One hundred and twenty eight Isa-Brown pullet chicks were used for this study to determine the internal qualities of egg(s) from birds fed diets containing Vernoniaamygdalina leaf meals at different growing phases. The leaves used were air-dried, crushed and milled, and was then incorporated into the experimental treatments (T2, T3, and T4) at 2% inclusion each. The birds were randomly allotted into four dietary treatments (T1, T2, T3 and T4) and each treatment was replicated four times with each replicate having 8 birds from the chick phase to the growing phase, thereafter 6 birds per replicate were randomly picked at the laying phase (point of cage), with T1 serving as the control treatment throughout the experimental period of 39weeks. The parameters measured include egg weight, shell weight, shell thickness, shell height, yolk weight, yolk height, yolk width, albumin length, albumin height, albumin weight, while yolk index and Haugh unit were calculated. The result of the experiment showed that T3 with 2% inclusion of Vernoniaamygdalinafrom the growing phase had the best shell thickness, yolk color and acceptable value for Haugh unit. Other parameters measured showed that yolk weight, and Haugh unit were significant at (p<0.05) with 2% inclusion of Vernoniaamygdalina. Every other parameter measured showed no significant difference across the treatments at (p>0.05). The result showed that 2% inclusion of Vernoniaamygdalinaleaf meal at the growing phase of the experiment improved the internal qualities of eggs.

This research was conducted to utilize fresh and fermented palm kernel cake in the ducks diets on egg physical quality. One hundred and five laying ducks were randomly devided in to five diets treatments in three replications with seven laying ducks each the dietary treatments were K = control, was diet without palm kernel cake, BKS 10 and BKS 30 diets with addition 10 % and 30 % fresh palm kernel cake, BKSF 10 and BKSF 30 diets with addition 10 % and 30 % fermented palm kernel cake. The data collected were egg mass, shell thickness, Haugh Unit and yolk colour and will be analyzed by a one way classification of variance analysis (CRD), followed by testing the significant mean by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed the egg mass, shell thickness, and HU had not significant different and egg mass were (64,74, 65,71, 67,22, 65,39, 63,52 g), shell thickness were (0,47, 0,49, 0,44, 0,48, 0,45 mm), Haught Unit were (86,81, 87,44, 90,94, 88,15, 88,08 %). Yolk colour had significant different between the treatment (9.31, 9,72, 9,81, 10,69, 10,74). It be concluded that the utilization 30% of fresh and fermented palm kernel cake in feed duck had not increase egg mass, shell tickness, and haugh unit, except on yolk colour. Abstract This research focuses on improving the outcome of idea generation sessions of interdisciplinary student teams working in the early design stages of a product or solution by measuring the effect of incorporating Design Heuristics Cards at different points of ideation sessions that adhere to the brainstorming guidelines. Using the design thinking methodology, an open-ended challenge was given to the participating teams for a Brainstorming exercise divided into a fifteen-minute individual segment followed by a thirty-minute team ideation segment. Three experimental treatments were designed where Design Heuristics Cards were introduced at different points of the ideation exercise: the start of the individual ideation segment, the start of the team ideation segment, or the second half of the team ideation segment. A fourth control treatment did not introduce the cards at any point but used the Brainstorming guidelines throughout. The metrics observed were Fluency, Novelty, Feasibility, and Market Fit of the ideas generated by the students. Eighty-four students participated in the experiment, with 58.3% being from majors in the College of Engineering, 28.6% from majors in the College of Business Administration, 7.1% from majors in the College of Arts and Sciences, and 6.0% from majors in the College of Agriculture. No significant difference was found among the experimental treatments; however the results are not considered final due to the explorative nature of the study. Recommendations are made on future work and possible improvements to the experiment.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) and chromium (chromium picolinate, Cr Pic) on egg production, some egg characteristics, and digestibility of nutrients in laying hens (Hy-Line) reared under a low ambient temperature (6.2&deg;C). Two hundred and ten laying hens (32 week-old) were divided into seven groups, 30&nbsp;hens per group. The treatment groups were designed in a 2 &times; 3 factorial arrangement using two levels of vitamin C (125 and 250 mg/kg of diet) and three levels of chromium picolinate (200, 400, or 800 &micro;g/kg of diet), and control group was fed basal diet. The highest values of performance were obtained if 250 mg/kg vitamin C was supplemented with either 400 or 800 &micro;g Cr per kg of diet. An interaction between vitamin C and chromium for egg production (P&nbsp;= 0.05) and feed efficiency (P&nbsp;= 0.02) was detected. Similarly, egg weight, specific gravity, egg shell thickness, egg shell weight and Haugh unit improved with diet containing 250 mg vitamin C and either 400 or 800 &micro;g Cr per kg of diet (P&nbsp;&pound; 0.05). Digestibility of dry matter (DM), ash, organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), and ether extract (EE) were higher with higher dietary vitamin C (P&nbsp;&pound; 0.05) and also with higher Cr (P&nbsp;&pound; 0.05). There were no interactions between vitamin C and chromium detected for any parameters measured for egg quality in terms of egg weight, specific gravidity, egg shell thickness, egg shell weight and Haugh unit and digestibility of nutrients (P&nbsp;&sup3; 0.28). Data obtained in the present study shows that a combination of 250 mg vitamin C and 400 &micro;g chromium per kg of diet gave the best results in laying hens reared under a low ambient temperature and a conclusion is suggested that such a diet can be considered as a protective management practice in poultry to alleviate, at least in part, the depressive effect of cold stress on poultry performance.

