This study aims to know and determine the lipid profile in patients with hyperlipidemia who consumed Generic Simvastatin comparedwith its patent product contained in the Formularium at Sanglah Hospital. The observations made, were the measurement of the totalcholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) before and after the drug administration. A total of 30 subjects who met the inclusioncriteria, were divided into two (2) groups, each group consist of 15 persons, the first group was given 20 mg generic Simvastatin(1 tablet daily) for 15 days and Group II given 20 mg patent Simvastatin (1 tablet daily) for 15 day. After 15 days, their blood sampleswere taken and examined for total cholesterol and LDL. Once the data were collected, statistical analysis was done by using the normalitytest, homogeneity and t. Statistical analysis using p-value less than or equal to 0.05 was the limit of significance. The statistical analysisshowed that the data was normally distributed and homogeneous (p≥0.05). The T-test showed that there were significant differencesin the levels of total cholesterol and LDL serum samples before and after the administration of generic simvastatin and patents the(sig.=0.000). However, there was no significant difference in decreased levels of totall cholesterol samples between the generic Simvastatinand patent (sig=0.365 with α=0.05 level). Besides this, there was also no significant difference in the decreased levels of LDL betweengeneric Simvastatin and the patent one (sig=0.372 with α=0.05 level).

Objective: Ulcerative colitis is a type of inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder characterized by intestinal inflammation and mucosal tissue damage. We examined the lipid profile levels in murine model of 7,12 Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene induced ulcerative colitis.Methods: Serum was separated from whole blood and was used to determine the lipid profile such as total cholesterol (TC), phospholipids (PL), triglycerides (TG), free fatty acids, high density lipoprotein (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein (HDL-C).Results: Ulcerative colitis rats exhibit low level of low density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol. No significant difference was observed in high density lipoprotein and triglycerides and significant difference was observed in phospholipids and free fatty acid serum levels. This communication highlights the lipid profile that occurs in ulcerative colitis.Conclusion: This study, thus, provides valuable information about the disturbances in the lipids and lipoproteins occur in ulcerative colitis.Keywords: Ulcerative colitis, 7,12-Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene, Lipoprotein, Low-density lipoprotein, Phospholipids.

The present case control study was designed to determined the relationship between serum Total cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Triglycerides (TG) and Body Mass Index (BMI). The study was carried out in the Department of Biochemistry Chittagong Medical College during the period of January 2010- December 2010. Samples were collected from population of different area of Chittagong City Corporation of different occupations, age from 35- 60 years. The data were collected by a structured questionaries which includes age, sex, occupation, dietary habits, family history of hyperlipidemia and DM. BMI was calculated by standardized protocol. Population suffering from DM, renal diseases and other endocrine disease were excluded. A total of 105 subjects were included in this study. Among them 70 were considered as case ( whose BMI was 25 kg/m2) and 35 were considered as control ( whose BMI was < 25 Kg/ m2).Serum Total cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C and TG were measured in all samples in fasting state. Study showed that female were more obese than male,( 31.14 +2.23kg/m2 Vs 29.71 +2.69kg/mo), p= <0.05.Results showed that Serum TC(45%), LDL-C(65%), TG(70%) were significantly higher in cases than that of controls (p=<0.001).Serum HDL-C(35%) was significantly decreased in cases than that of controls (p=<0.001).Study showed that hypertriglyceridemia (70%) was the common lipid abnormality and then LDL-C (65%). Study revealed that there was no significant difference in lipid profile between male and female. Pearson's Correlation Coefficient showed that there were positive correlation between TC (r=0.234,p=<0.05), LDL-C (r=0.258,p=<0.01), TG (r=0.409,p=<0.001) and BMI, and was negative correlation between HDL-C(r= -0.403, p= <0.001) and BMI. So early detection and prevention of obesity and abnormal lipid profile can largely reduce morbidity and mortality and alleviate undue burden on our limited health budget. Introduction: Family Planning is a national strategy of Indonesia government to manage the population growth. Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA) is one of injectable contraceptives most widely used because it is simple and easy to obtain. However, it has various side effects causing imbalance of hormone estrogen, in turns to result in a decrease in HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) and an increase in LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) which will result in an increase in total cholesterol. It will also affect changes in fat metabolism in human body due to hormonal influences. This results in dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis. Method: The method in this study is an experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. Results: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between duration of use of DMPA injections with lipid profile levels in mice. The data were analyzed by using the Paired t-test parametric test to compare between treatment groups. This study found that there were significant differences in HDL levels and total cholesterol levels between before and after administration of DMPA injections on the 14th and 35th days. There is a significant relationship between the duration of administration of DMPA injections with HDL levels and total cholesterol levels in mice. However, there was no difference in LDL levels and triglyceride levels between before and after administration of DMPA injection on day of 14 and day of 35, while, there was a significant difference between before and after the 35th day. There is no relationship between duration of administration of DMPA injections with LDL levels, while there is a relationship among mice triglycerides. Conclusions: Administration of DMPA injections for a long time lowers HDL.

