The internalization of character values in the boarding-schools should ideally be designed to answering the challenges of the context of Indonesia as a multicultural country. This study aims to reconstruct the character cultivation through the multicultural boarding school system as an internalization model of marine leadership characters. This study employed a single-holistic case study in a Senior High School of Taruna Nala, East Java, Indonesia, that implemented a boarding school system. The data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentary analysis, and the results was presented interactively. The data sources studied were determined by purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The data validity was tested with four criteria: credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability. This study found that the character of maritime leadership is the reponsive (tanggap), tough (tanggon), and agile (trengginas) as unique-intelligent characters that must be mastered by senior high schools in Indonesia as a maritime country. To make it happens, the internalization of character values can be done through a cultivation model, like in planting, consisting of: (1) determining the goals, (2) the seeds selection, (3) land cultivation, (4) planting the seeds, (5) maintenance, and (6) fertilization. The model is carried out in full through the boarding system education system.

Purpose The concept of terroir is institutionalized through geographical indications (GIs) in large parts of the wine-producing world. GIs in wine are associated with certain taste characteristics. Mosel wine is said to be slender and fresh. However, external sources of pressure are recognized as challenging this notion. The purpose of this paper is to explore the narrative construction of Mosel wine and how institutions, markets and climate are presented as having implications for its taste. Design/methodology/approach Ethnographic fieldwork was carried out over ten weeks during the fall of 2016, consisting of three weeks of participant observation and 12 in-depth interviews. Post-fieldwork, data were interpreted as collective narratives. Additionally, a wide range of written sources on Mosel wine has been analyzed. Findings It is found that a development toward big-bodied wines was considered a threat to the region’s stylistic image, in which light-bodied wines represented the cornerstone. Consequently, this had triggered introspection and greater discursive attentiveness to “lightness” to preserve the credibility and identity of Mosel as a GI. Findings show that these aesthetic controversies functioned to recreate and consolidate the notion of Mosel wine and its sense of terroir. Originality/value Focusing on how taste in wine is narratively produced, this paper utilizes an inductive approach rarely employed within terroir research.

This study is aimed at analyzing multicultural education in salaf (traditional) pesantren, that is appropriate and be able to prevent the growth and development of religious radicalism in Indonesia. The study is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach involving four salaf pesantrens in Java; namely Al-Qadir Pesantren of Sleman Yogyakarta, Dar al-Tauhid of Cirebon, Roudlatuth Thalibin of Rembang, and Tebuireng of Jombang. The research data were collected by observation, interviews, documentation, and focus-group discussions (FGD). Data were analyzed using an interactive technique. Findings showed that the forms of multicultural education at the four salaf pesantrens generally have similarities in the application of multiculturalism core values. However, each pesantren has its own specific peculiarities. The various cultures built up by the four caregivers of the salaf pesantrens have been effective to prevent the growth and development of religious radicalism at the  pesantren, particularly, and in the society, more generally.

Every institution has its own way or method of applying character education where the lessons of values, ethics, morals and religious teachings are the main focus. The boarding school has a different educational pattern than the one in general. At the Alimussirry World Boarding School, students have a set of rules that are used in practice in the daily schedule of students. The daily schedule of activities was a means of implementing the practice for the students under the supervision of the lodge managers. All activities have different areas of management to assist and supervise studentsCharacter education is not just about the young budding education process that is tapping into the formation of the school, it is also about the individual within the educational institution. Basically, in order to be a responsible individual in society, each individual must develop a wide range of potentials within himself, especially promoting morals that will serve as a guide for their role models within the institution.
