Introduction. According to Russian state reports on the environment, mining sector in Russia accounts for a significant amount of environmental impact. Research aim is to substantiate a methodological approach to assessing the effectiveness of using environmentally friendly circular business models in mining enterprises. Research methodology includes the study, critical assessment and systematization of the methods of environmental circular activity results determination in mineral production. Research results. The effectiveness of circular business models is considered as a condition for their application. It consists of ecological, socio-ecological and eco-economic effectiveness, so it can be termed in an integrated manner as the socio-eco-economic effectiveness. Ecological and socioecological types of effectiveness are determined by the prevention, minimization or elimination of environmental and social harm. Considering that environmental and social losses, for well-known reasons, can never get a fair integrated assessment, in practice it is necessary to apply the indicators of ecological and socio-ecological damage, which do not fully reflect the amount of harm caused. The ecoeconomic effectiveness of circular business models is associated with the prevention, minimization or elimination of national economy’s (economy of the country) existing or possible losses (damage) and/or additional costs caused by human impact to the environment in the process of subsurface use. In this case, we are talking about reducing the amount of eco-economic damage. Research results application. The research makes it possible to study and systematize currently proposed methods for assessing the extent of environmentally related damage caused by mining. The methods considered are intended to be applied in assessing the ecological, socio-ecological and eco-economic effectiveness of environmentally friendly circular business models in this field.

AbstractToday, the digital economy is pushing new business models, based on the creation of value chains for data processing, through the interconnection of processes, products, services, software, and things across different domains and organizations. Despite the growing availability of communication infrastructures, computing paradigms, and software architectures that already effectively support the implementation of distributed multi-domain value chains, a comprehensive architecture is still missing that effectively fulfills all related security issues: mutual trustworthiness of entities in partially unknown topologies, identification and mitigation of advanced multi-vector threats, identity management and access control, management and propagation of sensitive data. In order to fill this gap, this work proposes a new methodological approach to design and implement heterogeneous security services for distributed systems that combine together digital resources and components from multiple domains. The framework is designed to support both existing and new security services, and focuses on three novel aspects: (i) full automation of the processes that manage the whole system, i.e., threat detection, collection of information and reaction to attacks and system anomalies; (ii) dynamic adaptation of operations and security tasks to newest attack patterns, and (iii) real-time adjustment of the level of detail of inspection and monitoring processes. The overall architecture as well as the functions and relationships of its logical components are described in detail, presenting also a concrete use case as an example of application of the proposed framework.

This study focuses on theory building providing a holistic conceptual framework that consists of an ontology based OSS business model and an OSS business model taxonomy. The study extends existing theory in OSS business models and corresponding taxonomies, based on the structured-case methodological approach. An exploratory study is conducted in two research cycles, for the identification, validation, and evaluation of the critical constructs of an OSS business model. Results reveal that OSS business models differ from traditional software business models, having specific features that affect the software value chain, the infrastructure, and the revenue model of an OSS oriented firm.

This chapter examines the changing retail cost model. As established firms re-think existing business models, most will need to come to terms with a rather different operating cost model than the one they have been used to in a pre-internet era, when retailing was conducted entirely out of physical stores. Equally, new entrants may struggle to achieve sustainable performance without understanding the full implications of their evolving cost base. In an omni-channel world where shoppers are, as we have discussed, showing much more appetite to shop online and across multiple touchpoints, the implications for the cost model of traditional retailers are considerable. The extent to which any additional costs of omni-channel retailing become ‘baked in’ to the model is also up for discussion.

Abstract Background and Purpose: Bringing several opportunities for more effective and efficient IT governance and service exploitation, cloud computing is expected to impact the European and global economies significantly. Market data show that despite many advantages and promised benefits the adoption of cloud computing is not as fast and widespread as foreseen. This situation shows the need for further exploration of the potentials of cloud computing and its implementation on the market. The purpose of this research was to identify individual business model factors with the highest impact on cloud computing adoption. In addition, the aim was to identify the differences in opinion regarding the importance of business model factors on cloud computing adoption according to companies’ previous experiences with cloud computing services. Methodology: Based on literature review, prior research results, and interviews with cloud computing providers and users, a research model was developed. Statistical analysis focused on identification of factors’ importance on cloud computing adoption and differences in opinions according to respondents’ previous experiences with cloud computing services. The study was done among 80 companies and five major cloud computing providers in Slovenia. Results: The research results reveal statistically significant differences in opinions on the importance of cloud computing business model factors according to respondents’ previous experiences with cloud computing services. The results can provide orientation for redesign or innovation of existing business models towards the creation of a customer-oriented business model for the more successful exploitation of cloud computing services and business opportunities. For potential users, the findings represent guidelines for the successful adoption of cloud computing services. Conclusions: In our research, the investigated business model factors could be classified into so-called “business model organizational factors”, as they primarily need to be considered by cloud service providers when defining or innovating their business models. For future research, the model should also include the impact of environmental factors, such as Competition, Business Partners, Legislation, Economic Situation, in order to investigate their impact on cloud adoption.