ABSTRACT Introduction Obesity is emerging as an epidemic worldwide. Obesity is associated with a number of comorbid conditions, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cancer, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular abnormalities, anemia, obstructive sleep apnea, and psychosocial abnormalities. Aim This study aims at comparing the lipid profile levels of obese and nonobese men. Materials and methods This was a case—control study conducted at a tertiary care center. Totally, 80 men in the age group of 20 to 47 years attending the master health checkup were included in the study, out of which 40 men with normal body mass index (BMI) of 18 to 25 belonged to group I and 40 men with increased BMI of 30 and above belonged to group II. Lipid profile parameters, such as triglycerides (TGLs), total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol were estimated in them. The data were statistically analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 15.0. Results Statistically significant difference was found in the total cholesterol levels with a p-value of 0.040 while the difference in LDL cholesterol was statistically highly significant with a p-value of 0.040. Conclusion Among lipid profile parameters, only total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol showed significant difference between the obese and nonobese individuals. Background. Changes in lipid profile are commonly reported in adult patients with malaria. However, a few studies evaluated lipid abnormalities in children continuously exposed toP. vivax.Objective. To evaluate lipid abnormalities in children withP. vivaxinfection and to assess if parasite count or the history of malaria correlates with lipid levels at admission.Methods. A total of 75 children were included in the study, from which 43 were slide confirmed infection byP. vivax. Serial blood samples were collected at admission and, on days 7 and 14, evaluated for the colorimetric measurements of triglycerides, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL).Results. The levels of total cholesterol, LDL, and HDL were significantly lower in malaria cases. The levels of VLDL and triglycerides were significantly higher in children with malaria. Such changes were transient and were not associated with parasite counting as well as with the history of malaria of patients.Conclusion. There are significant lipid abnormalities in children with low level ofP. vivaxinfection and mild signs and symptoms of the disease, which are not associated with parasitaemia and previous episodes of disease.

Tea Benalu (Scurrula atropurpurea [Bl.] Dans.) and Mango Benalu (Dendrophthoe pentandra L. miq.) containssecondary metabolites with potential antioxidant potential. Antioxidants can inhibit the oxidation process and reduce Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and increase High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL). The safety of the preparations for the combination of parasites of tea and mango leaves was tested to obtain toxic effects after repeated treatment tests over some time. The purpose of this study was to determine the toxic effects of a combination of methanolic extracts of a combination of tea parasites and mangoes in female rats (Rattus norvegicus) subchronically for 28 days by looking at the results of the clinical biochemical examination on lipid profiles, namely total cholesterol levels, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteins (28%). HDL), and Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL). The method of this study was experimental with a combination dose of methanol extract of tea parasite leaves and mango parasite leaves at a dose of 250 mg / KgBB, 500 mg / KgBB and 1000 mg / KgBB with 5x replications each treatment. The subjects used white rats (Rattus norvegicus) female Wistar strains aged 6-8 weeks with a minimum body weight of 100 grams. The treatment in this study was in the form of each dose given 5 times a week for 28 days (subchronic toxicity test) orally. Lipid profile levels were analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test. The results showed that the level of control blood lipid profile with a treatment dose of 250 mg / KgBW, 500 mg / KgBW, and 1000 mg / KgBW was not significantly different. The toxicity test of combined extracts of tea leaves and mango parasite leaves of female rat Rattus novergicus on subchronic exposure 28 days with those doses showed no difference tangible between treatments of controls. Metode penelitian ini adalah eksperimental dengan perlakuan dosis kombinasi ekstrak metanol daun benalu teh dan daun benalu mangga dosis 250 mg/KgBB, 500 mg/KgBB dan 1000 mg/KgBB dengan ulangan 5x tiap perlakuan. Subjek menggunakan tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) betina strain wistar yang berumur 6-8 minggu dengan berat badan minimal 100 gram. Perlakuan dalam penelitian ini berupa setiap dosis  diberikan 5 kali seminggu selama 28 hari (uji toksisitas subkronik) secara per-oral. Kadar profil lipid dianalisis menggunakan uji One-way ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar profil lipid darah kontrol dengan perlakuan dosis 250 mg/KgBB, 500 mg/KgBB dan 1000 mg/KgBB tidak berbeda nyata. Uji”toksisitas”ekstrak kombinasi daun benalu teh dan daun benalu mangga  tikus betina Rattus novergicus pada paparan subkronik 28 hari dengan”dosis”tersebut menunjukkan hasil tidak”beda”nyata antara perlakuan terhadap”kontrol. ”Hal ini berarti aman dan tidak menimbulkan sifat toksik pada profil lipid tikus wistar betina.Kata Kunci : Profil Lipid, Scurrula atropurpurea, Dendophthoe pentandra, Subkronik, Rattus norvegicus