<p>Performance of vanilla, as influenced by organic source of nutrition when grown as intercrop in coconut garden, was studied in sandy loam soil at ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod, Kerala for seven years. Field experiments were carried out with different sources of organic manures, recommended NPK fertilizer and no fertilizer treatments. Application of cow dung slurry (6 tonnes ha<sup>-1</sup>) resulted in vigorous growth of vine (vine length of 5.5 m) and higher number of beans per vine (208) and a significantly higher mean fresh yield of bean (1.87 kg vine<sup>-1</sup>). Application of vermicompost (5 kg plant<sup>-1</sup>) + biofertilizers (<em>Bacillus</em> and <em>Azospirillum</em>) and vermiwash were on par and recorded mean fresh yield of 1.47 kg vine<sup>-1</sup> and 1.30 kg vine<sup>-1</sup>, respectively. Control treatment without fertilizer application recorded significantly lower fresh bean yield (0.55 kg vine<sup>-1</sup>) due to lower number of beans per vine (72 nos.).  In the rhizosphere of vanilla, no significant difference for either bacterial or actinomycetes population was noticed among the treatments. The fungal population differed significantly among the treatments and the highest population level was found with application of biogas slurry (62.1x10<sup>3</sup>cfu g<sup>-1</sup> soil), which was on par with application of cow dung slurry (59x10<sup>3</sup> cfu g<sup>-1</sup> soil). Among the function specific microbial communities, the highest population of  P-solubilisers (98x10<sup>3</sup> cfu g<sup>-1</sup> soil) was recorded in the biogas slurry treatment, and it was the lowest in control and vermiwash application treatments. The average coconut yield realized during experimental period(2004-05 to 2009-10) was 136 nuts per palm, recording 53 per cent increase in yield compared to pre-experimental yield (89 nuts per palm). </p>

SummaryTwo experiments, one with 18 and one with 21 cows, were made to compare the feeding value for milk production of concentrates in which the nitrogen normally supplied by oil cake was completely replaced by either biuret or urea. In expt 1 the urea and biuret contributed 52% of the total nitrogen in the concentrate and in expt 2 they contributed 43%. Hay was fed as the sole roughage. The estimated energy intake in expt 1 was 102–104% of the Woodman standard and in expt 2 it was 108–109%.In both experiments milk production was about 10% less on the urea and biuret treatments than on the control treatment. There was no significant difference in milk yield between the biuret and the urea treatments. The percentages of fat and protein in the milk from the urea and biuret treatments were higher than from the control treatment, but the weights of these milk constituents were slightly lower than from the control treatment. Liveweight changes and water consumption were not affected by the experimental treatments. In expt 2 an intake of nitrogen about 20% lower than is often recommended in the United Kingdom did not appear to depress milk yields. Three cows that had received biuret concentrates in expt 2 continued to do so during a nitrogen balance trial lasting 3 weeks. Each cow was slightly in negative balance, the average value being −4gN per cow per day.

