The article is devoted to the study of the concept of «gratitude» relevant in modern discourse on the material of the media texts combined in the book Thanksgiving day (of the daily All-Ukrainian newspaper «Day»). An attempt is made to determine the conceptual content of the concept of «gratitude» through the verbalized means of objectifying this ethnocultural formation. The concept of «gratitude» in the analyzed texts plays the role of the semantic dominant, viewed through the prism "Without memory there is no gratitude, and without gratitude there is no historical (institutionalized) memory" which defined their semantic structure. An attempt was made to identify the axiological potential of «gratitude» as the dominant of a nonfiction text, where expressive expression is a means of achieving maximum impact on the reader. The leading meanings-values are gratitude-self-esteem, gratitude-happiness, universal cultural regulation.

The article is devoted to the role of non-verbal components (video, photo images, audio, graphic signs, etc.) in the semantic structure of polycode advertising publications. The empirical material included advertising messages retrieved from the social network Instagram. The role of nonverbal elements as the leading attractive component of the publication is defined. The practice of verbal and visual duplication of elements of the text semantic structure is revealed. The multi-functionality of visual elements as a component of the media text semantic structure is described. The role of visual, audial and graphic components in the logical framework of the message is fixed. The analysis of the survey of respondents allowed us to determine the general specifics of the perception of a polycode publication, as well as the problem areas of building an advertising media text in the Instagram social network.

Processes are taking place in the 21st century that are altering the role of language and society’s attitude towards language. The virtualisation of the world, the influence of the media, and the processes of globalisation are all driving a shift in the role of language. This has made linguistics, as well as other humanities and social sciences, turn back to neuroscience and a focus on cognitive processes. The interaction between linguistic processes and real-life evolution has two axes, with semantic structure analysis playing an important part on the linguistic plane, and analysis of the impact of language on real-life processes. The economic linguistics approach makes it possible to tie the predominant sense elements of any concept to the linguistic worldview of the national language and the sociocultural consciousness of the actual language community. The objective of this article is to introduce several linguistic ideas by revealing: 1) the method of reconstruction of deep semantic structures – the ‘semantic dowry’ analysis; 2) the method of identifying the predominant sense elements of a concept in the sociocultural consciousness of an actual language community based on the approach of economic linguistics. In order to demonstrate how this method works, the article identifies the predominant sense elements of the concept estiškumas (‘Estonianness’) denominated by the lexemes estas/estė/estai (‘Estonian’, N, SG-M/SG-F/PL) and estiškas/estiška (‘Estonian’, ADJ, M/S).Kokkuvõte. Jolanta Zabarskaitė: Eestist leedu keeles. Lekseemist estiškumas (‘eestilik’) leedu keeles majanduslingvistika vaatepunktist.

The stylistic potential of periphrases in the headlines of media texts is analyzed. The relevance of the stated topic is due to the important role of the headline in media texts, its polyfunctional nature. The main functions of the headline, in particular: nominative, informative, expressive, advertising, manipulative – correspond to the basic functions of the media (information and influence on the audience). In accordance with these functions, the headline actualizes the expressive and evaluative features of the language, one of which is the periphrasis. Periphrastic constructions in the headlines reinforce the semantic coherence of the text, a positive or negative assessment, and emotion. The factual material illustrates the use of allusion periphrasis that creates secondary contextual nominations, and conveys the basic meaning of information in an expressive periphrastic form. The meaning of such transformed periphrastic constructions is revealed in the structure of the text, thereby attracting the recipient and encouraging him to read the media material. As the factual material shows, in the structure of media headlines, as a rule, the well-known periphrases are used with a special cultural connotation fixed in the consciousness of the society. It is also noted that transformed periphrases often represent an allusion to known cultural phenomena (historical events, the names of movies, fiction). In the work, it is noted that the periphrastic constructions, replacing the same denotation in the headline, subtitle, and main text, create an additional semantic coherence of the text. The analysis made it possible to determine that the periphrasis in the header of the media text also combines the structural components of the title and paragraphs, affects the architectonics of the entire media text, accumulating information important for the perception of the text. The study allows us to conclude that the periphrasis in the headline structure affects the emotive and logical levels of perception. On the basis of illustrations, it is shown that periphrases in headings are an effective tool for achieving the main goal of media texts – the impact on the recipient.

Abstract. The current study investigated the associations of psychological resources, social comparisons, and temporal comparisons with general wellbeing. The sample included 142 community participants (47.9% men; age range 23–83 years), who compared themselves with others, and with their younger selves, on eight dimensions (e.g., physical health, resilience). They also completed questionnaires assessing psychological resources of mastery and self-esteem, and three components of subjective wellbeing: life satisfaction and negative and positive affect. The main results showed that high levels of psychological resources contributed to wellbeing, with self-enhancing social and temporal comparisons moderating the effects of resources on certain wellbeing components. Specifically, under low levels of mastery or self-esteem self-enhancing social or temporal comparisons were related to either higher life satisfaction or positive affect. The results highlight the role of resources and comparisons in promoting people’s wellbeing, and suggest that self-enhancing comparisons function as cognitive coping mechanisms when psychological resources are low.
