Abstract On the eastern edge of the Aquitaine Basin, the Lias-Dogger transition and the events, which occurred during this time interval are studied in the Quercy sedimentary basin. Stratigraphic correlations are proposed using a biochronological calibration based on the determination of numerous ammonites and brachiopods. Facies analyses using statistical processing integrate the presence of faults and tectonic compartments and lead to reconstruction of palaeoenvironments in space and time. The paper includes the description of system tracts following Haq et al. [1987] and Vail et al. [1991], and twelve palaeogeographic maps of the area studied. The objectives are to distinguish the various allocyclic and autocyclic factors controlling sedimentation and to show the impact of the Mid-Cimmerian tectonic event on the evolution of the basin.

The bias in the determination of the Hubble parameter and the Hubble constant in the modern Universe is discussed. It could appear due to the statistical processing of data on the redshifts of galaxies and the estimated distances based on some statistical relations with limited accuracy. This causes a number of effects leading to either underestimation or overestimation of the Hubble parameter when using any methods of statistical processing, primarily the least squares method (LSM). The value of the Hubble constant is underestimated when processing a whole sample; when the sample is constrained by distance, especially when constrained from above. Moreover, it is significantly overestimated due to the data selection. The bias significantly exceeds the values of the erro ofr the Hubble constant calculated by the LSM formulae. These effects are demonstrated both analytically and using Monte Carlo simulations, which introduce deviations in the velocities and estimated distances to the original dataset described by the Hubble law. The characteristics of the deviations are similar to real observations. Errors in the estimated distances are up to 20%. They lead to the fact that, when processing the same mock sample using LSM, it is possible to obtain an estimate of the Hubble constant from 96% of the true value when processing the entire sample to 110% when processing the subsample with distances limited from above. The impact of these effects can lead to a bias in the Hubble constant obtained from real data and an overestimation of the accuracy of determining this value. This may call into question the accuracy of determining the Hubble constant and can significantly reduce the tension between the values obtained from the observations in the early and modern Universes, which were actively discussed during the last year.