The layer poultry is an important activity for food production with high biological value. Measuring egg quality has great relevance to ensure safety and quality products for consumers. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the egg physical quality of four laying hen’s strains. Were used 864 eggs from four laying hens’ lines (Hisex Brown®, Hy-Line Brown®, Isa Label®, and Lohmann Brown®). The experimental design was completely randomized composed of four treatments (strains) with nine replications with four eggs each. Egg weight, egg diameter, egg length, specific gravity, yolk, albumen and shell weight and percentage, Haugh units, and shell thickness were evaluated. There was a significant difference for all parameters evaluated. The Hisex Brown® strain showed the best results for egg diameter, egg length, specific weight, albumen height, Haugh units, yolk weight, albumen%, shell weight, shell%, and shell thickness, while the Hy-Line Brown® produced bigger and heavier eggs, and Isa Label® presented the highest yolk%. The Hisex Brown® strain showed the better physical quality of eggs when compared to the other studied lines, the strain being indicated when the objective is to produce eggs with better internal and external quality.

At present, probiotic bacteria are proposed as an important alternative for antibiotic elimination and for providing renewable products through biological control in cultivation systems of marine fish larvae. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of native and commercial probiotics on growth parameters of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) larvae fed with controlled biomar diet. Experimental diets with three probiotic bacterial mixture including commercial lactobacillus (L. plantarum and L. rhamnosus), commercial Bacillus (B. subtillis and B. licheniformis) and Bacillus isolated from intestine of Persian sturgeon (B. mycoides) were completed in two levels (6.1 and 7.2 log CFU in each g of feed) and were fed to larvae of Persian sturgeon in six experimental treatments. The control treatment was fed with diet without supplementation. The experiment was done in randomized design. In all the treatments, feed conversion index was increased considerably and had significant difference with control treatment and in all the experimental treatments influenced by probiotics were higher than that of control treatment (P<0.05). The highest rate means of special growth (1.84±0.21%) and thermal growth index (3.44±0.37%) was obtained respectively in treatment C1 and C2 (isolated from intestine). Maximum special growth rate (SGR %) were obtained from C1 (4.69±0.71%) and B2 (4.62±0.87%, commercial Bacillus). In addition, native probiotic bacteria had better performance than the non native commercial species as well as selection of suitable probiotic (natural) with respect to fish species, region and condition of culture plays a special importance role in enhancing the yield of Persian sturgeon larvae.

