Muhammad Abduh had a remarkably profound and lasting impact in Indonesia. His reformist ideas had a strong repercussion in the political and social landscape of the region. They were readily adopted by major Islamic movements, notably Muhammadiyah, al-Irshad and Persatuan Islam (Persis). Abduh’s Tafsir al-Manar deeply influenced some momentous works of Qur’anic exegesis, such as Tafsir al-Azhar, Tafsir al-Qur’an al-Karim, Tafsir al-Qur’an al-Madjid (Tafsir al-Nur), Tafsir al-Misbah and Tafsir al-Furqan. His Majallat al-Manar, which was planned and collaborated with Rashid Rida since 1898, highly inspired reform-oriented scholarship evident in journals such as al-Munir, and al-Dhakhirah al-Islamiyah. This study aims to analyze the influence of Abduh’s modernism in Indonesia. It attempts to discover the implication of his principle and philosophical tradition in the religious reform and modern movement in Indonesia. The method of study is based on qualitative approaches, using content analysis method. It was conducted based on library method to investigate the related data from primary and secondary sources. The data was analyzed using descriptive-analytical approaches, by way of inference (istisqa’) and deductive (istinbat) method. The paper concluded that Abduh had profound and extensive influence in the Archipelago, especially his impact on Islamic reform and renewal (islah and tajdid) in Indonesia.

Abstract. The quality of urban life has become one of the most pertinent issues in contemporary times in India. There have been several reports published by government and nongovernmental agencies listing out various dimensions of quality of urban life but in a half-hearted manner as some reports have focused just upon the quality of urban air or some governmental reports talk about Human Development Index. There has hardly been any holistic effort to scale the quality of urban life in terms of economic, social, cultural, environmental and psychological well-being. Unless all these parameters are combined, one cannot furnish the livability index of micro urban spaces within major metropolitan regions. The calculation of livability index thus needs to take into account environmental, socio-economic and mental dimensions. The environment related data has been achieved by extracting NDVI through LANDSAT satellite imagery for the month of May, 2018. NDVI has been used for calculating green spaces index. The data related to socio-economic parameters have been collected through primary and secondary sources of data. The data related to psychological health is gathered through questionnaire survey and personal interviews. Ranking based index calculation has been applied to arrive at a common livability index of select sub spaces in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The outcomes are very interesting and helpful in comparative analysis of select sub-spaces vis-à-vis quality of life. It has also helped in the identification of stressed sub-regional or micro spaces. Such livability index will be highly useful in regional and urban planning. The research aims at calculating livability index for select sub-regional spaces in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

This article investigates the extant literature on the correlation between narratives in corporate annual reports and corporate performance. Prior studies are reviewed for overall characteristics, research topics, theoretical foundations, and methods. Articles published between 2000 and 2018 were analyzed using the content analysis method. The results demonstrated that prior studies generally show an increasing trend with salient interdisciplinarity. Mapping and predictability between annual reports’ narratives and business performance have been the prevailing topics. The impression management and agency theories are the most frequent theoretical references. More importantly, complexity of research methods was found in data, analytical approaches, and variables. The emphasis on narratives in prior research proves the necessity of contextualizing narratives in business communication. Future work would benefit from a “narrative framework” that incorporates linguistic, socio-cultural, and organizational perspectives into the correlation study. The article presents the first study to investigate the correlation studies through content analysis.

This study examines the latest developments in Qur’anic exegesis in Indonesia and Iran. These two countries differ in their forms of state and the affiliation of its people. Indonesia is not an Islamic State—albeit based on Pancasila that stresses monotheism—and the majority of its people adhere to Sunni Islam. Iran, on the other hand, is a declared Islamic Republic and the majority of its population adheres to Shiite Islam. This study is a literary review and the obtained data was analyzed using content analysis method. This study found that scholars in the two countries have developed interpretation studies, and have produced a number of Qur’anic exegesis. Naturally, Qur’anic exegesis works in Iran are Shiah in style, while those of Indonesia are Sunni in genres. Apparently, in contemporary context, Iranian scholars have been more productive than their Indonesian counterparts. Marja‘ taqlid plays a very important role in this scholarly enterprise.

Kata Kunci: Indonesia, Iran, Sunni, Syiah, Alquran, tafsir

The purpose of this study is to determine the urgency of the stories of the Qur’an and how the contents of the educational value in it. The research method in this journal uses the method of library research, then analyzed using the content analysis method, which is descriptive-analytic with the main source of the Qur'anic stories. The secondary sources consist of articles, journals, and other books related to the research topic. Education through stories is very important, because naturally it is liked by everyone at various ages. Verses and guidance in the stories of the Qur'an are also more numerous than verses that talk about the law. In the Qur'an there is a story about the people of the past, the story of the time of the Prophet and the stories of the future, and they all become one of the methods for conveying messages of faith and strengthening efforts to deliver them to mankind that lead to the values of monotheism, worship and morals and the values of da'wah. Regarding the repetition of the story of the Qur'an, the aim is to give great attention to the story so that messages are more stable and embedded in the soul. This is because repetition is one of the ways of confirmation and an indicator of how much attention is paid. Stories that contain role models can be used as lessons to be followed by goodness, while stories that cannot be exemplary can be used as lessons as a means of increasing awareness.
