The aim of this research was to describe how many word students able to write English vocabulary in a short time and to describe the students’ difficulties in mastery English vocabulary. This research designed in a qualitative descriptive method, the data collected through written tests and unstructured interviews by using Focus Group Discussion. The subject of this research was twenty students grade two of Bahasa Indonesia Study Program at STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. The results showed: in the writing English vocabulary test in three type Noun, verb and Adjective, students able to wrote average 10 word in each part and the students’ difficulties such as: Students seldom reading English text so their vocabulary mastery very low, Students has low ability to remember new English word caused of never practiced in the daily life and students confuse in using irregular word in arrange the sentence both writing and speaking.

Code-switching is a phenomenon that exists in bilingual societies where people have the opportunity to use two or more languages to communicate. Being able to speak more than one language, bilinguals can code-switch and use their languages as resources to find better ways to convey meaning. Code-switching occurs in English Study Program, Faculty of Lecturer Training, University of Banten Jaya, Serang, Banten. Therefore, the aim for this paper was to investigate when and why the lecturer in the class “English for a Group Activity” used code-switch when teaching L2 English. It has also looked into what language the learners preferred in different classroom situations. Alecturer were interviewed and 32learners taking the class. The results showed that the lecturer generally tried to code-switch as little as possible but that they did code-switch in some of those situations where the learners preferred either a combination of Bahasa Indonesia and English or only Bahasa Indonesia. Two of these situations were grammar instructions, where a majority of the learners preferred a combination of English and Bahasa Indonesia, and one-to-one situations, where a majority of the learners preferred Bahasa Indonesia.

ABSTRAK Dalam tulisan tugas karya ilmiah mahasiswa Jurusan Manajemen Akuntansi, Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis, UPN “Veteran” Jakarta, masih dijumpai adanya kesalahan penerapaan ejaan, diksi, dan pengalimatan yang kurang efektif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan penerapan ejaan, diksi, dan kalimat efektif. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode desktiptif kualitatif, yaitu mendeskripsikan data yang terpilih yang terkait dengan kesalahan ejaan, diski, dan kalimat efektif. Adapun acuan untuk menganalisis data penulis menggunakan Pedoman Umum Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia, edisi tahun 2016. Untuk menganalisis pengalimatan, penulis mengacu pada Bahasa Indonesia: Dasar-Dasar Pengembangan Kepribadian, edisi tahun 2018. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam tugas karya ilmiah mahsiswa, terdapat kesalahan seperti berikut. 1) Penerapan ejaan khusunya penulisan singkatan nama sifat Tuhan, singkatan gelar, penulisan nama dalam sebuah kutipan, dan Penulisan unsur-unsur bahasa asing. 2) pilihan kata yang kurang tepat yang belum sesuai dengan konteksnya. 3) Terdapat kekeliruan dalam membuat kalimat, seperti kurang cermat dalam menyikapi ekonomi bahasa, konjungsi, dan ketikdakjelasan subjek. Kata Kunci: ejaan, diksi, pengalimatan ABSTRACT In writing of scientific assignments of the Accounting Management Department’s students, Faculty of Economics and Business, UPN "Veterans" Jakarta, there are still spelling errors, diction, and ineffective wording. This study aims at describing the errors in the application of spelling, diction and effective sentences. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method, which describes the selected data related to spelling errors, discourse, and effective sentences. The writer used Pedoman Umum Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia, 2016 edition, as reference. To analyze the wording, the writer refers to Bahasa Indonesia: Dasar-Dasar Pengembangan Kepribadian, 2018 edition. The findings are; 1) Application of the spelling especially writing the abbreviation for the name of the attribute of God, abbreviation for the title, writing the name in a quote, and writing the elements of a foreign language. 2) improper choice of words that do not fit the context. 3) There are mistakes in making sentences, such as inaccuracy in dealing with the economics of language, conjunctions, and typing obscurity of the subject. Students had some problems in terms of extensive reading. The problems were (1) students forget some principles and benefits of extensive reading because they learned about principle and benefits of extensive reading in the previous semester, (2) students do not know how to implement a successful practice of extensive reading, and (3) students were still difficult to enjoy and get information in their reading of either fiction or nonfiction books. Thus, this research was aimed to know how students implement extensive reading and students’ difficulties when practice extensive reading. This research was qualitative descriptive research. The subject of this research was the fourth-semester students in the English Education Study Program of Institut Agama Islam Negeri Bengkulu. The instruments of this research were observation checklist, interview sheet, and documentation. The result of this research showed that there were students who implemented extensive reading but students implemented extensive reading in the outside classroom and the students still had difficulties when implementing extensive reading. The percentage of students’ implementation of extensive reading in the outside classroom was 62% while the percentage of students’ difficulties encounter practicing extensive reading was 91%. It concluded that students implemented extensive reading in the outside classroom without the supervision of the lecturer and students have many problems when practice extensive reading.

