There is growing consensus among the scientific community members about the urgency of debating ways to promote Open Science (OS). However, the notion of OS itself has been highly controversial, encompassing different meanings and values. Two distinct conceptions have emerged: the first highlights principles such as acceleration, efficiency, and reproducibility; the second perspective is grounded in participation, social justice, and democratization of knowledge. Both models accomplish distinct goals while facing specific limits and challenges to improve scientific production. Even though the first conception has become more celebrated among some top-ranked journals, we question approaches that standardize scientific practices, neglect global diversity, and undermine the importance of local contexts. By discussing the pioneering role that researchers and journals in Latin America have played toward a pluralistic interpretation of OS, this article contributes to a more nuanced understanding of scientific production in the Global South.

Palabras clave: tortura, resistencia, violencia, neoliberalismo, América Latina Political and politicians bodies in the Latin American dictatorships Abstract Through content analysis it is proposed relate theorizing from various academic sources has been carried around the body with historical moments of the recent past in Latin America, particularly in dictatorial period. A review of torture and disappearance as central elements in national construction and the capitalist formation is proposed; and the use and production of speeches around the body as resistance against the state order that has been imposed violence in the context of different dictatorships in countries in South America. We will track the scientific production to understand the human body as social and symbolically constructed and will discuss a historical journey through some case studies. In such cases the exercise of torture, ill-treatment and harassment have served to generate power dynamics-resistance around the person, not viewed from an individual or psychological but social, relational and construction sight. Keywords: torture, resistance, violence, neoliberalism, Latin America

AbstractThis article seeks to justify the fact that the International Centre for Journalism Studies in Latin America (Ciespal) was not only a factor to develop the field of communication studies in megaregión but previous experiences that led to establishing the germ undisputed and heavier foundation for the development of the academic field of communication in Latin America. It aims, therefore, to show the process of objectification of the narrative construction of identity and academic field, namely, the process of institutionalization of the teaching and research of communication in this megaregión: when, how and who created the actions, resources, rules and strategies that allowed routine academic practices fixation and stability in the past and that even today retain a significant nature. In each section of this text will prove to be the foundation of Ciespal, in 1959, when teaching, documentation and communication research in Latin America develop a new look that would later become central to the construction of the identity of academic field of communication in Latin America. KeywordsResearch in communication, institutionalization, Latin America, research centers.

The article was originally published without an abstract, short summary by Michal Gilewski The article studies what is causing women to join guerillas in Latin America. The participation of women in such militant groups started with the leftist guerillas of the second half of the 20th century. The article describes different backgrounds and different reasons for the women to join armed struggle groups. It also describes how women functioned in the social, ideological and biological dimensions of guerillas. Śniadecka-Kotarska suggests that, although the guerilla movement failed to achieve its goals of socio-political transformation of Latin American societies, it made an important contribution to the emancipation of women in these societies.

ECONOMIC GROWTH AND INEQUALITY IN ASIA, EUROPE, AND LATIN AMERICA, 1990-2019

ABSTRACT

The paper’s aim is to analyse the effect of trade liberalization on productivity, income distribution and economic growth. The ability of a free-market oriented economy to fence off an exogenous shock such as the Covid-19 pandemic is also dealt with. Following Fajnzylber’s (1990) taxonomy of growth and inequality, we assess the relationship between trade liberalisation, growth and income distribution for a sample set of Asian, Latin American, and European countries over the period 1990-2019. Our main empirical results show that there exist: 1) a co-movement between growth and equality in Asia, but significant lags in both respects prevail in Latin America; 2) productivity and non-price competitiveness are the dynamizing factors in both Asia and Europe

AbstractThis article proposes some reflections about the association between history and literature. We have established some links with literary works written by Latin American authors of the twentieth century. In the pages of these Latin American novels the exponents of a whole structure of domination are paraded: politicians, old aristocrats, opportunist newcomers, truculent farmers, subservient civil servants, venal lawyers, representatives of local capitalism, dominated and dominant ones. The various Latin American writers show us dictatorships in their grotesque insanity, the bloody repressions that allow popular social movements to emerge. They outline the turbulences of the real and imaginary, utilitarian and magical, doubt and perplexity, memory and hope, forgetfulness and hopelessness, mirror and labyrinth. Keywords: History, Literature, Mirror, Labyrinth, Latin America.
