This study is aimed to compare the blood cholesterol profile, before and after the measurement of maximum aerobic capacity (VO2max) in the students of Jurusan Pendidikan Olahraga dan Kesehatan (JPOK) pada Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) Universitas Lambung Mangkurat Banjarmasin.Variables in this study consist of lipid profiles, including total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride (TG) and Maximum Aerobic Capacity (VO2max). The concept of VO2max according to Kent(1994:268): “maximum oxygen volume consumed per minute to show total work capacity, or volume per minute relative to body weight (ml/kg.min)”. Operationally, VO2max referred in this study is the maximum volume of oxygen that can be consumed per minute, as measured at progressive run (Bleep Test).<br />The method used in this study is pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. This design implies that a group of subjects are treated for a specific period and the measurements are taken both pre and post. The results: There are changes in blood cholesterol profile after the measurement of maximum oxygen capacity (VO2max), shown by significant decrease of total cholesterol variable, increased HDL, and decreased LDL. Changes in triglyceridevariable showed no significant decrease despite the statistic differences. Specific HDL sub-class increasing after exercise is a constructive lipoprotein sub-class whereas LDL is destructive lipoproteins sub-class that might damage the body. Therefore, an increase in HDL and decrease in LDL found in this study appears to be advantageous and consequently might alter the risk of coronary heart disease.

Background: Cholesterol is a fat that does not dissolve easily in the blood. Most of the cholesterol in the blood is attached to specific protein carriers in the plasma in the form of lipoprotein complexes, which are soluble in water. Lipoprotein which carries cholesterol throughout the body. namely LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) and HDL (High Density Lipoprotein). An increase in LDL in the body tends to form atherosclerosis. In contrast HDL cholesterol inhibits LDL oxidation so that atherosclerotic plaque formation does not occur. Obesity is one of the risk factors for atherosclerosis with manifestations of coronary heart disease. Handling of obesity has been done by many researchers and implemented. One ingredient from nature that serves as an alternative ingredient to lower blood cholesterol levels is avocado. Objective: To determine the effect of avocado administration on total blood cholesterol levels in the obese college students at the Medical Faculty of Nommensen HKBP University in 2019. Methods :This research is a pre-experimental study with a pre-post test design in one group. The sample was selected by purposive sampling method and obtained 20 obese students. Subjects consumed avocado juice every day for 14 days. Total cholesterol levels were measured before (day 0) and after (day 14) treatment. Results: The mean total cholesterol level of the subject's blood on the pretest examination was 188.10 mg / dL and the posttest examination was 180.05 mg / dL. There was a decrease in the average total blood cholesterol level of 8.05 mg / dl. Paired T-test showed that there was a non-significant decrease in mean total blood cholesterol level with a value of p = 0.068 (p <0.05). Conclusion: In this study there was no effect of avocado administration on total blood cholesterol levels in obese students.

The aim of this research was to find out the effect of probiotic on blood cholesterol in laying hens. Materials used were laying hens (Isa Brown strain) 43 weeks old and ration using probiotics. This research was conducted by using completely randomized design (CRD). The advanced research was done with testing the local probiotic with various concentration treatment, they are P0 (ration without probiotic), P1 (ration + 1% local probiotic), P2 (ration + 2% local probiotic), and P3 (ration + 3% local probiotic) with 5 time repetitions and in every repetitions consists of 2 chicken. Variables that were observed in the advance research were laying hens’s blood cholesterol that consists of total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglycerides, and total leucocyte. The level of total cholesterol on P0, P1, P2, and P3 were 129.00±38.26, 116.00± 26.53, 121.00±33.72, and 137.00±52.53 mg/dL (P>0.05) respectively; the HDL level were 50.60±16.47, 35.80±11.28, 59.40±19.74; 56.80±30.56 mg/dL (P>0.05); the LDL level were 100.20±49.53, 39.20±17.14, 104.60±51.23, and 96.80±66.22 mg/dL (P>0.05), respectively; the trigycerides level were 862.00±355.5, 533.00±146.1, 829.00±242.6, and 810.00±304 mg/dL (P>0.05), respectively; and leucocyte count were 22.00±1.72, 21.00±3.79, 31.00±3.99, and 34.00±3.55 x103 mm3 (P<0.01), respectively. In conclusion, the administrtion of local probiotic do not effect the blood cholesterol of layer chicken.

