 cm × 70 cm size filled with 257 L water and a stocking density of 15 fish/fiber. The parameters observed were survival rate, growth, feed conversion, and water quality. The results showed that the use of biological filter using water spinach produced the best growth performance of catfish. The best survival rate was also obtained by using water spinach filter (100%) with the absolute growth of 98.32 ± 15.6 g. The water quality an aquaponic system with water spinach filter supported the growth performance of catfish fry.   Keywords: absolute growth, aquaponic, Clarias gariepinus, filters.   ABSTRAK   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efektivitas filter terhadap performa pertumbuhan benih ikan lele Clarias gariepinus dalam sistem akuaponik. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Rumah Kaca Ciparanje, Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor. Metode penelitian adalah rancangan acak lengkap dengan empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan, yaitu perlakuan A: sirkulasi menggunakan media filter bioball, B: Sirkulasi menggunakan media filter bayam air, C: Sirkulasi menggunakan media filter bioball dan tanaman kangkung, dan    D : Sirkulasi menggunakan media spons (kontrol). Wadah yang digunakan untuk pemeliharaan bak fiber dengan ukuran 70 cm × 70 cm × 70 cm diisi dengan air sebanyak 257 L dengan padat tebar 15 ekor / bak. Parameter yang diamati adalah kelangsungan hidup, pertumbuhan ikan, konversi pakan dan kualitas air. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan filter biologis menggunakan tanaman kangkung menghasilkan  performa pertumbuhan ikan lele yang terbaik. Tingkat kelangsungan hidup terbaik juga ditunjukkan oleh pelakuran dengan filter berupa tanaman kankung (100%) dan pertumbuhan mutlak 98,32 ± 15,6 g. Kualitas air sistem akuaponik dengan filter tanaman kangkung mendukung performa pertumbuhan benih ikan lele.

Water quality and waste management are significant problems for aquaculture in Indonesia, including catfish (Clarias gariepinus) aquaculture. A combination of Aquaponics Systems and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (A-RAS) has been developed to address this problem. This study analyzed A-RAS application for catfish (Clarias gariepinus) aquaculture by comparing water quality and production indicators between A-RAS and conventional methods. The results show that temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, total organic matter, ammonia, nitrate and nitrite in A-RAS technology were 28.0-30.0°C, 6.5-7.9, 3.8-7.8 mg/L, 18.54-24.97 mg/L, 0.12- 0.28 mg/L, 0.12-0.13 mg/L, and 0.04-0.13 mg/L, respectively. Survival Rate, Feed Conversion Ratio, and harvest in A-RAS application were 85.5%, 1.1, and 26 kg/m³, respectively. A-RAS technology can maintain water quality to be reused in cultivation and increase yields by about 13%. Besides, water spinach can be an additional income for farmers.

Currently, the use of unconventional food sources in the inclusion of fish diets is cause of great interest. The growth performance of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) was evaluated, with the inclusion of duckweed meal (Lemna perpusilla) in four levels (0, 6, 12 and 18 %) in the diet. African catfish with an average weight of 1.27 ± 0.03 g, were distributed in a completely randomized design, with 16 experimental cages (four replicates/treatment). The fingerlings were fed for 48 days of experimentation. An analysis of variance and a Duncan´s test were performed. No significant differences were found (p< 0.05) for the first two levels evaluated, but with the rest there were differences, as the percentage of inclusion of the duckweed meal in the ration increased. Final weight was decreasing, as well as absolute growth rate, increase in daily weight, feed conversion ratio and food efficiency. Survival throughout the experiment was between 72 y 65 % in all treatments. The inclusion of duckweed meal in the diet did not affect the parameters of water quality. It was concluded that the L. perpusillase meal can be included up to 12 % in diets for African catfish fingerlings, without affecting the growth performance.