This study aimed to know students' opinions about the implementations of asynchronous learning (Screencast-O-Matic and Google-Form apps) during COVID-19, to identify the advantages and disadvantages were produced by these devices, as well as to analyze how big the students' confidence on this type of learning when implemented in the rural area. The subject of this study consisted of 45 respondents from the English education study program. They spread in the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8thsemester. Qualitative descriptive students were used in this study. Among the questionnaire, open-ended questions and interviews were the methods to collect the data. The results of this study indicated these platforms had shown various obstacles. Over half of respondents criticize that limited internet access was one of the most significant restrictions when implementing asynchronous learning (Screencast-O-Matic and Google-Form apps). Although Screencast-O-Matic and Google-Form had some barriers in their virtual class, they provide more advantages. Many respondents believed they have all these advantages compared to the limits. The majority of respondents argued that it facilitated EFL students to increase acquisitions of language software that could contribute to students' ICT capabilities in particular.

ABSTRACTThis journal discusses the problem of using foreign language as an amplifier of Indonesian language literacy. This journal aims to find out the benefits of the application of a foreign language, in this case English for Indonesian literacy works, especially in the Indonesian Language Education Study Program FKIP UNS. Data in the form of documents were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The purpose of this study is to show the importance of foreign languages in Indonesian language literacy. The results show that the role of foreign languages in Indonesian language literacy is useful in; (a) support reference sources in Indonesian language literacy, and (b) improve foreign language skills as a provision for knowledge.

Abstract: The ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese is one of the important indicators of learning outcomes. Therefore, in addition to the learning process, communication outside the classroom should ideally also use Mandarin Chinese. This study aims to find out the intensity of speaking in Mandarin among students of Mandarin Language Education study program of Universitas Negeri Malang with local and native lecturers as well as its challenges and underlying factors. This research is descriptive quantitative with the subject of students of Mandarin Language Education study program class of 2018 offfering A and B. The Data collection is done using questionnaires. The results showed that 72.1% of students rarely use Mandarin in communicating with local lecturers. 76.7% of students prefer to ask local lecturers rather than natives. A total of 66.8% of students still use Indonesian when communicating with local lecturers, and 44.2% use mixed Indonesian and Mandarin none of whom speak Mandarin in its entirety. The results of the survey showed that this was because students found it difficult to communicate using Mandarin, students felt afraid or hesitant in using Mandarin, and students felt less confident in their Chinese language skills. Untuk itu, selain pada saat proses pembelajaran, komunikasi di luar kelas idealnya juga harus menggunakan bahasa Mandarin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui intensitas komunikasi berbahasa Mandarin mahasiswa program studi pendidikan bahasa Mandarin Universitas Negeri Malang dengan dosen lokal dan native serta faktor hambatan yang mempengaruhinya. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif dengan subjek mahasiswa program studi pendidikan bahasa Mandarin angkatan 2018 offering A dan B. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan angket. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 72,1% mahasiswa jarang menggunakan bahasa Mandarin dalam berkomunikasi dengan dosen lokal. 