Long-term researches on the cultivation of vegetable crops with different methods of irrigation in the Volgograd region have shown that their yield was primarily closely related to the improvement of the water regime of the soil. Its efficiency using drip irrigation increased with the introduction of mineral fertilizers, and using subsurface irrigation - with an improvement of the location of the irrigation network. The highest yield of beet with drip irrigation (82.4 t / ha) was obtained with an increase of the Soil Pre-Irrigation Moisture (SPIM) to 85% of Full Moisture Capacity (FMC) and fertilization doses - to N235P140K130 kg/ha. The highest yield of courgettes with drip irrigation of 83.7 t / ha was obtained while maintaining the similar irrigation regime and the quantity of fertilizers N240P99K110 kg/ha.The maximum cabbage yield in our experience with drip irrigation of 83.1 t / ha was achieved using the option that combines the maintenance of the irrigation regime 80-90-80 %FMC with the application of fertilizers at doses of N110P50K140 kg / ha. The highest yield of radish with subsurface irrigation of 79.8 t / ha was obtained while maintaining SPIM 85 % FMC in the field with the location of subsurface humidifiers at a distance of 1.2 m from each other.

The aim of the work is to determine the spatial characteristics of the distribution of the burnt areas of natural zonal landscapes of the Volgograd region with different duration of pyro-factor successions, taking into account the frequency of fires. Based on the previously developed thematic geo-information layers of the steppe fires in the region using overlay operations, the duration of post-pyrogenic periods in the municipal districts of the region was determined, taking into account the total number of fires from 1998–2018. The largest areas covered by fire have a succession duration of 2–3 years and 12–14 years at the beginning of 2019, which corresponds to the fires of 2016–2017 and 2005–2007, respectively. Large areas after the fires of 2001–2002 are located in Ilovlinsky, Kletsky, Pallasovsky and Surovikinsky districts. The largest area of land covered by fire in 2004–2006 is located in the Danilovsky, Ilovlinsky, Olkhovsky and Pallas districts. In our opinion, landscapes affected by fire no more than 5–7 years ago are suitable for the analysis of pyrogenic shifts. These territories are located in Frolovsky, Chernyshkovsky, Kotovsky, Ilovlinsky, Pallasovsky, Leninsky, Kamyshinsky, Staropoltavsky districts. The results will serve as the basis for field studies and the analysis of the spectral characteristics of overgrowing burns from remote sensing materials.

The article gives an assessment of reducing the living standard of the population in rural areas of Russia (a case of the Volgograd region). The analysis of the current state of rural areas was carried out and problems and trends of a decreasing standard of living of the population were identified. The dynamics of the urban and rural population of the Volgograd region has been illustrated in accordance with the data of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation. The conclusions are drawn about the depopulation in the rural areas, natural loss, migration outflows, and the change in the category of settlements. There have been systematized the factors influencing the living standards of the population in rural areas in modern conditions, such as: legal, socio-economic, political, technological, etc. With the help of the Ishikawa diagram, the potential causes of the declining standard of living of the rural population are ordered and aggregated, and the most important factors are identified. The effectiveness and efficiency of the state policy aimed at the long term development of rural areas is assessed. It has been noted that the volume of financing the state program Comprehensive development of rural areas for 2020–2025 will amount to about 2.3 trillion rubles, which is 12 times more than funding of the previous program. Lack of activities and insignificant amount of funding aimed at the development of social infrastructure of modern villages, the development of education and health care were identified by the authors. A set of measures to improve the existing policy for the long term development of rural areas in Russia has been substantiated. The necessity of including the problems of the development of Russian villages into the system of national projects in the Russian Federation has been emphasized.

Aim. The work is devoted to identifying the productivity of pasture landscapes in the Volgograd region. The aim was to determine the direction of trends and the values of the coefficients of proportionality which would permit the definition of areas where the productivity of natural zonal vegetation has increased or decreased from 2000 until today. Material and Methods. Pasture productivity assessment is based on the analysis of the NDVI vegetation index, which is widely used in such studies. For analysis, specific pasture areas were identified in accordance with Global Land Cover, divided into egular grids and given overlays corresponding with the boundaries of municipalities and landscapes. Results. The largest areas of natural zonal pastures are located in the Trans‐Volga region and on the sandy massifs of the Don River valley. About 60% of pasture land has an average weighted average long‐term NDVI value from 0.3 to 0.4, and approximately a quarter – from 0.4 to 0.5. In most parts of the region there are negative NDVI trends. The highest rate of degradation is noted in the Trans‐Volga region. This is associated with larger pasturing loads than in the rest of the region, as well as with the regular occurrence of steppe fires. Conclusion. In summation: the productivity trends of zonal pastures in the Volgograd region have been determined, as have areas with different NDVI directions and dynamics. The application of these results in practice should make it possible to predict pasture productivity in various municipal districts and landscapes of the region, and thus assist in the regulation of pasture loads and the mitigation of risks of vegetation degradation.

The amount of precipitation forms a varied climate type in various zones of the earth’s surface. The purpose of the research is the consideration of the cause, nature, as well as the long-term forecast of precipitation as one of the environmental aspects affecting climate change. Modern analysis determined the factors affecting the distribution of precipitation on the surface of the Earth within the borders of the Volgograd region. Literary materials, data of meteorological stations, research results and observations were used. As a result of the work, the regularity of the cyclicity of precipitation was established on the basis of perennial observations by meteorological stations and is given by the forecast forecast algorithm for the prospect. Several characteristic areas on the trend were identified: periods from 1955 to 1973 (transition cycle), from 1910 to 1951 and from 1973 to 2008 (sharply pronounced cyclic precipitation processes). The main reasons affecting precipitation are determined, this is the state of the lower layers of the atmosphere and the location of the territory Analysis of the trend of falling precipitation indicates the presence of synchronization, periodicity and cyclicity of processes. The forecast of precipitation allows you to simulate river regimes, including the risks of floods, minimizing social and economic losses.