The present study evaluated the effects of stocking density on water quality parameters, growth performance and survival rate of white leg shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei, reared in fiberglass tanks, without water exchange. Three stocking densities (50, 100 and 200 shrimp/m2) were tested. Each treatment consisted of three replicates fiberglass tanks (500 L). The shrimp were fed ad libitum four times per day with a commercial pellet (40-42% protein). After an 8-week trial, concentrations of nutrients in the culture tanks showed an increasing linear relationship with increasing stocking density. The growth performance of shrimp in low stocking densities was significantly greater than that in high stocking densities. The results from this study demonstrate that with increasing the stocking density the production of shrimp increased but in a low final weight and survival compared to low stocking density.

Background The objective of the present study was to evaluate the growth performance and feed utilization of African catfish Clarias gariepinus fed a commercial diet and reared in the biofloc system enhanced with probiotic. Methods The treatment was the frequency of probiotic application into the cultured system, namely, 5-day interval, 10-day interval, and 15-day interval for 60 days of experiment. Biofloc culture was grown in an experiment tank (vol. 2000 L) by mixing the probiotic (Bacillus sp.) 10 mL and molasses 200 mL per liter of water.  The fish was stocked into the biofloc system 7 days after cultured at stocking density of 1000 fish tank-1.  The fish was fed a commercial diet that contains 38% crude protein, twice a day at satiation. The application of probiotic was reperformed after 5 days, 10 days, and 15 days after stocking. Results The study showed that the growth performance, survival, and feed utilization of African catfish were higher in the treatment at 5-day intervals over 60 days. The ANOVA test showed that the application frequency of probiotic into biofloc system of cultured media had the significant effect on the growth performance, survival rate, and feed utilization of African catfish. Conclusion The best growth performance and feed utilization were  found at the application of probiotic into biofloc system at 5-day intervals over 60 days.

The study aimed to evaluate the combination between commercial feed and fermented tofu waste feeding for growth, survival rate and production of red Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus in pond. The study was conducted in Experimental Pond Installation of Research Institute for Coastal Aquaculture, Maros, South Sulawesi, using eight ponds with 2,500 m2 in size. Red Tilapia fingerlings (±8 cm in length) were reared for 112 days with 1 individu/m2 of stocking density. The feeding treatments were of 100% commercial feed (A), 75% commercial feed + 25% fermented tofu waste (B), 50% commercial feed + 50% fermented tofu waste (C), and 25% commercial feed + 75% fermented tofu waste (D). Feeding frequency was given twice a day using concentration 10% of biomass weight in the first month, and decreased by 3% of biomass weight in the fourth month. Experimental was designed by a completely randomized designed consisted of four treatments and two replications for each treatment. Observed variables were growth, survival rate, feed conversion ratio, production, and water quality. Present study indicated that different levels of combination of commercial feed and fermented tofu waste had significant effect on growth (P<0.05), but did not have significant effect on survival rate, production, and feed conversion ratio (P>0.05). Feeding by combination of 75% commercial feed + 25% fermented tofu waste could be utilized optimally by Tilapia. During experiment, pond water quality was in conducive condition to support the growth and survival rate of red Tilapia.

Stocking density is an important factor in cultivation, it can save land use, and increase the efficiency of fish farming. The purpose of this research was to determine the different density information on tilapia seeds measuring 2-3 cm as an alternative to using tilapia (O. niloticus) seeds 7-9 cm in size so that they can be developed in Batur Lake. The research was conducted in January - March 2020 in the floating net cages in Trunyan Kintamani village, Bangli, Bali. The research used a completely randomized design method with three treatments and three repetitions. The Tilapia seeds used are 2-3 cm with different stocking densities, 100 ind/m3, 150 ind/m3, and 200 ind/m3. The parameters observed were SGR (Specific Growth Rate), absolute growth, SR (Survival Rate), FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio), and water quality including temperature, DO, pH, TDS. The results of this study indicated that stocking density did not have a significant effect on the growth and survival rate of tilapia seeds, because the temperature was too cold so that the tilapia seeds failed to adapt properly at the beginning of stocking and the physiological conditions of the fish were disturbed so that the fish experienced stress and went to died. Water quality parameters measured include temperature with a range value of 25.86-25.880C, pH with a range value of 9.08-9.13, DO (Dissolved oxygen) with a range value of 7.9-8 mg/L, and TDS (Dissolved solids) with a range value of 1040.25-1041.58 mg/L.