The understanding the processes of decentralization of the economy in a federal state as one of the possible sources of economic development. This understanding requires the revision of the implications that the formation and implementation of a policy of relations between the federal center and the regions entails. The goal of our present research is to develop an approach that will help assess the impact of the nature of relations between the federal center and the regions on economic growth. The theoretical and methodological basis of this study is formed by a set of scientific concepts in the field of economic federalism and spatial analysis. Basing on the index method (by determining the values of decentralization of regional incomes and expenditures) and the implementation of positioning, an assessment was made of the relationship between decentralization and economic growth by such a resulting parameter of the development of the territory as the “growth rate of the gross regional product” and the parameter characterizing the development of federalism relations in the country as “the level of economic decentralization”. According of the calculations we prove there is a positive effect of decentralization processes on regional economic growth in the analyzed time interval. There is a greater impact on the processes of decentralization of the indicator of income decentralization compared to the decentralization of expenses. The results of our research can be used in the work of federal authorities in the formation of the regional component of federalism policy. It seems the proposed approach can basis of research related to the determination of the main directions of relations between regions and municipalities.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to understand which parameters control the palaeoenvironmental distribution of Middle Cretaceous oysters. To reach this objective, the following two step analysis has been carried out. First, ten major Upper Albian to Lower Turonian outcrops from the northern part of the Aquitain Basin (SW France) (fig. 1) were analysed with respect to their sedimentological and palaeontological features (see fig. 2 for oyster distribution). They represent a time interval corresponding to a 2nd order transgression [Hardenbol et al., 1997; Néraudeau et al., 1997], characterised in the Charentes (North Aquitaine Basin) by a great variety of depositional environments and very rich in oyster assemblages [Videt, 2004]. According to previous authors [Moreau, 1993; Néraudeau et al., 1997; Platel, 1989, 1996], this series can be divided into seven lithological units, A to G, four units (A, B, C and G) being subdivided into two or three subunits (A1 and A2, B1 to B3, C1 to C4, G1 and G2). Apart from the sub-units A1 and Tu, which correspond to the Late Albian and Early Turonian respectively, all the lithological sub-units A2 to G2 correspond to the Cenomanian series. A and B belong to the lower Cenomanian, C1 to C3 to the middle Cenomanian, and C4 to G2 to the Upper Cenomanian. In terms of palaeoenvironments, unit A is considered as deposits of a sandy estuary (with local lignite layers) [Néraudeau et al., 2002, 2003; Perrichot, 2003], and unit B as shallow subtidal sand dunes [Vullo et al., 2003]. Unit C corresponds to the optimal development of a carbonate platform with rudists [Chéreau et al., 1997], unit D to a marly open shelf marly facies, unit E to an oyster bank mainly composed of Pycnodonte biauriculata [Dhondt, 1984], unit F to a moderately deep bioclastic facies colonised by rudist Ichthyosarcolites triangularis and, unit G, which forms progressively marly up-section, to progressive platform flooding at the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary. From the analysis of these different lithological units and subunits, the North Aquitaine Basin can be considered as a mixed siliciclastic-carbonate platform. Two main depositional systems have been identified, namely an open one and a closed one. The synthetic distribution of twelve kinds of oysters biofacies (bf1 to bf12) described in these units and subunits is summed up in figure 3 according to depositional type, lithology and depth. Based on the palaeoenvironmental distribution of Middle Cretaceous oysters in the northern part of the Aquitain Basin, the palaeoecological affinities of the nine marine species are discussed regarding seven main parameters i.e., oxygenation, water turbulence, salinity, turbidity, bathymetry, grain size, and substrate consistency (i.e. “hardground” VS “softground”) (fig. 4). Acutostrea aff. incurva (Nilson, 1827) (figs 4, 5h) and Curvostrea rouvillei (Coquand, 1862) (figs 4, 5i) are very rare species with a distribution that is still ambiguous. Apparently they preferred soft substrates and seem to have tolerated lowered oxygen levels. In addition, they are encountered in quiet, deep environments, i.e., the lower infralittoral to circalittoral zones sensu Néraudeau et al. [2001]. Ceratostreon flabellatum (Goldfuss, 1833) (figs 4, 5e) is not a prolific species but was widely distributed all over the carbonate platform. Nevertheless it is mainly marine and located in the infralittoral zone [sensu Néraudeau et al., 2001]. Gyrostrea delettrei (Coquand, 1862) (figs 4, 5g) might have been very widespread but is very rare. It was most abundant in marginal marine environments where it was the sole oyster that tolerated brackish water conditions. Pycnodonte biauriculata (Lamarck, 1819) (figs 4, 5d), in spite of its very short stratigraphic range (Naviculare Ammonite Zone), colonised a wide variety of environments. It is mainly a relatively medium water species (regarding to other species) [Stenzel, 1971; Harry, 1985; Freneix and Viaud, 1986], from the lower infralittoral zone [sensu Néraudeau et al., 2001] but it needed food-laden currents. Pycnodonte vesicularis (Lamarck, 1819) (figs 4, 5f) is also an ubiquitous species. However, in contrast to Pycnodonte biauriculata, it preferred deep, soft substrates (circalittoral and deeper ones? [Néraudeau and Villier, 1997]). Rastellum carinatum (Lamarck, 1806) (figs 4, 5c) and Rastellum diluvianum (Linne, 1767) (figs 4, 5b) exhibit an identical distribution pattern in spite of the fact that R. diluvianum is more selective than Rastellum carinatum. Carter [1968], Jablonsky and Lutz [1980] and Freneix and Viaud [1986] have already demonstrate that these species do not tolerate turbulent conditions but are particularly adapted to quiet water and soft substrates. The two species also do not tolerate salinity variations. Rhynchostreon suborbiculatum (Lamarck, 1801) (figs 4, 5a) is the most ubiquitous species in the Cenomanian of the Aquitain Basin. Videt and Néraudeau [2003] and Videt [2004] have already defined the parameters that affected its shape and its abundance. As the species does not occur in brackish water deposits, salinity seems to have been a major factor limiting its distribution.

In order to study the significance of the impact of wear on the working surfaces of parts of the intermediate gear assembly on the amount of plunger dead stroke and, therefore, on the cycle feed and advance fuel injection angle, we analyzed the critical positions of the parts of the assembly without the repair of its geometric parameters. In the process, the working surfaces of parts and mates are subject to intensive wear, which leads to an increase in the radial play of the intermediate gear. With the help of the developed device, the intermediate gears of the first and second pump sections of 70 ND-22/6 pumps from among the repair stock were examined at the specialized workshop of OAO “Yantikovskoe RTP”. From an analysis of the results of statistical processing of the backlash values in the nodes under study, it follows that in 75% of pumps the value of the radial play of the intermediate gear exceeds the allowable value for the first pumping section and 72% of the pumps for the second section. The paper proposes a method for determining the radial play of the intermediate gear drive of the plunger rotation drive of the distribution type pump. The design of the device for the in-place determination of the radial play of parts in the nodes of intermediate gears is given. Statistical indicators of the radial play of the intermediate gears of the plunger rotation mechanism were obtained. The percentage of shelf life of distribution type pumps is determined by the parameters of the technical condition of the intermediate gear assemblies. According to the research results, it was proposed to transfer the intermediate gear assemblies of the ND-22/6 pumps to the category of repair kits with their obligatory replacement when replacing pump sections.