Overweight and obesity in youth is a worldwide public health problem. Predisposition to obesity starts during the first or second decade of life. Overweight and obesity in adolescents have a substantial effect upon many systems, resulting in clinical conditions such as metabolic syndrome, early atherosclerosis, dyslipidaemia, hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our study was done to find the relation between body mass index (BMI) and lipid profile in young adults (18-20 years) and for the correlation between the various parameters. 150 young adults between 18-20 years of age, who gave written voluntary consent were included in the study. BMI was calculated after measuring height and weight along with fasting blood samples for estimation of blood glucose and lipid profile [Total cholesterol, High density lipoprotein (HDL), Low density lipoprotein (LDL), Very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and triacylglycerol (TGL)] were measured. The data collected was analysed using Statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) statistics software version 20. A linear correlation regression analysis was done to know the correlation between the anthropometric measurements and biochemical parameters. ANOVA test was performed to know the significance and a p value of < 0.01 was taken as significant. All the biochemical parameters showed a positive correlation with BMI. Total cholesterol had the highest positive correlation with BMI. There was a prevalence of 39.3% overweight/obesity as per BMI cut-off. Individuals who were in the obese category had a higher prevalence of abnormal lipid profile especially total cholesterol. Stress and lack of physical activity have a detrimental effect on health and are a major risk factor for development of obesity. 90% of the students in this study did not have any regular physical activity. Educating the students about effects of obesity and dyslipidaemia on quality of health can help in bringing life style modifications which can help them in the long run.

Introduction: In haemodialysis patients, mortality from cardiovascular disease is much greater than in the general population. The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of two different types of heparin, low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) and high molecular weight heparin (HMWH), on lipid profile in patients undergoing haemodialysis.Material & Methods: A total of 60 patients on haemodialysis were selected from two main hospitals of Lahore, Pakistan and were divided into two major groups based on the type of heparin used. A 5 ml blood sample was taken from the dialysis machine to get the serum and was kept frozen at -20ºC for analysis of total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, and low-density lipoprotein. Comparison of lipoprotein lipase activity between groups were evaluated by using the student t-test. A P-value of ? 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: Gender wise distribution of study population (n=60) was 67% (n=40) males and 33% (n=20) females. The age distribution of individuals varied from 39-43 years. Moreover, use of HMWH was high in males (73%) as compared to female (27%) with an average age of 39 ± 12 years where duration of haemodialysis was 4.44 ± 2.83. A significant difference in LPL activity related to different times in all patients was observed. A clearer difference observed in case of LDL where LPL activity was markedly different in both groups. Our data showed that individuals using LMWH had less chances of dyslipidaemia as compared to those using HMWH.Conclusion: LMWH is a useful and safe anticoagulant during haemodialysis as compared to HMWH.

Abstract Background: Fatty liver disease is a common and major chronic liver disease. It has been implicated that patients have disorders of lipid metabolism and involved in the pathogenesis of fatty liver. Lipid profile plays a very important role in diagnosis of liver diseases hence it was designed to observe relationship between lipid profile and fatty liver disease (FLD) based on ultrasonography (USG).Method and methodology: This Cross-sectional and analytical study was undertaken in the Department of Internal Medicine with collaboration of Department of Radiology and Department of Biochemistry, Universal College of Medical Sciences-Teaching Hospital (UCMS-TH), Bhairahawa, Nepal from March 2019 to February 2020 in total 100 patients diagnosed with FLD by USG.Result: In 100 cases, the male to female ratio was 1.8:1. 56% of the total cases presented with alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD) while remaining 44% with non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The spectrum of lipid abnormality was observed with increased total cholesterol (TC), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), increased triglycerides (TG) and Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) in AFLD cases as compared to NAFLD cases. However, it has been observed that TG/HDL and Non-HDL/HDL were higher in NAFLD as compared to AFLD. There was statistical significant difference in HDL (p-value: 0.019) between alcoholic fatty liver disease grade 1 (AFLG1) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease grade 1 (NAFLG1). Moreover, it was observed statistical significant difference in HDL between AFLG2 and NAFLG2 (p-value: 0.012).Conclusion:Elevated level of TG and decreased HDL has been implicated in the precipitation of the occlusive vascular disease. These parameters in conjunction with Non-HDL/HDL and TG/HDL can be useful in early screening and monitoring of dyslipidemia in the fatty liver patients to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Lipid profile comparative analysis was performed to reveal the interdependence of lipids with Circadian locomoter output cycles protein kaput (CLOCK) 3111T/C gene polymorphism in menopausal women with/without a body mass index (BMI) of ≥25 kg/m2. Methods: A total of 193 female volunteers aged 45 to 60 years were divided into two groups: Those with BMI < 25 kg/m2 (control) and those with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2. Each group was then divided into two subgroups: Those with the CLOCK TT-genotype and those with the CLOCK TC-, CC-genotypes. Lipid metabolism parameters were determined by the enzymatic method. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected via polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism technology. Results: There were no differences in CLOCK 3111T/C genotypes or allele frequency between the control and main groups. In addition, there were no differences in lipid profile parameters between women of the control group and different CLOCK 3111T/C genotypes. The total cholesterol (p = 0.041) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (p = 0.036) levels were higher in the subgroup of women with a BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2 and CLOCK TT-genotype as compared to the subgroup with a BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2 and minor allele 3111C. Conclusions: SNP 3111T/C of the CLOCK gene is not associated with BMI however, data suggest that the minor allele of the CLOCK 3111T/C gene polymorphism may have a protective role in atherogenic lipid levels in women with a BMI greater than or equal to 25 kg/m2.
