This study empirically investigates the nexus between Casualization and Employee Morale in the Oil industry, using Shell Companies in Nigeria (SCiN) as a case study. The ‘Convenience Sampling Technique’ was used to assess the sample size of 200 employees. Data was analyzed via Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient, with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 27. The Findings revealed that: Casualization is significantly related to Employee Morale. It was concluded that all dimensions of the exogenous variable should be encouraged. All of which is to achieve high employee morale. Thus, the study recommends that: Management should allow casual workers access to certain perks and benefits such as: health benefits, performance bonuses, transportation allowances, etc. and they also should be allowed to have a workers' union for collective bargaining, sustained compensation policies, work on reducing stigmatization and focus on improving work conditions in order to achieve ‘high’ employee morale.

Perception of the roles necessary for managerial success based on the 10 verbal descriptors of the Mintzberg roles were gathered from 128 business students at a southern U.S. university. The objective was to assess whether these 72 men and 56 women viewed the importance of the roles differently. Ratings were collected on the 10 roles for each of four different types of managers. The data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance, chi-squared analysis, and Spearman rank-order correlation. No differences were observed in the perception of men and women in these roles or of their relative importance.

BACKGROUND: Dyspnea, or difficult breathing, is common in patients receiving mechanical ventilation; however, dyspnea is not routinely or systematically measured. OBJECTIVE: The primary purpose of this methodological study was to evaluate the test-retest reliability of 5 dyspnea rating scales and the criterion validity of 4 dyspnea rating scales in patients receiving mechanical ventilation. The secondary purpose was to examine the correlations between each of these 5 rating scales and physiological measures of respiratory function. METHODS: The convenience sample consisted of 28 patients on mechanical ventilation during their hospitalization in the intensive care units of a large, inner-city hospital. Patients rated their dyspnea twice at 30-minute intervals on the visual analogue scale, the vertical analogue dyspnea scale, the modified Borg scale, the numerical scale, and the faces scale. Test-retest reliability was computed by using the intraclass correlation coefficient. Criterion validity was evaluated by using the Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient. RESULTS: The 5 rating scales had acceptable test-retest reliabilities, with intraclass correlation coefficients ranging from 0.81 to 0.97. Criterion validity of the 4 scales also was acceptable, with Spearman rank-order correlation coefficients from 0.76 to 0.96. The rating scales were not correlated with most of the physiological variables. At least half of the patients reported moderate to severe dyspnea. CONCLUSION: The scales showed acceptable reliability and validity, and they will be useful in quantifying dyspnea experienced by patients receiving mechanical ventilation. Further work is needed to evaluate the extent and the severity of dyspnea in such patients in order to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

This study attempts to identify the key factors inhibiting the bribery practices of multinational enterprise (MNE) subsidiaries directed at local managers in China. During the experiment, this study employs an institutional theory, identifies primary determinants on the phenomenon, and compares the main components between old versus young subsidiaries. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey and both regression and spearman rank order correlation analyses were used as statistical techniques. Through the analyses, we found that a cognitive pillar is a crucial element contributing to the inhibition of bribery practices, the enhancement of institutional quality, and the promotion of sustainable development in the emerging economy. We expect that the results will provide useful implications for MNE managers planning to invest in China and for policy makers enacting institutional environments.

Trigonometry, a discipline in mathematics, is often misunderstood by mathematics learners. To understand Trigonometry, students should start learning from understanding Mathematical concepts. Therefore, this study aims to analyze students' understanding of concepts in the Trigonometry course. This research is a qualitative descriptive study of the first semester students' conceptual understanding of the mathematics education study program at a university in Malang City. The data collected in this study consisted of the subject's work and transcripts of interviews. The instrument used in this study consisted of 6 questions about understanding the concept of trigonometric material. Analysis of the subject's work results is carried out to find out the right or wrong answers. Meanwhile, the interview transcripts were analyzed by coding to determine the factors that support conceptual understanding. The results showed that students with good conceptual understanding could solve trigonometric problems, while students with less understanding of concepts had difficulty solving trigonometric problems. The results of this study also found aspects that influence (encourage and inhibit) students in understanding the concept of trigonometry. Furthermore, this research is expected to contribute to trigonometry subjects' learning based on indicators of conceptual understanding in the Trigonometry course.

ABSTRACTObjectiveThe premise of our study was to investigate the characteristics of family medicine (FM) manuscripts that predicted to affect its citation rate.DesignWe conducted a cross-sectional study of published articles (n = 191), from January to June 2008, from 6 major FM journals with the highest impact factor. Annals of Family Medicine (IF = 1.864), British Journal of General Medicine (1.104), Journal of American Board of Family Medicine (1.015), Family Practice (0.976), BMC Family Practice (0.815) and Canadian Family Physicians (0.283). Citation counts for these articles were retrieved using Web of Science filter on SCImago and 26 article characteristics were tabulated manually. We then predicted the citation rate by performing univariate analysis, spearman rank-order correlation, and multiple regression model on the collected variables.ResultsUsing spearman rank-order correlation, we found the following variables to have significant positive correlation with citations: number of references (rs and p-value, 0.21529 and 0.0028 respectively), total words (0.22979, 0.0014), number of pages (0.22124, 0.0021), study design in title (0.03, 0.0001), structured abstract (0.06, 0.005), and open access (0.03, 0.003). In a multivariate linear regression model, the following variables predicted increased citation rates (p < 0.001, R2 = 0.38): reporting of study design in the title, structured abstract and open access.ConclusionEditors and authors of FM can enhance the impact of their journals and articles by utilizing this bibliometric study when assembling their manuscript.