76,7% mahasiswa lebih memilih bertanya pada dosen lokal daripada native. Sebanyak 66,8% mahasiswa masih menggunakan bahasa Indonesia saat berkomunikasi dengan dosen lokal, dan 44,2% menggunakan bahasa campuran Indonesia dan Mandarin, tidak ada yang menggunakan bahasa Mandarin secara utuh. Hasil angket menunjukkan hal ini disebabkan mahasiswa merasa kesulitan dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Mandarin, mahasiswa merasa takut atau ragu dalam menggunakan bahasa Mandarin, dan mahasiswa merasa kurang yakin dengan kemampuan berbahasa Mandarin yang dimiliki. AbstrakMasalah dalam penelitian ini yaitu pentingnya strategi produk dalam menjalankan sebuah usaha agar mampu bertahan dan bersaing  dengan perusahaan lain yang sejenis dalam kondisi persaingan yang ketat dan perkembangan zaman yang sangat cepat. Strategi produk sangat diperlukan dalam mememenuhi tuntutan konsumen seperti meningkatkan kualitas, menciptakan merek, pelayanan serta jaminan terhadap produk yang ditawarkan agar usaha mampu berkembang. Limpapeh”s Kebaya adalah usaha yang sedang berkembang dan telah mampu memasarkan produk bordirnya hingga menembus pasar ekspor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi produk bordir di Limpapeh”s Kebaya, Kapalo Koto, Koto Tangah Simalanggang, Kota Payakumbuh. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode deskriftif kualitatif, jenis data berupa data primer dan  sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik analisa model interaktif yang berkaitan dengan pokok permasalahan yaitu dengan model reduksi data, penyajian data dan pengambilan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian yaitu strategi produk yang dilakukan di Limpapeh”s Kebaya adalah dimulai dari menciptakan produk bordir yang berkualitas, desain motif bordir yang up to date dan kreatif, menyediakan ukuran yang special, memberi merek pada produk bordir, memberi kemasan yang menarik (paperbag) dan serbaguna, pelayanan yang cepat, tepat dan ramah serta pemberian jaminan terhadap produk border.Kata Kunci: strategi produk, pelayanan, bordir. AbstractThe problem in this study is the importance of product strategy in running a business in order to be able to survive and compete with other similar companies in conditions of intense competition and very rapid development of the times. Product strategy is very necessary in fulfilling consumer demands such as improving quality, creating brands, services and guarantees for products offered so that businesses are able to grow. Limpapeh's Kebaya is a growing business and has been able to market its embroidery products to penetrate the export market. This study aims to describe the strategy of embroidery products in Limpapeh's Kebaya, Kapalo Koto, Koto Tangah Simalanggang, Payakumbuh City. The research method uses qualitative descriptive method, the type of data in the form of primary and secondary data. The technique of collecting data through observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out with interactive model analysis techniques that are related to the subject matter, namely with a model of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results of the research, namely the product strategy carried out at Limpapeh's Kebaya, are started from creating quality embroidery products, up-to-date and creative embroidery motifs, providing special sizes, giving brands to embroidery products, giving attractive packaging (paperbag) and versatile, fast, precise and friendly service and guarantee of embroidery products. The objectives of research include; first, to describe what local Islamic working ethos are as the basis for the resilience of songkok, whip and slap handicraft businesses in Serah Panceng Gresik Village. Second, to describe the resilience of the songkok, whip and slap handicraft business in the village of Serah Panceng Gresik. This study is a qualitative-descriptive study with the aim of understanding the phenomena experienced by the subject of research including behavior, perception, motivation, and action holistically by utilizing various scientific methods. Data collection methods include; Observation, In-depth Interview or Focus Group Discussion, Documentation. Data analysis techniques include: processing and preparing data for analysis, reading the entire data, analyzing in more detail by coding data, considering detailed instructions that can help the coding process, giving descriptions that will be presented in the report, interpreting and interpreting data. The results showed that in Serah Village local Islamic working ethos were preserved by the community, such as alms giving, reading