Background: Infertility can result in many problems for couples. In most cases, the stress and anxiety of treating infertility can reduce fertility and affect marital disputes. The provision of counseling and informing can reduce stress and improve couples’ relationships and positively influence infertility treatment in many cases. The present study, therefore, was conducted to evaluate the effect of counseling on the stress of infertile women admitted to an infertility center in Hamadan City, Iran. Methods: The present study was performed as a two-group randomized clinical trial with two pretest and posttest stages on 104 eligible women admitted to Fatemieh Hospital in Hamadan during 2017-18. Members of the intervention group received group counseling with a cognitive-behavioral approach to stress reduction in four 1-h sessions during the 4 weeks. Data were obtained using demographic characteristics and Harry’s Stress Assessment questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21 software, paired and independent t-test, and analysis of covariance at a significance level of < 0.05. Results: Mean stress scores were 181.82 ± 15.9 and 189.11 ± 2.1 in the pre-intervention stage, and 174.6 ± 29.6 and in the test group 78.10 ± 1.3 in the post-intervention phase in the test and control groups, respectively. High-stress levels were observed in both groups before the intervention. Independent t-test revealed that mean stress scores were significantly different in the two groups at both pre- and post-intervention stages (P < 0.05). The paired t-test indicated a significantly reduced stress score in the intervention group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Stress management counseling in infertile women can play a positive and effective role in stress mitigation and promotion of their mental health. Therefore, the effect of this counseling can be more reliably emphasized on improving the effectiveness of infertility treatment.

Background: Sexual dysfunction is one of the most common causes of family breakdown. In recent years, different approaches have been used to solve this problem. Due to the negative effects of sexual dysfunction in women and its complications. Objective: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of stress management counseling on the sexual function of infertile women referred to Fatemieh Hospital in Hamadan. Methods: The present study was conducted as a randomized two-group clinical trial with two pre-test and post-test stages on 104 eligible women referring to Fatemieh Hospital in Hamadan in 2017-2018. Intervention group subjects received 4 two-hour group counseling sessions with a cognitive-behavioral approach on sexual issues. Data were obtained using two questionnaires of demographic characteristics and Female Sexual Function Index. To analyze the data, SPSS version 21 software and paired t-test, independent t-test and analysis of covariance were used. The level of significance was considered to be less than 0.05. Results: The results of the present study showed that the mean scores in all areas of total sexual function did not differ significantly before the intervention in two groups. However, after stress management counseling, a significant increase was observed in all areas and general sexual function in the intervention group compared to the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion: Stress management counseling in infertile women can play a positive and effective role in improving sexual function. Therefore, the effectiveness of this counseling in promoting sexual function can be confirmed with more confidence.

Abstract Background: The aim of the present study was to assess readiness to become or stay physically active according to the Stages of Change Model.Methods: The present quasi-experimental study was conducted on 100 women working in the healthcare centres of Bandar Abbas, Iran. The sampling method is clustering in type. The subjects were assigned into two groups of intervention and control. The collected data were analysed by SPSS-16 software using descriptive and inferential statistics, including independent-sample t-test, paired-sample t-test and Chi-square test.Results: Before the educational intervention, 19 subjects (0.38%) from the intervention group showed to have regular physical activity (4-5 stages). This number changed to 29 (0.58%) and 25 (0.50%) after three months and six months of intervention. A statistically significant difference was found before the intervention and 3 and 6 months afterwards (P˂.001). In the control group, no statistically significant difference was found between the pre-intervention and post-intervention (three months (P=.351) and six months (P=.687).Conclusion: The educational intervention based on the stages of behaviour change model showed to be effective in promoting the physical activity of employed women. These findings may benefit health education researchers and practitioners who tend to develop innovative theory-based interventions and strategies to increase the level of physical activity in women.