We evaluated the effects of Cynanchum wilfordii (CW) ethanolic extract on blood cholesterol levels in adults with high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel trial, 84 subjects were recruited. Participants were randomly divided into two groups with a low-dose (300 mg/d) or high-dose (600 mg/d) of CW. Levels of very low-density lipoprotein (p = 0.022) and triglycerides (p = 0.022) were significantly lower in the low-dose CW group than in the placebo group after 8 weeks. In a subgroup of participants with LDL-C≥ 150 mg/dL (n = 33), there was a significant decrease in total cholesterol (low-dose, p = 0.012; high-dose, p = 0.021), apolipoprotein B (low-dose, p = 0.022; high-dose, p = 0.016), and cholesteryl ester transfer protein (low-dose, p = 0.037; high-dose, p = 0.016) after 8 weeks of CW. The correlation between changes in total cholesterol and baseline LDL-C levels was significant in the groups that received both doses of CW (low-dose, p = 0.010; high-dose, p = 0.015). These results show that the CW ethanolic extract can regulate blood cholesterol in subjects with LDL-C≥ 150 mg/dL.

Background.Dyslipidemia has been well-known as a common metabolic disorder contributing to cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of thePinus koraiensisneedle extracts (PKE) on the blood cholesterol and oxidative stress.Method.We conducted a 12-week randomized, double-blinded controlled trial to examine the effect of PKE on blood lipid profiles in adults with borderline dyslipidemia. Thirty-three eligible persons were recruited and randomly assigned into PKE (n=20) and placebo groups (n=13). Serum lipids including total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein- (LDL-) cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein- (HDL-) cholesterol, very low-density lipoprotein- (VLDL-) cholesterol, and triglyceride were measured before and after trial. Serum insulin, glucose, and antioxidant indicators were also analyzed before and after trial and anthropometry and blood pressure were measured every 4 weeks.Results.After 12 weeks, PKE statically significant decreases in systolic blood pressure (p<0.05) and waist circumference (p<0.05) were observed. Also, VLDL-cholesterol significantly decreased (from24.4±10.0 mg/dL at baseline to18.4±4.1 mg/dL after 12 weeks) (p<0.05) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) increased (6.12±0.41 U/mL to9.06±0.62 U/mL) (p<0.01) in PKE group. However, after adjustment with WC, VLDL-cholesterol was not significant between groups (p=0.095) and while SOD remained significant between groups (p=0.013).Conclusion.The results show that PKE was effective in improving the superoxide dismutase in the individuals with borderline dyslipidemia.

An atherogenic diet induces oxidative stress leading to hypercholesterolemia. This condition causes atherosclerosis followed by increased LDL and MDA. Sorghum tempeh contains fiber and antioxidants that can protectively improve LDL and MDA levels. Therefore, this research aims to determine the effect of sorghum tempeh on LDL and MDA levels in atherogenic diet-induced rats compared to sorghum flour. It used a randomized pre-post test with a control group design. The test subjects were 30 male Sprague Dawley rats, consisting of 6 normal conditioned rats (C1), and 24 that were induced by an atherogenic diet (C2, T1, T2, T3) for 2 weeks. Sorghum flour was administered at a dose of 4.095 g (T1) and the sorghum tempeh at 3.041 g (T2) and 6.081 g (T3) for 4 weeks. Furthermore, C2 was constantly induced through an atherogenic diet. Total cholesterol and LDL levels were then analyzed using the CHOD-PAP method, and MDA levels, using the ELISA method. Meanwhile, statistical analysis for these variables was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics 21 software. The results showed that the administration of sorghum flour and tempeh significantly reduced total cholesterol, LDL, MDA levels in each group (p = 0.001). Furthermore, it showed that there was a significantly strong correlation between LDL and MDA levels before and after treatment (r = 0.610, r = 0.805, and p = 0.001). The administration of sorghum tempeh at a dose of 6.081 g caused the greatest reduction (∆) in LDL levels at -44.19 ±2.58 mg.dL-1, although, it was not the same as normal control. Meanwhile, sorghum flour at a dose of 4.095 g was the most influential in reducing MDA levels to the same as normal control with delta (∆) at -7.67 ±0.37 ng.mL-1. In conclusion, sorghum tempeh and flour were the most effective at reducing LDL and MDA levels, respectively.

