ABSTRACT: Character education in Islam has its own style, as well as the character values con- tained in various learning media for early childhood. This study is a follow-up study to find the effect of Movie Media with Islamic Character Values (M-ICV) in shaping "Ahlaqul Karimah" in early childhood. Using an experimental method with a control class, which involved 19 respondents of early childhood. Data shows that the ttest < t table (0.75 < 2.110), meaning that there is a significant difference in effect between the experimental class and the control class. The results conclude that M-ICV is able to form a child's "Ahlakul Karimah" slowly, because the child likes various movies with content interesting and easy to imitate. The implications of further research on movie content development for children are able to develop other aspects of children's development. The objectives of national education are realizing the fair and prosper society in term of material and spiritual based on the value of Pancasila, in which the main point is developing Indonesian citizens wholly. One of the most important components of Indonesian citizens is children, because they are the owner of the nation’s future. Thus, it could be said that the implantation of self-concept, moral, and religious values should be started earlier, so that it would be strongly implanted on Indonesian children. One of the methods is storytelling with woman heroes and public figures, whether they are from Indonesia or Islamic history. The consideration in choosing the woman heroes and public figures is as a form of moral education, introducing Islamic religious values, as well as gender education on children. This becomes important because of Indonesian’s social life which is full of various religions, cultures, tribes, race or ethnics, social status and others. The storytelling process as a form of learning media is expected to be applied in kindergarten (TK), Islamic Kindergarten (RA), or elementary school           Keywords: storytelling, character education, children, moral education, gender education

The picture-story book that emphasize character values in accordance with the vision and mission of Santa Theresia Jakarta Kindergarten is very urgent to develop, because at school, character education books are not available with the value of servite et amate. This was revealed by a teacher through an interview. Based on observations, it was also found that there was indeed no character education book that was in accordance with the school's vision and mission. Character education or moral education in the present context, really needs to be taught and developed, so that children's morals can be formed early. Picture-story book is a book in which there are stories, characters, grooves, backgrounds, themes that are expressed in the form of writings and images that become one unit. Through reading books, it is easier for children to understand the contents and practical examples to apply the character values that they want to teach. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods. The qualitative descriptive is an attempt to explain facts, data, or objects qualitatively in the form of language or discourse by interpreting them appropriately and systematically. Data collection techniques used were interview and observations. This research was conducted at the Santa Theresia Jakarta Kindergarten. The results of the study indicated that picture-story books that were in accordance with the values of servite et amate needed to be created and developed, in order to help children in early childhood easily understood examples of character actions that must be performed. Therefore, schools need to facilitate and fully support, so that kindergarten teachers are given space and opportunities to develop pictorial story books. Degradation of moral consciousness, especially in the politic and Indonesian government bureaucracy, in recent times that was pictured by various anomalies and immorality, such as a corruption, has become a negative “cultural norm”, which seem very difficult to be controlled. The condition of national spirit and morality suggested the need of redevelopment of model of character education (character building) as a national healing. Imam Zarkasyi implemented several principles of character building in the Pesantren of Darussalam Gontor. He taught his pupils on the basis of the virtues of the excellences with refer to the Panca Jiwa and the Four Mottos of Modernity of the Pesantren as their living values. His reformative efforts in the context of contemporary Islamic education are actually intended to the development of character, in other words, “character building”, by implementing the principle of the Golden Mean of Ibn Miskawaih. Some aspects of Zarkasyi's principles of education that might be supportive for developing the national character education program, and still relevant for today are: firstly, moral education should have the leadership insights; secondly, moral education should have the objective moral values as the teleological purposes; thirdly, moral education should be built through the best environment, in order to be optimized and efficient; and fourthly, moral education curriculum should be integrated and comprehensive. So, the Zarkasyi's concept of character building, and the education movement became the concept of character education that quite mature and should be extracted by our nation.

Early childhood education (PAUD) is a social institution that serves to instill cultural, national, and religious values in children. While the existing literatures on PAUD are more focused on the role of social institutions and formal educational institutions in the formation of children (school environment, learning process and community supporting the process), this article focuses on the process of enculturation in applying "Islamic" values in the learning process at TK Wihdatul Ummah. This study was conducted at TK Wihdatul Ummah. Using ethnographic approach, data was collcted using in-depth interview ansd observation. The study involved ten informants who are varied on the basis of age (between 27 and 69 years), and status, consisting of a school principals, three teachers, five parents and a student’ guardian. The study shows that TK Wihdatul Ummah has succeeded in carrying out Wahdah Islamiyah's main mission in the field of education, mainly in developing young generation from an early age by fostering faith (aqidah), monotheism (tauhid), faith (iman) and good deeds (amal sholeh). Character building based on "Islamic" values is the main orientation that is encultured by TK Wihdatul Ummah to early childhood and still refers to the PAUD National Curriculum. TK Wihdatul Ummah has been able to transmit an "Islamic" curriculum that focuses on two core competencies, namely to love the Qur'an and the Hadith and practice Islamic values as the character of pious children. Achievement of competence to love the Qur'an and the Hadith is shown in basic competency activities, namely: memorizing the surahs in juz 30 and reciting the Hadiths of the Prophet, taddabur Al-Qur'an and Hadith, studying hijaiyyah letters, and knowing practical worship according to the guidance of the Prophet. While the attainment of the “Islamic” values as the character of pious children, is shown by Islamic behaviour in daily life, and Islamic independent behavior. Students’ learning achievements at TK Wihdatul Ummah include discipline, independence and self-confidence; trust and closeness to the teacher; able to socialize; able to appreciate and understand others; able to understand rewards and punishment; and able to practice Islamic values as sholeh children character. From the emic point of view based on emic perspective (teachers and parents), the achievement in terms of children character building at TK Wihdatul Ummah focuses on religious values (praying independently and according to guidance, worshiping and remembrancing) and morals values (getting used to behaving well, polite, honest, like to give/help and respect) and social emotional values (independence, self-confidence able to socialize, respect and understand others, control themselves naturally, understand the rules and discipline). By studying at TK Wihdatul Ummah, it is not only students, but also parents show significant changes in their everyday behaviour.