One of the technologies to keep the water quality remains optimal ias a recirculation system. This research is aimed to determine the influence of denisity of catfish (Clarias gariepinus) on the recirculation system. Fish test used is catfish fry the age of 2 weeks with average weight 0.58 g and an average length of 2.7 cm as much as 10,000 fish. The experimental research used completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were A (20 fish/liter of water), B (30 fish/liter of water), C (40 fish/liter of water) and D (50 fish/liter of water). The survival rate, the feed efficiency, and water quality has been observed. The results of research showed that the survival rate and the feed efficiency were significantly different (P<0.05). The highest survival rate in this research was in the treatment A (20 fish/liter of water) that was 70.5%. The stocking density of catfish fry of 20 fish/liter of water can be used as basis for  the maintenance of catfish fry for reach the optimal survival rate. Key words: Catfish, survival rate, feed efficiency, recirculation

<p class="NoParagraphStyle"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p class="NoParagraphStyle"><em> </em></p><p class="NoParagraphStyle">This study was aimed to analyze the growth performance of African catfish <em>Clarias gariepinus</em> cultured in the biofloc system at high stocking density. African catfish with an average weight of 1.85±0.09 g were cultured in four units of tarpaulin tank at a diameter of 1.72 m and a height of 1.05 m with a volume of ±2,000 L at the different density of 1,000 fish/m<sup>3</sup>; 1,500 fish/m<sup>3</sup>; 2,000 fish/m<sup>3</sup>; 2,500 fish/m<sup>3</sup>. During rearing period, fish were given the artificial feed with protein contents of 28.75% with the frequency of twice a day, as much as 3% of the body weight. The results showed that different treatment of high stocking density in the biofloc system had a significant effect on the absolute growth rate, lipid retention and energy retention (P&lt;0.05) but not significant effect on daily growth rate. The results showed that the highest lipid retention and energy retention were found in the group of fish treated at a stocking density of 2,500 fish/m<sup>3</sup> but declining protein retention and growth in fish occurred. Selama 40 hari masa pemeliharaan, ikan diberi pakan buatan berkadar protein 28,75% dengan frekwensi dua kali sehari, sebanyak 3% dari berat tubuh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan perbedaan padat penebaran tinggi pada sistem bioflok memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap pertumbuhan mutlak, retensi lemak dan retensi energi (P&lt;0,05) namun tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap laju pertmbuhan harian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi padat penebaran terjadinya peningkatan retensi lemak dan retensi energi yaitu pada perlakuan padat penebaran 2.500 ekor/m<sup>3</sup> tetapi terjadi penurunan nilai retensi protein dan pertumbuhan pada ikan. One of the freshwater fishes thatbegan to bedeveloped is Wader fish, but there is still a lot of information that has notbeen supportedon fish farming techniques. One of them is the optimal stocking density for cultivation. The purpose of this study was to study the effects of different stocking densities on the growth and survival rates of the WaderCakulfish (Puntiusbinotatus).This research was conductedin May - July 2018. The method used in this study was to use aCompletely Randomized Design with 4 training, namely P1 (2 fish/liter), P2 (3 fish/liter), P3 (4 fish/liter) and P4 (5 fish/liter).Each treatment was repeated3 times. The main parameters were absolute growth rate (length and weight gain)(GR), specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate (SR), and feed conversion ratio (FCR).Data were analyzedusing ANOVA (analysis of variance) and continued with the Least Significant Difference Test. The results showed that different stocking densities gave significant values (P <0.05) for GR, SGR, SR and FCR comparisons. The best treatment in this study was P1 with a growth value of 0.31 ± 0.01 gram, SGR 3.50 ± 0.03%, Long Growth 1.97 ± 0.05 cm, SR 85.07 ± 2.17% and FCR 1.47 ± 0.02. P1 (2 fish/liter) is the best maintenance to increase the growth, survival rate, and feed efficiency of thecakulwader fish.
