In Mozambique, development programmes have traditionally drawn on music as a means to promote social transformation by educating citizens on key social development issues. Shifting the focus from music as a teaching medium to music as a rich source of information can provide vital insights into public opinion and political ideas, and significantly impact the development of citizen engagement projects. Maximum gains for development and civil society agencies can be achieved by mainstreaming gender into mutual learning activities between singers, audiences, and academics.

The corona-pandemic demonstrates that times of crisis are characterized by their specific dynamic especially through their social and political processing. They are often accompanied by an increased or more visible civil society engagement. This can result in further social changes, such as protests or demonstrations resulting in political or media debates. The actors involved – e. g. the current Fridays for Future movement - are important for the targeted change, as well as the organizational structures and the context (opportunity structures) that determines civil society actions. What significance do social movements have for sustainable (social) development and to what extent can they be understood as social and individual learning or educational spaces? In this paper, I present central theoretical strands of the research on social movements and their development. Then I focus on the associated learning and educational processes in and for movements and the actors involved. The example of ecological movements and Fridays for Future illustrates how social transformation and individual engagement and learning are related to one another.

This study aims to determine the emotional social development of early childhood in Integrated Early Childhood Education Tarbiyatul Athfal UIN Antasari Banjarmasin as well as the form of learning activities undertaken as an effort to stimulate the emotional social development. The research method used is qualitative research on 6 children and learning activities that can stimulate children's emotional emotional development as primary data. Based on research conducted, the results obtained that the child's emotional social development tends to be unstable. Children often prefer to play alone. Nevertheless, children also begin to show interest in hanging out in the surrounding environment and doing play activities together. In addition, there are several factors influence, such as: social emotional experiences of children, gender differences, differences in family and cultural backgrounds, and parenting. While the form of learning activities that are pursued in the form of stimulation of children's emotional social development include: routine activities of reading Asmaul Husna and short surahs, filling in journals, playing indoor, and conducting learning activities. The activity was carried out through exemplary methods, sharing learning, and collaborative games.

The very destructiveness of nuclear weapons makes them unusable for ethical and military reasons. The world has placed growing restrictions on the full range of nuclear programs and activities. But with the five NPT nuclear powers failing to eliminate nuclear arsenals, other countries acquiring the bomb, arms control efforts stalled, nuclear risks climbing, and growing awareness of the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of nuclear war, the United Nations adopted a new treaty to ban the bomb. Some technical anomalies between the 1968 and 2017 treaties will need to be harmonized and the nuclear-armed states’ rejection of the ban treaty means it will not eliminate any nuclear warheads. However, it will have a significant normative impact in stigmatizing the possession, use and threat of use of nuclear weapons and serve as a tool for civil society to mobilize domestic and world public opinion against the doctrine of nuclear deterrence.

Affluent democracies have experienced tremendous socio-economic changes since the mid- twentieth century, which has reshaped public opinion, party programs, and electoral choices. This chapter first summarizes the societal changes that have been a driving force behind the political changes described in this study. One pattern involves the longstanding economic issues of contemporary democracies, and shifting social positions on these issues. In addition, an evolving cultural cleavage and its ties to broader attitudes toward social change have altered citizen policy preferences. In most affluent democracies, the parties’ responses to these changing citizen demands have produced a realignment to represent both economic and cultural positions. The chapter concludes by discussing the implications of the findings for the working of electoral systems and the democratic process more broadly.

AbstractThe following manuscript employs critical inquiry to analyze the effects of neoliberalism on nonprofits in the U.S. and their capacity to engage in political advocacy and the production of meaning, a pivotal role for civil society institutions. Three false narratives of how nonprofits support democracy are presented followed by a discussion of how neoliberalism and the economization of the sector has delimited their capacity to fulfill their roles of engaging in emancipatory projects or social change. The manuscript concludes with a discussion of how nonprofits can reclaim civic space and empower citizens in a representative democracy.

This special issue focuses on the role of civil society in international relations. It highlights the dynamics and impacts of public opinion on international relations (Zaller, 1992). Until recently, it was usual to consider public opinion in terms of its influence on policy makers and in terms of moulding public opinion in the broad frame of the policy makers in one's country. Given that public opinion in the United States was assessed and judged so frequently and diffused so globally, it was natural to frame questions guided by those concepts which pertained to the global and domestic context of the United States.

The article reveals the eff orts of Russian academic community to depoliticize ethnicity, to change the theory of ethnic, and to create new approaches to ethnicity research following main trends of world science. The article shows the influence of science on institutional space such as changing the name of disciplines and associations, and the new politic of identity developing. The analyzing of that changes influenced the idea of the importance of ethnicity in the mass consciousness is made based on data from the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey (RLMS-HSE) an FCTAS RAS project “The Dynamics of Social Transformation of Modern Russia’s Socioeconomic, Political, Sociocultural and Ethnoreligious Contexts”. The author makes a conclusion that influence of science on public opinion about ethnicity is limited by the ambivalence of Russian politics of identity policy in 2000s, and by the inertia of mass consciousness.

The paper analyzes the role of Design as an agent of social transformation in face of complex challenges. Intentionally embracing reality’s complexity and centering on human values, the Design approach is suited to develop alternative perspectives and radically different strategies for change. The paper explores Design teaching focusing on social change and transition to sustainability, presenting three initiatives and reflecting about methods and impacts of the application of Design for transition. The analysis points to the need of a critical vision in Design research and teaching and the importance to systematize and teach methods and tools to support the interplay among diverse social actors.
