The research develops a model of Strategic Organizational Learning (SOL) to acquire and build institutional knowledge as a long-term competitive advantage in family businesses known as paladars. It aims to consolidate and strengthen the SME Horeca sector in Havana, Cuba. The proposed methodology is not experimental and correlational cross-sectional. The Knowledge Transfer equation was implemented to measure the SOL based on the proposed model. Also, it was used to determine the relationship between learning and competition. The equation was validated. The results indicated that most paladars present an SOL Medium/Regular, and independence exists between competition and learning. However, there is great ignorance to foster the organizational culture in the HORECA sector. This study suggests that the arrival of US competition causes these establishments perish.

This explanatory research explores the relationship among environmental uncertainty, knowledge transfers mechanisms, dynamic capability, and competitive advantage. A total of 235 project managers employed by energy companies in Thailand were invited to participate in the study. The findings indicated that (a) through knowledge transfer mechanisms, project teams could develop an energy enterprises core competence and build its competitive advantage, (b) the relationship between environmental uncertainty and knowledge transfer mechanisms is negative, and (c) dynamic capability and competitive advantage have a positive relationship. The limitations of the study regarding generalization, and recommendations for future research to replicate the study in other countries, are also included.

The link between the work motivation and work commitment is well established in a variety of work settings. However, the role of organizational culture is not explored in depth, especially as a moderator between work motivation and work commitment. The present study undertakes an examination of the above explained model. The sample consisted of 351 academics from nine public universities in the state of Punjab, Pakistan. Cross-sectional survey design was employed to collect the data. The statistical analyses were performed with Partial Least Squares technique using the Smart PLS 3.0. The findings revealed that adhocracy culture moderates the link between non-self-determined work motivation and work commitment among university academic staff. The study has implications for authorities to capitalize on organizational culture to boost work motivation that will ultimately improve work commitment among academics.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Organizational learning capability and firm innovativeness of manufacturing firms in the south-south of Nigeria. The study offers an empirical assessment of the relationship as based on its model – 4 null hypothetical statements are put forward. The research design adopted was the cross-sectional survey and data for this study was generated from managers and key personnel of the target organizations using structured questionnaire. The study adopted the Spearman’s rank order correlation in its assessment for the bivariate correlations between dimensions of organizational learning capability (managerial commitment and system orientation) and measures of firm innovativeness (propensity to create new products and propensity to create new processes). The findings reveal significant relationships between dimensions of organizational learning capability and the measures of firm innovativeness. In conclusion, it was stated that organizational learning capability, through dimensions such as managerial commitment and system orientation, offers the necessary support, orientation and knowledge control for enhancing firm innovativeness.

AbstractEach child has a task that must be passed well, especially at the age of the child (12-36 months). One of the developmental tasks in toddlers is toilet training. Long-term use of diapers can cause toilet effects. This study aims to determine the relationship between diapers with the ability of toileting in children.The design of this research is Correlation with cross sectional approach. Large sample of 70 respondents. Sampling of the study using total sampling, data collection using questionnaires and calculations using Chi-square Correlation test using SPSS 16.0 error α 0.05.The results of the research variables The use of diapers in children interpreted most of the 47 children of respondents (67.1%) Did not use and almost half of the 23 respondents (32.9%) use. The ability of toileting in children is interpreted by most of the 42 respondents (60.0%) fulfilled, and almost half of 28 respondents (40.0%) are not met.Based on the calculation of Chi-square SPSS statistic shows that p value 0,000 <0,05) means that there is relationship of diaper usage with the ability of toileting in children with the closeness of cc relationship of 0.479 enough category.The results of this study concluded that almost half of them use diapers, and almost half of them do not meet the ability of toileting, the researcher suggests in the research place to put a picture or leaflet about the effect of Diaper Usage on Toileting Ability so that the wise mother in using Diapers.Keywords: diapers, toileting, children AbstrakSetiap anak mempunyai tugas perkembangan yang harus dilewati dengan baik, terlebih pada usia toddler (12-36 bulan). Salah satu tugas perkembangan pada anak usia toddler adalah toilet training. Pemakaian diapers dalam jangka panjang dapat menimbulkan efek yang berbahaya serta bisa menghambat kemampuan toilet training anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Hubungan Penggunaan diapers dengan kemampuan toileting pada anakDesain penelitian ini adalah Korelasi dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Besar sampel 70 responden. Sampling penelitian menggunakan Total sampling, pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dan perhitungan menggunakan uji Korelasi Chi-square dengan menggunakan SPSS 16.0 kesalahan α 0,05.Hasil penelitian variabel Penggunaan diapers pada anak diinterpretasikan sebagian besar 47 anak responden (67,1%) Tidak menggunakan dan hampir setengahnya 23 responden (32,9%) menggunakan. Pada kemampuan toileting pada anak diinterpretasikan sebagian besar 42 responden (60,0%) tercapai, dan hampir setengahnya 28 responden (40,0%) belum tercapai.Berdasarkan perhitungan uji statistik Chi-square SPSS menunjukkan p value 0,000< 0,05) artinya ada hubungan penggunaan diapers dengan kemampuan toileting pada anak dengan keeratan hubungan cc sebesar 0,479 kategori cukupHasil penelitian disimpulkan hampir setengahnya menggunakan diapers, dan hampir setengahnya belum tercapai kemampuan toileting maka peneliti menyarankan pada tempat penelitian untuk memasang gambar atau leaflet tentang dampak Penggunaan Diapers Terhadap Kemampuan Toileting, sehingga ibu bijak dalam menggunakan Diapers.Kata kunci: Diapers, Toileting, Anak.