Increasing demands of the present society lead to an effort to rationalize logging operations in forest management. Therefore, multi-function logging machines are increasingly used in the course of timber harvesting. Nevertheless, the economic effectiveness of these machines is affected not only by their productivity or environmentally friendly operations but also the quality of performed work. It can be evaluated by the assessment of the quality of produced assortments. Decreasing quality of produced logs can result in the reduction of marketability and wood price. Thus, the aim of this paper is to determine some defects originating at the harvester production of assortments and specification of their potential causes.

Abstract. Calabria (southern Italy) is a flood prone region, due to both its rough orography and fast hydrologic response of most watersheds. During the rainy season, intense rain affects the region, triggering floods and mass movements that cause economic damage and fatalities. This work presents a methodological approach to perform the comparative analysis of two events affecting the same area at a distance of 15 years, by collecting all the qualitative and quantitative features useful to describe both rain and damage. The aim is to understand if similar meteorological events affecting the same area can have different outcomes in terms of damage. The first event occurred between 8 and 10 September 2000, damaged 109 out of 409 municipalities of the region and killed 13 people in a campsite due to a flood. The second event, which occurred between 30 October and 1 November 2015, damaged 79 municipalities, and killed a man due to a flood. The comparative analysis highlights that, despite the exceptionality of triggering daily rain was higher in the 2015 event, the damage caused by the 2000 event to both infrastructures and belongings was higher, and it was strongly increased due to the 13 flood victims. We concluded that, in the 2015 event, the management of pre-event phases, with the issuing of meteorological alert, and the emergency management, with the preventive evacuation of people in hazardous situations due to landslides or floods, contributed to reduce the number of victims.

Topicality. The issue of the environmentalization management diagnostics in the energy sector becomes increasingly topical due to the necessity to define the achievement or vice versa - leveling the management goal which is the reorientation of the energy sector in conformity to the new environmentally oriented goals conditioned by the internal environmental issues, international demands and national interests of the country. Environmentalization of the energy sector became very topical both from the point of view of the national interests in connection with the existing challenges in front of the country, environmental condition, vectors of the ecological strategic development and socio-economic interests. The man-caused load on the environment results in different types of the social, ecological, economic damage, reduction of the enterprises’ efficiency and potential of their competitiveness under the conditions of the world environmentally oriented challenges. Environmentalization management diagnostics in the energy sector is the possibility to see the condition of the environmental transformation process and improvement of the energy sector which will show the results of adopted management steps or determine their weaknesses for further adaptation of the management process to the existing challenges and searching for the methods of satisfaction of the social, ecological, economic interests of the country which defined the topicality of this research. Aim and tasks. The article is aimed at grounding the methodological approach to the environmentalization management diagnostics in the energy sector. Research results. Methodological approach to the environmentalization management diagnostics in the energy sector is based on the concept of the management process formalization, mainly, on the accentuation of the tough interaction of the management subjects involved in the achievement of the goal of the national interests satisfaction with regard to the environmentalization of the energy sector, management objects adapted to the management decisions passed and the related institutional ground necessary to achieve the management goals. Conclusion. The environmentalization management diagnostics in the energy sector shall reflect the interaction between the separate parts of the management process: Coherence of economic and environmental politics concerning the environmentalization of the energy sector with management of the processes of technical and technological insurance, coherence of the social, ecological, economic processes and coherence of the activity of management subjects of the lower level with the management goals of the higher. Such unified interaction shall result in the synergistic effect of national interests achievement in the environmentalization of the energy sector at different management levels: local, regional, national