Vitamin D deficiency has been correlated with the infertility and lower clinical pregnancy following IVF. Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) plays a key role during follicle development; it has been recognised as a predictor of regular ovulation and probably IVF success. Considering the critical need for experimental human study to investigate the impact of vitamin D supplementation on ovulatory function, the aim of this study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of the vitamin D supplementation on AMH serum levels among reproductive-age women with vitamin D deficiency. 195 reproductive women (18–35 year-old) with confirmed vitamin D deficiency [serum 25(OH)D <75 nmol L–1] and without diagnosed polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were enrolled to this controlled clinical trial. Participants were randomly assigned to a control group (n = 96) or an intervention group (n = 99). Women in the intervention group used 2000 IU day–1 vitamin D drops for 15 weeks. 19 participants were missed during the follow-up; finally the numbers of women in the intervention and control groups were 91 and 85, respectively. At the beginning of the study and after the intervention, 25-hydroxyvitamin D and AMH serum levels were quantified using enzyme immunoassay (EIA; Immunodiagnostic Systems, Boldon, UK) and ELISA (Beckman-Coulter Inc., Fullerton, CA, USA) methods respectively. The post-intervention AMH measurement was performed after 2–5 weeks in the same day-of-cycle on which basal AMH measurement was done. Paired t-test, independent t-test, and Pearson correlation were used as appropriate and a P-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Significantly low AMH levels were seen in the vitamin D deficient women of this study (14.46 ± 11.92 pmol L–1 in control group and 14.09 ± 11.52 pmol L–1 in intervention group). After the intake of vitamin D supplementation in intervention group, AMH levels were increased to 24.89 ± 12.47 pmol L–1, which were significantly different from the 15.43 ± 13.03 pmol L–1 in control group (P < 0.001). Correlation coefficients for AMH with pre-intervention and post-intervention vitamin D were r = 0.489 and r = 0.599 respectively (P < 0.001). Treatment of vitamin D deficiency increases AMH to the optimum levels. Vitamin D deficient women had low levels of AMH. These findings support other studies which found a correlation of poor IVF outcomes with low vitamin D levels. Vitamin D supplementation could be useful in the improvement of controlled ovarian hyper-stimulation/IVF outcomes in case of vitamin D deficiency.

Background: Hypertension is an important health problem that can be controlled by self-care. Objectives: The present study aimed to determine the impact of an educational program based (BASNEF) model on knowledge and self-care behaviors for hypertensive patients in Bastak, Iran. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 180 patients with hypertension who were admitted to health centers of the Bastak city. The participants were randomly assigned to intervention (n = 90) and control (n = 90) groups. Data were collected using a questionnaire that had three sections of demographic information, knowledge, and BASNEF constructs. The questionnaires were completed before the intervention and two months after providing the intervention. After the pre-test, an appropriate educational intervention was designed and implemented only among the intervention group. To analyze the data, paired t-test, independent t-test, and Chi-square tests were run by SPSS version 19. Results: The mean age of the participants was 50.62 ± 7.549 years. The results showed a statistically significant difference in the mean scores of attitudes, subjective norms, enabling factors, and self-care behaviors in the intervention group pre- and post-intervention (P = 0.001). Besides, it was found that enabling factors (0.311) play a significant role in predicting self-care behaviors. Conclusions: The results of this study support the effectiveness of educational interventions in raising awareness and improving self-care behaviors in patients with hypertension using the BASNEF model. Therefore, with an emphasis on enabling factors, the BASNEF model can be used as a framework to develop educational interventions for self-care.

Introduction: Anemia in pregnancy is an indirect cause maternal mortality. One of causes anemia during pregnancy is deficit of nutrient especially intake of iron. The aim of this study was to know that the role of religious leaders that called “Tuan Guru” as agent of change to improving iron intake among anemia pregnant women.Methods: This study was quasi-experimental with pre and post-test group design. 86 participants pregnant women with anemia have been recruited in this study with purposive sampling technic. They were divided in intervention group (47 participants) and control group (39 participants). This study involved Tuan Guru as main intervention to give health promotion about nutrition during pregnancy. This study used food recall as an instrument tool that it used to measure nutrient intake especially intake of iron both pre and post intervention and also used questonare to measure food restriction behaviour among anemia pregnant women. Statistical test used paired t-testResults: This study show that there were effect of religious leaders to improving the iron intake among pregnant women with anemia with p=0.01. This study also found that the habits of food restriction among pregnant women are decline between before and after intervention with p=0.00.Conclusion: Tuan Guru has a strong influence in helping to increase nutritional intake and is able to minimize the food restriction behaviour among anemia pregnant women. The result of this study can be a basis for government to make a policy related to involvement of religious leaders in health promotion.