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana kualitas telur itik Mojosari yang diberi feed additive tepung daun sambiloto pada pakan. Materi yang digunakan 100 ekor itik Mojosari, telur itik dari berbagai perlakuan dan ulangan pakan basal berupa complete feed serta tepung daun sambiloto (TDS). Metode yang digunakan adalah metode percobaan lapang menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 5 perlakuan 4 ulangan, perlakuan yang diterapkan adalah P0 : pakan + 0% TDS, P1 : pakan + 0,2% TDS, P2 : pakan + 0,4% TDS, P3 : pakan + 0,6% TDS dan P4 : pakan + 0,8% TDS. Variabel yang diamati adalah berat telur, tebal kerabang, berat kerabang, haugh unit dan skor kuning telur. Adapun data yang didapat pada penelitian ini dianalisis sidik ragam apabila terdapat pengaruh pada perlakuan maka dilanjutkan dengan uji beda nyata terkecil (BNT). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan TDS sebagai feed additive pada P3 memberikan perbedaan yang nyata (P<0,05) terhadap berat kerabang (9,16±0,64 g) dan pada P1 tidak berpengaruh nyata  (P<0,05) pada haugh unit (106,61±3,15), tetapi pada P0, P2 dan P4 menunjukkan tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) terhadap berat telur (59,02±3,88 g ; 61,58±2,34 g ; 63,10±5,27 g)  tebal kerabang (0,55±0,05 mm ; 0,56±0,12 mm ; 0,67±0,17 mm) serta skor kuning telur (8,50±2,38 ; 10,25±0,57 ; 10,75±1,29). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian feed additive TDS dilevel 0,6 % pada pakan itik Mojosari dapat meningkatkan berat kerabang dan pada level 0,2 % dapat meningkatkan nilai haugh unit telur itik Mojosari, akan tetapi tidak dapat meningkatkan berat telur, tebal kerabang dan skor kuning telur itik Mojosari.   Abstract The purpose of this research is to find out how the quality of Mojosari duck eggs are fed feed additive of bitter leaf starch on the feed. Material used 100 ducks Mojosari, duck eggs from various treatments and replication of basal feed in the form of complete feed and bitter leaf flour (TDS). The method used was field experiments using Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with 5 treatment 4 replications, the treatment applied was P0: feed + 0% TDS, P1: feed + 0.2% TDS, P2: feed + 0.4% TDS, P3: feed + 0.6% TDS and P4: feed + 0.8% TDS. The variables observed were egg weight, thickness of the shell, weight of shell, haugh unit and egg yolk score. The data obtained in this study was analyzed variance if there is influence on the treatment then continued with the smallest real difference test (BNT). The results showed that the use of TDS as feed additive on P3 gave significant difference (P <0,05) to shell weight (9,16 ± 0,64 g) and at P1 gave significant difference (P <0.05) at Haugh units (106.61 ± 3.15), but at P0, P2 and P4 showed no significant differences (P> 0.05) with respect to egg weight (59.02 ± 3.88 g; 61.58 ± 2.34 G; 63.10 ± 5.27 g) shell thickness (0,55 ± 0,05 mm; 0,56 ± 0,12 mm; 0,67 ± 0,17 mm) and egg yolk score (8,50 ± 2.38; 10.25 ± 0.57; 10.75 ± 1.29). Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that giving feed additive of TDS at 0,6% at feed of Mojosari duck can increase shell weight and at level 0,2% can increase haugh unit of Mojosari duck egg, but can not increase egg weight, thick of kerabang And egg yolk score of Mojosari ducks.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of Endoglucanase producing Bacillus subtilis sp. fermented product (EBFP) on growth performance and meat characteristics in broilers. A total of 480, 1 day old ROSS male broiler chicks were obtained from a local hatchery and randomly allotted to 1 of 4 dietary treatments with 6 replicate pens consisting of 20 chicks. Three additional diets were prepared by mixing 0.1% of commercial cellulase, 0.1%, and 0.2% of EBFP with the control diet and all chicks were fed experimental diets and water ad libitum. Feed intake and body weight (BW) were recorded at 0, 3, and 5 week of the experiment. At the end of the experiment, birds fed a diet containing 0.1% of EBFP had the highest BW compared to birds in other groups (P > 0.01). During 0 to 5 week the experimental period, the dietary addition of 0.1% EBFP significantly increased (P > 0.01) BW gain that was higher than that of birds fed the diet in which only a commercial cellulase was added. No significant difference among treatments was observed in carcass weight, carcass yield, left breast, and thigh meat. These results suggest that dietary addition of cellulolytic probiotics may enhance growth performance compared with the single use of probiotics or enzymes.

The study aimed to know the effect of adding tartaric and salicylic acids alone and a mixture of water and diet on the egg quality characteristics of aged laying hens for brown Lohmann. 210 laying hens 60 weeks old were used The duration of the experiment, which lasted 112 days(16 weeks), was divided into four equal periods at a rate of 28 days for each period,, distributed in equal numbers to 21 ground hens, 10 laying hens for each hen, and distributed to seven treatments with three replications of the treatment, T1 was fed a standard diet without adding (control), T2 was fed a standard diet supplemented with 0.2% tartaric acid with water, T3 was fed a standard diet supplemented with 0.2% salicylic acid with water, T4 was fed a standard diet supplemented with 0.4% tartaric acid and salicylic acid was added with water, T5 was fed a standard diet supplemented with % 0.2 tartaric acid in the diet, T6 was fed a standard diet supplemented with 0.2% salicylic acid in the diet, T7 was fed a standard diet supplemented with 0.4% a mixture of tartaric and salicylic acid in the diet. The results of adding the two acids in the water and feed showed that there was a significant improvement (P≤0.01) in the quality characteristics of the eggs produced, as it significantly improved the shell weight, shell thickness, albumin height, albumin weight, Haugh unit, rate of yolk height, yolk weight, and the yolk diameter was significantly reduced for the coefficients of The addition compared with the control treatment.