This study aims to know and determine the lipid profile in patients with hyperlipidemia who consumed Generic Simvastatin comparedwith its patent product contained in the Formularium at Sanglah Hospital. The observations made, were the measurement of the totalcholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) before and after the drug administration. A total of 30 subjects who met the inclusioncriteria, were divided into two (2) groups, each group consist of 15 persons, the first group was given 20 mg generic Simvastatin(1 tablet daily) for 15 days and Group II given 20 mg patent Simvastatin (1 tablet daily) for 15 day. After 15 days, their blood sampleswere taken and examined for total cholesterol and LDL. Once the data were collected, statistical analysis was done by using the normalitytest, homogeneity and t. Statistical analysis using p-value less than or equal to 0.05 was the limit of significance. The statistical analysisshowed that the data was normally distributed and homogeneous (p≥0.05). The T-test showed that there were significant differencesin the levels of total cholesterol and LDL serum samples before and after the administration of generic simvastatin and patents the(sig.=0.000). However, there was no significant difference in decreased levels of totall cholesterol samples between the generic Simvastatinand patent (sig=0.365 with α=0.05 level). Besides this, there was also no significant difference in the decreased levels of LDL betweengeneric Simvastatin and the patent one (sig=0.372 with α=0.05 level).

Purpose – This paper aims to evaluate the effect of depolymerised glucomannan in regulating blood lipid and glucose concentrations. Design/methodology/approach – Twenty adult volunteers were recruited. Blood samples were taken at Day 0. The volunteers consumed drinks containing 3.0 g active glucomannan hydrolysates (AMH) for 14 days, after which time blood samples were retaken (Day 15). Blood samples were analysed to determine the blood lipid and glucose concentrations. Findings – The average fasting blood glucose at the start of the trial was 2.54 mmol/L but reduced slightly to 2.49 mmol/L after consumption of the glucomannan. The total average cholesterol at the start of the trial was higher (6.69 mmol/L) than desirable ( < 5.0 mmol/L). This was reduced after consuming the glucomannan to 6.44 mmol/L (3.74 per cent). The triglyceride content was also higher initially than recommended (2.88 mmol/L) but was reduced by 11.5 per cent. The high-density lipoprotein (HDL) was within the desirable range before and after consumption (1.57 and 1.52 mmol/L, respectively), while the average low-density lipoprotein (LDL) was higher than recommended ( < 3.0 mmol/L), representing 4.55 mmol/L and 4.40 mmol/L before and after consumption, respectively. Both parameters were reduced by over 3.0 per cent. The consumption of the glucomannan hydrolysates also reduced the total cholesterol/HDL and LDL/HDL ratios. Originality/value – The AMH was effective in lowering blood cholesterol and glucose concentrations. Consumption of such carbohydrates could prove useful for these physiological disorders. Further studies are desirable to characterise the exact mechanism.

Introduction: Family Planning is a national strategy of Indonesia government to manage the population growth. Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA) is one of injectable contraceptives most widely used because it is simple and easy to obtain. However, it has various side effects causing imbalance of hormone estrogen, in turns to result in a decrease in HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) and an increase in LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) which will result in an increase in total cholesterol. It will also affect changes in fat metabolism in human body due to hormonal influences. This results in dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis. Method: The method in this study is an experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. Results: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between duration of use of DMPA injections with lipid profile levels in mice. The data were analyzed by using the Paired t-test parametric test to compare between treatment groups. This study found that there were significant differences in HDL levels and total cholesterol levels between before and after administration of DMPA injections on the 14th and 35th days. There is a significant relationship between the duration of administration of DMPA injections with HDL levels and total cholesterol levels in mice. However, there was no difference in LDL levels and triglyceride levels between before and after administration of DMPA injection on day of 14 and day of 35, while, there was a significant difference between before and after the 35th day. There is no relationship between duration of administration of DMPA injections with LDL levels, while there is a relationship among mice triglycerides. Conclusions: Administration of DMPA injections for a long time lowers HDL.