Abstract Objective The psychosocial burden of infertility among couples can be one of the most important reasons for women's emotional disturbance. The goal of the present study was to investigate the effect of counseling on different emotional aspects of infertile women. Methods The present randomized clinical trial was performed on 60 couples with primary infertility who were referred for treatment for the first time and did not receive psychiatric or psychological treatment. Samples were allocated to an intervention group (30 couples) and a control group (30 couples) by simple randomization. The intervention group received infertility counseling for 6 45-minute sessions twice a week, and the control group received routine care. The Screening on Distress in Fertility Treatment (SCREENIVF) questionnaire was completed before and after the intervention. Samples were collected from November to December 2016 for 3 months. For the data analysis, we used the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, United States) software, version 19.0, and the paired t-test, the independent t-test, the Mann-Whitney test, the Wilcoxon test, and the Chi-squared test. Results The mean age of the participants was 33.39 ± 5.67 years. All studied couples had primary infertility and no children. The mean duration of the couples' infertility was 3 years. There was a significant difference regarding depression (1.55 ± 1.92; p < 0.0001), social support (15.73 ± 3.41; p < 0.0001), and cognitions regarding domains of fertility problems (26.48 ± 3.05; p = 0.001) between the 2 groups after the intervention, but there was no significant difference regarding anxiety (25.03 ± 3.09; p = 0.35). Conclusion The findings showed that infertility counseling did not affect the total score of infertile women' emotional status, but improved the domains of it except, anxiety.

OBJETIVO: O objetivo do trabalho foi analisar os efeitos de um novo programa de intervenção na coordenação motora grossa (CMG) de crianças entre os 05 e 10 anos, avaliadas pela bateria de testes KTK. MÉTODOS: O programa foi realizado em 73 estudantes, selecionados de maneira não probabilística objetiva, com idades entre 05 e 10 anos, de uma rede municipal de ensino da cidade de Curitiba/PR, Brasil, divididos em dois grupos: Grupo Controle (GC=35) e Grupo Intervenção (GI=38). A CMG foi avaliada antes e depois da intervenção por meio da bateria de testes KTK. O programa de intervenção consistiu em 12 semanas de atividades alicerçadas nas estruturas da Técnica de Motivação Orientada Para Maestria (TARGET), e no livro “Escola da Bola – Um ABC para Iniciantes nos Jogos Esportivos”. Os efeitos foram testados utilizando o Teste de Cohen e teste t (dependente e independente).RESULTADOS: Na testagem t dependente, diferenças estatisticamente significativas foram encontradas no GI, do primeiro para o segundo momento, em todos os testes (d≥0,80). O GI obteve uma melhora significativa ao longo das 12 semanas (p0,05), enquanto no GC não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas. Na testagem t independente, no momento pré-intervenção (1º Momento), foram encontradas diferenças significativas (p0,05) nas quatro tarefas, favoravelmente ao GC. No momento pós-intervenção, diferenças estatisticamente expressivas não foram observadas entre o GI e GC. CONCLUSÃO: Conclui-se que um programa interventivo, com duração de 12 semanas, utilizando os jogos da “Escola da Bola” em conjunto com o “TARGET”, trazem melhorias significativas no desempenho coordenativo das crianças, entre 5 e 10 anos de idade.Analyses of the effects of an intervention program based on TARGET structure and “Escola da Bola” on the gross motor coordinationABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: The objectives of the work were to analyze the effects of a new intervention program on gross motor coordination (GMC) of 5 and 10 year old children, diagnosed by the KTK battery test. METHODS: The program was carried out in 73 students, selected in an objective non-probabilistic way, aged between 5 and 10 years, from a municipal education network in the city of Curitiba, Brazil, divided into two groups: Control Group (CG=35) and Intervention Group (IG=38). CMG was assessed before and after the intervention using the KTK test battery. The intervention program consisted in 12 weeks of activities based on the structures of the Mastery-Oriented Motivation Technique (TARGET), and the book “Escola da Bola – Um ABC para Iniciantes nos Jogos Esportivos”. The effects were tested using the Cohen test and t-test (dependent and independent). RESULTS: In the dependent t-test, statistically significant differences were found on the IG, from the first to the second moment, in all tests (d≥0.80). The IG achieved a significant improvement over the 12 weeks (p0,05), while in the CG there were no statistically significant differences. In the independent t-test, in the pre-intervention moment (1st Moment), significant differences (p0,05) were found on the four tasks, in favor of the CG. In the post-intervention moment, statistically significant differences were not observed between the IG and CG. CONCLUSION: It follows that an intervention program, lasting 12 weeks, using the games of “Escola da Bola” together with “TARGET”, brings significant improvements in children’s coordinative performance, between 5 and 10 years old.