dziba', reading tahlil, attending haul akbar, and reading sholawat together every Friday. Although in the tradition it does not involve songkok, whip, and slap directly, there is a good impact to support the resilience of songkok, but not whip, and slap production. Religious rituals by praying together asking Allah to facilitate and carry out business in production songkok, whip, and slap are an expression of gratitude for what God gave to the people of Serah Village. ABSTRACT The objective of this research is to give understanding and clear explanation about teaching students’ listening skill by English video. Commonly, teaching listening through tape recorder, but in this research teacher shows different way, video is collaboration between pictures and sound components, and it contains a recording of a movie or television program. Students can be able to know the activity or a topic being discussion through visual aid and knowing the pictures expression clearly, this way can help students to get clear information both pronunciations and expression. Grade VIII of SMPN 15 Tangerang with total number is 20 students and 10 English teachersas the subject of the research.  Qualitative descriptive method is applied in this research to explain teaching process through video clearly, however, literature and questionnaere with close answer form is given to get the data. The result of this research are: firstly, teaching listening skill through video can be used by the teacher to make a listening class is more enjoyable and understandable, because audio visual aid can cover students various learning style, finally at the end of teaching and listening process the objectives of study can be gained. Secondly; teaching listening through video is very useful way to encourage and foster students’ listening skill and their interest.      Keywords: Using Video, Listening skill, teaching listening

Sosiolinguistik memberikan pengetahuan tentang code switching (campur kode). Analisis teks novel untuk memahami penggunaan campur kode penutur dapat dilaksanakan untuk pengembangan ilmu sosiologi bahasa. Metode deskriptif kualitatif dalam menganalisis temuan dan mengklasifikasikan pencampuran kode dari Novel Andre Herata Sang Pemimpi. Analisis data berfokus pada kalimat dan paragraf yang menunjukkan penggunaan pencampuran kode di dalamnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada satu jenis pencampuran kode yang ditemukan dalam novel Sang Pemimpi yaitu pencampuran kode luar (bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris) yang kemunculannya ada dalam bentuk kata, frasa, dan penyisipan klausa. Penggunaan dan jenis-jenis pencampuran kode yang ada dalam novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata meyangkut pencampuran kode; pada pencampuran berbagai unit linguistik, seperti morfem, kata-kata, pengubah, frasa, klausa dan kalimat, terutama yang berasal dari dua sistem tata bahasa yang berpartisipasi dalam sebuah kalimat. Dapat disimpulkan narator menggunakan pencampuran kode dari Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, dan pencampuran kode luar dari Bahasa Inggris; punchbag, sprinter, fan, session, speaker, shock, slide dan Bahasa Arab. Abstract. Sociolinguistics gave knowledge of the switching codes. Text analysis of novels for understanding the interdiction of interpreting codes can be performed for the development of language sociology. The qualitative descriptive method of analyzing the find and classifying the code mixing of the novel Andre herata Sang pemimpi. Data analysis focuses on sentences and paragraphs that indicate the use of a code mixing in them. Studies have shown that one type of mixing code found in the Sang pemimpi novel is that it includes a mixture of outside codes (Indonesian and English) that appears in the form of words, phrases, and insertion of klausa. The use and kinds of coded blending in the book of Sang pemimpi Andrea hirata passes the mixing of codes; In the mixing of various linguistic units, such as morpheme, words, modifiers, phrases, clauses and sentences, especially those that come from the two grammatical systems that participate in a sentence. It could be inferred that the narrator used a code mixing from Indonesian, Malay, and a proprietary blend of English; punchbag, sprinter, fan, session, speaker, shock, slide dan Arabic.