Lipid adalah kelompok molekul alami yang berperan penting sebagai bahan bakar metabolisme, stabilitas membran sel dan komponen penting pada struktur sel didalam tubuh. Penelitian profil lipid ikan gelodok dilakukan dengan pemeriksaan kolesterol total, trigliserida, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), dan Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisa profil lipid yang ada pada ikan gelodok (Periothalmodon schlosseri) di perairan desa Kuala Lupak dan desa Tanipah, Kalimantan Selatan. Rancangan penelitian dilakukan secara eksploratif dengan menentukan lokasi pengambilan sampel. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang dilakukan adalah purposive sampling atau pengambilan sampel secara isidental berdasarkan pertimbangan heterogenitas lokasi sampel. Pemeriksaan profil lipid dilakukan dengan metode enzimatik. Hasil yang diperoleh pada penelitian ini yaitu profil lipid ikan timpakul pada perairan desa Tanipah mengandung kolesterol total sebanyak 101.17±36.06 mg/dL, HDL Kolesterol 26.5±7.06 mg/dL, LDL Kolesterol 50±26.9 mg/dL dan trigliserida sebanyak 134.8±146.07 mg/dL, sedangkan hasil profil lipid pada desa Kuala Lupak mengandung kolesterol total sebanyak 76.09±25.7 mg/dL, HDL Kolesterol 24±11.3 mg/dL, LDL Kolesterol 27.8±16.2 mg/dL, dan trigliserida 97.3±90.2 mg/dL, berdasarkan hasil yang didapatkan mengindikasikan bahwa kadar profil lipid pada ikan gelodok memiliki nilai yang lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan nilai kadar normal ikan pada umumnya.Lipids are a group of natural molecules that important role as fuel metabolism, cell membrane stability and important components of cell structure in the body. The research of lipid fish lipid profiles was carried out by examining total cholesterol, triglycerides, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). This research aims to determine and analyze the existing lipid profile in the gelodok (Periothalmodon schlosseri) in the waters of Kuala Lupak and Tanipah villages, South Kalimantan. The research design was carried out exploratively by determining the location of sampling. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling based on consideration of heterogeneity of sample locations. Lipid profile examination was carried out using an enzymatic method. The results obtained in this study are the lipid profile of the lead fish in the waters of Tanipah village containing total cholesterol as much as 101.17 ± 36.06 mg / dL, HDL Cholesterol 26.5 ± 7.06 mg / dL, LDL Cholesterol 50 ± 26.9 mg / dL and triglycerides as much as 134.8 ± 146.07 mg / dL, while the results of the lipid profile in Kuala Lupak village contained 76.09 ± 25.7 mg / dL total cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol 24 ± 11.3 mg / dL, Cholesterol LDL 27.8 ± 16.2 mg / dL, and triglycerides 97.3 ± 90.2 mg / dL, based on the results obtained indicate that the lipid profile level in the mackerel fish has a lower value than the normal value of fish in general.Keywords: lipid, Perithalmodon schlosseri, total cholesterol, Lipoprotein, Triglycerides


Dyslipidemia and oxidative modifications of lipid are frequently associated in patients with chronic kidney diseases (CKD) and considered the most important risk factors for cardiovascular events. Melatonin is a well-known potent antioxidant and has beneficial effect on lipid metabolism. the study was designed to evaluate if Melatonin could improve lipid profile and ameliorates lipid peroxidation. This single blind placebo controlled clinical study carried out on 41 patients with CKD who were randomized into two groups, control groups (n=20) those who received placebo cap and melatonin group those who received 5mg melatonin (n=21). Lipid profile [total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C)] and parameters of lipid peroxidation [oxidized LDL (oxLDL) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured before and after 12 weeks of the treatment. After 12 weeks of treatment, melatonin significantly increased HDL-C and decreased LDL-C compared to the initial value. The elevation in HDL-C and reduction in LDL-C were significantly different from that in placebo group. Also, both oxLDL and MDA levels significantly lowered by melatonin compared to the baseline and to the placebo group. Collectively, the results of our study showed that melatonin has advantageous effect on lipid profile and inhibit lipid peroxidation in patients with CKD.