ABSTRACT Empathy is an important factor to guarantee the quality of care provided in the long-term care institutions (LTCIs) for older adults, and depression is a factor that affects the health of the professional and, consequently, the care. Thus, it is important that studies are conducted on the relationship of these variables in this context. Objective: The aim of this study is to verify the relationship between empathy and depressive symptoms among health professionals working in the LTCIs. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at LTCIs in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The final sample was constituted by 101 health professionals (i.e., caregivers and nursing technicians) with direct participation in the care of institutionalized older adults. The instruments were used as follows: the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) to assess empathy and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) for the diagnosis of depression. For the analyses, the patients were divided into groups with and without depression, according to the score of the PHQ-9. Results: The prevalence of depression among health professionals was 19.8%. Significant statistical differences were found between the groups for the total score of the IRI (p=0.029), for the emotional domain (p=0.023), and for the personal distress (p=0.009). Conclusions: The findings indicate that the presence of depression among health professionals at LTCIs is related to the higher levels of empathy, especially in the emotional domain. Thus, future studies that contribute to understanding how care must be provided with empathy, but without harming the health of the professional, should be carried out.

The literature on immigrant health has by and large focused on the relationship between acculturation (often measured by a shift in language use) and health outcomes, paying less attention to network processes and the implications of interethnic integration for long-term health. This study frames English-language use among immigrants in the United States as a reflection of bridging social capital that is indicative of social network diversity. Using longitudinal data on self-rated health and the incidence of chronic conditions from the New Immigrant Survey (2003, 2007), I examine the contemporaneous and longitudinal associations between interethnic social capital and health. The results show evidence for a positive long-term effect of linguistic integration on health status, but no cross-sectional associations were observed. Overall, these results highlight the possible role of network processes in linking English-language use with immigrant health and the time-dependent nature of the relationship between linguistic integration and health status.

This chapter examines the roles of organizational creativity and organizational learning effectiveness in explaining the processes through which knowledge creation capabilities help firms to obtain and sustain competitive advantage. The proposed model specifies that organizational learning effectiveness plays a pivotal role in the relationship between knowledge creation and creativity. New knowledge develops better routines that make operations more efficient and effective. As organizations learn from newly generated knowledge, not only do they improve existing processes, but dynamic capabilities also develop to integrate knowledge into creative ideas, novel solutions, and new products and services. This theoretical examination leads to the proposition that organizational learning effectiveness mediates the relationship between knowledge creation capabilities and organizational creativity. This chapter also examines whether the effect of knowledge creation processes on organizational creativity exists in all organizations or is contingent on the nature of the organization’s knowledge. Based on the common understanding that tacit and explicit knowledge differ substantially in their codifiability and transferability, the authors specify the moderating role of knowledge characteristics in the process of using knowledge management to foster organizational creativity. The theoretical examination leads to the proposition that the degree of tacitness of the organization’s critical knowledge moderates the effect of knowledge creation capabilities on organizational creativity mediated by organizational learning effectiveness. Finally, the authors argue that the degree of institutionalization of the organization’s critical knowledge moderates the effect of knowledge creation capabilities on organizational creativity, which is in turn mediated by organizational learning effectiveness. Implications for research and managerial practices are discussed.

The paper aims to clarify the influences of collaborative culture and specific aspects of organizational learning on competitive advantage. Structural equations modeling (SEM) is applied to test degree of influence of each variable has on each other through using data collected from 298 participants at 150 large manufacturing and service firms. The result shows that organizational learning act as mediating roles in the relationship between collaborative culture and competitive advantage. Our results indicate that collaborative culture practices will yield significant effects to competitive advantage directly or indirectly through improving specifics aspects of organizational learning. The findings of this study provide a theoretical basis, which can be used to analyze relationships between collaborative culture, specifics aspects of organizational learning and competitive advantage. From a practical perspective, the study brings more deeply understanding for CEOs/managers about the necessary factors to encourage and promote firm’s competitive advantage.

Purpose Innovativeness is a critical aspect for the survival and success of the company in the long term. The purpose of this paper is to study how the density of the network in which the company is immersed influences the relationship between environment, dynamism and innovativeness. More specifically, the authors analyse whether the network density acts in a heterogeneous way, worsening or improving the effects of technological and market dynamism on innovativeness, respectively. Design/methodology/approach The empirical study was conducted on a sample of 292 companies in the agri-food industry in Spain. In order to test the proposed model, the authors used partial least squares. Findings The results show that technological dynamism has a positive effect on the generation and development of a firm’s innovativeness. However, market dynamism does not influence innovativeness. The authors also observe that the interactive effects between network density and dynamism are significant, but in a divergent way. Whereas the interactive effect between density and technological dynamism is negative, the interaction between density and market dynamism is positive. Originality/value The main contribution of the study is to show how the level of network density alters the effect of technological and market dynamism on innovativeness. The authors highlight the relevance of network theory to explain the contextual background to innovativeness. The authors also stress the importance of differentiating between the market and technological components of dynamism to further elucidate their effects.