Abstract Background Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is endemic in 98 countries, and 350 million people are at risk of the disease worldwide. In endemic areas, conducting educational interventions is necessary to change preventive behaviors of CL. This study aimed to investigate the effect of an educational intervention based on the BASNEF model on CL preventive behavior in students. Methods The present quasi-experimental study examined 80 students living in endemic areas of leishmaniasis in Isfahan province, Iran based on the BASNEF model. The required data were collected twice before and two months after the educational intervention based on a questionnaire whose validity and reliability had been already proven in other studies. The intervention was performed in three educational sessions for the students in the intervention group and 1 educational session for teachers and parents. Data were analyzed by SPSS (VER26) using the chi-square test, independent t-test, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), and Paired t-test. Results After intervention, the mean scores of Knowledge (P < 0.001), attitude (P = 0.02), subjective norms (P = 0.04), behavioral intention (P < 0.001), and behavior (P = 0.02) indicated significant differences between the intervention and control groups, but an increase in mean scores of enabling factors was not significant (P = 0. 93). Conclusions Providing students with the educational intervention based on the BASNEF model improve their ability to the extent that they transmit these educations to their family members, which would be effective in preventing and controlling CL in leishmaniasis-prone areas. This study addressed the development and evaluation of the Smile Program whose main objective was the prevention of depression and the promotion of well-being in adolescents. The program is based on interventions that have been shown to be efficacious (a cognitive-behavioral approach). Participants were 89 adolescents (mean age = 13.88 years; SD = 0.95) recruited from a sample of 1212 students from seven schools. Results showed a significant reduction in self-reported depressive symptoms in the intervention group (n= 51) as compared to youth in the control group (n= 38). Based on parents’ report (n=56), youth in the intervention group had significantly better self-esteem at post-test as compared to youth in the control group. At four months post intervention, youth in the intervention group had higher psychological well-being than those in the control group; at the 8-month follow-up, youth in the intervention condition reported better family self-concept.

ABSTRACT Background: In patients with life-threatening injuries, simple wounds requiring split-thickness skin grafts (SSG) often get neglected. These then need SSG once they are covered with granulation tissue through wound bed preparation. Traditionally, this is done by daily moist dressings. Recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (rhPDGF) has been shown to improve healing in chronic wounds. Aim: The present study was undertaken to compare the efficacy of rhPDGF in wound bed preparation with the current practice of daily saline dressings. Setting and Design: A prospective randomised, single-blinded study was carried out for evaluation in traumatic wounds. Materials and Methods: The patients were randomised and divided into a control group that was subjected to saline dressings and a test group that was treated with rhPDGF gel. Both the groups were then compared. The statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 16.0 and the quantitative variables were analysed using unpaired "t" test, while the pre- and post-intervention effects were assessed using paired "t" test. The 95% CI values were also included. Results: Of the 155 wounds studied, time taken for appearance of granulation tissue (in days) in the test group had a mean of 13.81 ± 2.68, while that in the control group was 13.36 ± 3.81 (P = 0.401). Complete re-epithelialisation without discharge occurred in the control group with a mean value of 28.9 ± 3.67 days, while that in the test group had a mean of 31.17 ± 4.82 days. Conclusion: There was no difference in wound healing between the patients treated with rhPDGF compared to those treated by conventional moist dressings.
