The conditions are investigated in which Spanish university teachers carry out their teaching and research functions. 655 teachers from the University of Oviedo took part in this study by completing the Academic Setting Evaluation Questionnaire (ASEQ). Of the three dimensions assessed in the ASEQ, Satisfaction received the lowest ratings, Social Climate was rated higher, and Relations with students was rated the highest. These results are similar to those found in two studies carried out in the academic years 1986/87 and 1989/90. Their relevance for higher education is twofold because these data can be used as a complement of those obtained by means of students' opinions, and the crossing of both types of data can facilitate decision making in order to improve the quality of the work (teaching and research) of the university institutions.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are key to create sustainable higher education institutions (HEIs). Most researchers focused on the students’ perspective, especially during the online teaching caused by COVID-19; however, university teachers are often forgotten, having their opinion missing. This study’s objective was to determine the factors that contribute to the inclusion of ICTs. The research based on a comparative study through an online qualitative survey focused on the inclusion and use of ICTs in two HEIs and two different moments (pre-and post-lockdowns). There were differences regarding country and working experience (p < 0.001), being linked to the ICTs use, evaluation of obstacles, and the role given to ICTs (p < 0.05). The COVID-19 caused modifications of the teachers’ perspectives, including an improvement of the opinion of older teachers regarding the essentialness of ICTs in the teaching process (p < 0.001) and worsening their perception about their ICTs skill (p < 0.05). Additionally, an initial model focused only on the university teachers and their use of ICTs has been proposed. In conclusion, the less experienced university teachers used more ICTs, identified more greatly the problematic factors, and considered more important the ICTs, with the perception of all teachers modified by COVID-19.

At the beginning of XX Century there was a great advance in Spanish science and culture, but not in universities. The Second Republic launched a great university reform inspired by other European and American universities. The introduction of research, new studies plans, and the proliferation of university colleges, were some of the keys to the new Spanish university model. The project of the university reform of the Second Republic was actively developed until the summer of 1936, when many faculties, engineering schools, research laboratories, residences and other institutions of the Madrid Campus were already opened. The experience of Madrid was adopted by other Spanish uni-versities. In some cases, pedagogical and research methodologies have been at the forefront internationally. Access to university education and research for women has become ubiquitous. Among the university teachers were leading representatives of the Silver Age of Spanish sci-ence and culture. However, this project of reforming Spanish universi-ties was thwarted by the mutiny of July 18, 1936, one of the goals of which was to stop the modernization process launched by the Second Republic. The mutiny led to a bloody civil war, during which the new-ly opened faculties of the university campus became a zone of fierce fighting, buildings were destroyed, as was the entire university reform project.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) competences have been widely discussed over the past decade. A number of frameworks have been developed, and the Erasmus+ Project “A Rounder Sense of Purpose” (RSP) set out to establish a profound and practical framework of competences to be used in any European context to enable in-service and pre-service educators to demonstrate their competence in ESD. Over the course of two years at the University of Vechta, staff training was provided using the RSP competences model as a guiding framework. Data were collected through a focus group and a self-assessment survey in order to answer the research question, “Which competences do university teachers need in order to work with the concept of ESD in higher education and how can these be developed in a series of staff training workshops?” The results show that all 12 RSP competences are indeed relevant for higher education teaching, but the potential for developing them into a staff training programme is limited. There are multiple trigger points and settings that are beneficial to and necessary for the development of ESD competences. If those conditions are not met there is limited opportunity for applying ESD methods within higher education.

ABSTRACT Background: Indonesia is one of the countries affected by COVID-19 pandemic. In overcoming this pandemic, the government waives the service fees for COVID-19 patients. It provides an opportunity for hospitals serving COVID-19 patients to submit claims for treatment financing to the Ministry of Health. There are technical guidelines for payment; there are still frequent problems, leading to a dispute. This is also experienced by the University of Indonesia Hospital (RSUI) as one of the COVID-19 referral hospitals. This study aimed to provide an overview of the claim problem encountered and their solution. Subjects and Method: This was a descriptive study conducted at University of Indonesia Hospital from July, 2020. The theme of this study was problem in claiming payments for COVID-19 patients. Several informants were selected for this study included: hospital claim officers, medical record units, inpatient units and registration units. The data were collected by observation, in-depth interview, disputed claim data. Results: The results of the investigation found that the problem of dispute claims for COVID-19 in RSUI was dominated by the incompleteness of filling in administrative files as evidence of service practice for patients in the field, such as incomplete ventilator usage curves (7.8%), swab results (3.9%), and rapid test (6.8%) which was not listed. Conclusion: Discipline needs to be applied in the completeness of documents, and a clear flow of patient care is required to avoid incomplete records. Teacher training in higher education has been relatively neglected in Brazilian universities because postgraduate programs are mainly focused on the research that students produce. However, these postgraduate students are expected to become the next university and college professors. Herein, we present the experience of the Zoology Summer Course, a university extension course organized by graduate students from the Zoology Graduate Program at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. This course was created aimed to provide graduate students with an opportunity to develop and practice their teaching skills. To understand the influences, motives, and legacy of the CVZOO on its organizers, we developed a questionnaire and evaluated the responses by focusing on elements of academic formation and prospects for a teaching career, using systematic content analysis procedures as parameters. Our results demonstrate the importance of CVZOO as a space of dialogue and interaction for professional teacher training, as well as an opportunity to exchange experiences and build professional identity. The course has also influenced other academic activities such as the organization of scientific events, mentoring experience, and publications. Lastly, we discuss the importance of teacher training in Brazilian graduate programs and propose initiatives to improve the training of future university teachers.