The technological process of vibrational digging-up of sugar beet has spread in many sugar beet-sowing coun- tries. The experience of using this process demonstrated its advantages compared against other ways of dig- ging-up, but there have been scarce experimental researches of the vibrational digging-up of sugar beet from soil which makes this topic urgent for sugar beet production. Aim. The experimental determination of rational parameters and modes of the vibrational digging-up working tool to ensure the required quality of conducting the technological process of digging sugar beet from soil. Methods. The methods of planning a multifactor ex- periment, fi eld studies, statistical processing, regression analysis of the experimental data with building graphic curves were applied. Results. A new model of a tool for vibrational digging-up of sugar beet from soil has been elaborated. The accepted program and method were used to conduct experimental research on the impact of the main construction and technological parameters of the vibrational digging-up working tool of the beet harvester on the quality indices of performing the technological process of harvesting sugar beet. The energy parameters of new vibrational digging-up working tools were studied in fi eld conditions via registering the values of tenzometric sensors in different modes of the device and different parameters and working modes of the vibrational digging-up tools. Conclusions. It was established that there is a value of the vibration frequency and running depth in soil of the vibrational digging-up working tool for each value of the translational veloc- ity of the vibrational digging-up machine which corresponds to minimal losses and damage to crop roots. It was also found that the degree of crop root damage depends on the conditions of performing the technological process of vibrational digging-up (soil solidity and humidity), and the weight of damaged crop roots increases with the increase in solidity and the decrease in humidity of soil.

The phenomenon of splash caused by water drop has been widely studied in recent years. There are many measurement methods, including the method based on the use of so-called high-speed cameras. Due to the possibility of recording of the phenomenon with a high time frequency (thousands of recorded frames per second), this method provides detailed information about the process of splashed particles, which were previously unavailable. These include, among others, precise tracking of single ejected particles, determination of their ejection angle, displacement distance, and division of splashed elements into groups depending on the place or moment of ejection from the particle bedding. Despite the numerous advantages of the method, there is no information about the percentage of splashed particles that the cameras are able to detect and identify. In order to determine such effectiveness, it is necessary to have a reference method that guarantees 100% identification of splashed particles.

The aim of this work was to determine the effectiveness of high-speed cameras in identification of particles ejected from the granular bedding during the water drop impact. Sticky paper was used as a reference method.

Dry spherical glass beads (425–600 μm size range), which were placed into an aluminium ring (30mm diameter, 10mm height) were used in the experiments. The aluminum ring was placed in a drilled hole (only slightly larger than the ring) in a horizontal wooden plate, and therefore, the surface of the beads was at the same level as the surrounding plane. Drops (d=4.2mm) of distilled water were created in a peristaltic pump and fell free from 1.5m. The final velocity of each drop was 4.98 m/s.

Three synchronized Phantom Miro M310 cameras were used to register the splash phenomenon (307 μs time interval, 1280x800 px resolution). The camera calibration process facilitated analysis of the trajectories of the splashed particles and determination of their velocities, ejection angles, and displacement distances. The analysis of the recorded images was carried out using the Dantec Dynamics Studio software. The particles were tracked by the Volumetric 3DPTV module, and the trajectories were further analyzed by our script written in LabVIEW.

A hole (30mm diameter) was cut out of a piece of sticky paper, and the paper was placed concentrically over the ring. This allowed recording of all splashed particles while avoiding their rebounding or rolling from the plane. Following the impact, the beads were photographed using a Nikon D7100 camera, and images were analyzed using ImageJ software. The number of particles and the distance from the geometrical center of the drop impact were recorded.

Measurements using the high-speed cameras and the sticky paper method were carried out in 16 repetitions.

The results obtained with both methods were compared with each other. Regarding the sticky paper method as a reference, the efficiency of identification with the high-speed cameras for the splash of glass beads was determined, which was estimated at 53%.

The study was partially funded by the National Science Centre, Poland, in the frame of the project no. 2017/26/D/ST10/01026.

The harvest of sugar beet leads to root tip breakage and surface damage through mechanical impacts, which increase storage losses. For the determination of textural properties of sugar beet roots with a texture analyzer a reliable method description is missing. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of washing, soil tare, storage period from washing until measurement, sample distribution and number of roots on puncture and compression measurements. For this purpose, in 2017 comprehensive tests were conducted with sugar beet roots grown in a greenhouse. In a second step these tests were carried out with different Beta varieties from a field trial, and in addition, a flexural test was included. Results show that the storage period after washing and the sample distribution had an influence on the puncture and compression strength. It is suggested to wash the roots by hand before the measurement and to determine the strength no later than 48 h after washing. For reliable and comparable results a radial distribution of measurement points around the widest circumference of the root is recommended for the puncture test. The sample position of the compression test had an influence on the compressive strength and therefore, needs to be clearly defined. For the puncture and the compression test it was possible to achieve stable results with a small sample size, but with increasing heterogeneity of the plant stand a higher number of roots is required. The flexural test showed a high variability and is, therefore, not recommended for the analysis of sugar beet textural properties.
