Attitudes toward aging and fear of death were examined and compared before and after completion of a course on aging or a course on death and dying. Dramatic decreases in fear of death were observed in both classes at post-test. Despite the reduction in fear, the death class maintained negative attitudes toward aging. The aging class, however, managed to maintain positive attitudes toward older adults, while at the same time reducing death anxiety. Contradictions with the existing literature are discussed, and implications are presented for course development and implementation.

When Breath Becomes Air was written by Paul Kalanithi. Death is the major thing discussed in the novel. This research investigated the manifestation of death in the novel When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. Perspective and attitude are the manifestation of death. It gives an impact on the main character’s life. The research proves that someone who is dying will experience a change of feeling and develop two attitudes (positive and negative). Negative attitudes include kind’s fear of death, and the positive attitudes are about what makes life worth living in spite of suffering and death anxiety.

This paper reports on a study that explored students’ and their parents’ attitudes towards the fairness and accuracy of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE)English test- a high stakes test in the Nepalese context. It is most probably the first empirical study that has extensively explored this area. The data generated through a longitudinal survey among 247 SEE candidates and semi-structured interviews with six students and their parents in both the pre-test and post-test contexts indicates that students had mostly positive attitudes towards the test fairness and its accuracy in the pre-test context but mostly negative attitudes in the post-test context. However, parents had mostly negative attitudes towards the test in both contexts. Both students and their parents raised questions regarding the accuracy and fairness of the listening and speaking test in the post-test context. Having collected both the qualitative and quantitative data, this study has gained a comprehensive picture of the complexity of the test impacts within the Nepalese educational context, as perceived by students and their parents. The implications of the study have also been highlighted.

A sample of 75 (16 men, and 59 women) Kuwaiti college students responded to Templer's and Collett-Lester Death Anxiety Scales, Templer, et al.'s Death Depression Scale and Abdel-Khalek's Death Obsession Scale. A general high-loaded factor of death distress was extracted using the total scores. However, in using the Collett-Lester four subscales, the Fear of Death and Dying of Others loaded on a second factor.

The present study investigated the relationship between the Templer Death Anxiety Scale and the four subscales of the Collett-Lester Fear of Death Scale. Product-moment correlations computed between 72 undergraduate nursing students' scores on these measures indicated that the two death anxiety scales were significantly correlated. Moreover, the Templer Death Anxiety Scale was most highly correlated with those Collett-Lester subscales which purportedly measure fears of one's own death and dying ( rs = .61, .51). The Templer scale appears to be not only a measure of death anxiety in general but also one of fears concerning personal demise in particular. Significant correlations between scales support their concurrent validity.

The global impact of dementia is a key healthcare priority, and although it is possible to live well with dementia, public perception is often negative. Serious digital games are becoming a credible delivery method to educate/train individuals in the business and health sectors and to challenge perceptions. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a digital game prototype on individual attitudes towards dementia. A digital game to improve public knowledge and understanding about dementia (www.dementiagame.com) was co-designed with people living with dementia and student nurses. The Game was evaluated using a pretest-posttest design. Participants for the evaluation were recruited via social media in one UK university and completed the Approaches to Dementia Questionnaire (ADQ) before and after playing the game. Overall, 457 individuals completed both pre and post test questionnaires. The total ADQ score demonstrated a significant improvement in positive attitudes (p < 0.001), and both subscales of Hope and Recognition of Personhood also saw significant improvements (p < 0.001). The use of a serious digital game has demonstrated a significant effect on the respondents’ perceptions of dementia. Overall, there was a more positive view of the abilities of people with dementia and what their capabilities were. They were also more likely to be recognised as unique individuals with the same values as any other person. The benefit of using digital gaming to improve perceptions of dementia has been demonstrated, nonetheless further research is required to reach a more diverse population and test as a Randomised Control Trial to provide definitive evidence for use in policy and practice.

Kegiatan Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi Bahasa Inggris siswi-siswi Tata Busana SMK Muhammadiyah Bangunjiwo dengan memberikan pelatihan TOEIC (Test of English as an International Communication). Kata kunci: TOEIC; kompetensi Bahasa Inggris; SMKAbstract This Community Partnership Service activity aimed to improve the competence of English students at SMK (Vocational High School) Muhammadiyah Bangunjiwo by conducting TOEIC (Test of English and International Communication) training. TOEIC is a standard of English language proficiency measurement for SMK graduates who have been set by the government through the Ministry of Education and Culture. As a new department opened in the 2017/2018 school year, the Department of Clothing of SMK Muhammadiyah Bangunjiwo has never held a TOEIC training nor TOEIC test to improve and measure the English language skills of its students. In this program, the training was held for 17 meetings, of which 2 meetings were used for the TOEIC pre-and post-test for the participants. A total of 13 participants were listed as participants in this training. Pre-test and post-test were carried out to measure participants' scores before and after training. The results showed that out of 13 training participants, 3 participants did not participate in the training nor did they participate in the pre and post-test (inactive), 4 participants only followed the post-test, 3 participants got an increased score, 2 participants got a decreased score, and 1 participant got a constant score. Overall, it can be concluded that even though the results are not significant, there are positive attitudes and things shown by the participants. The indicator is the increasing number of post-test participants (10 people) compared to the pre-test (6 people) so that it can be said that the participants' motivation rises, and the number of participants who got an increased score (3 people) is more than the participants who got a decreased score (2 people,) so that it can be said that this training is quite effective in increasing the English competence of the participants. Keywords: TOEIC; English competence; vocational school

Indicators of regular public opinion surveys are analysed in the aspect of political activity. The main attention of analysis was focused on the indicators of voting preferences ‘will not vote’, ‘don’t know’ and ‘no answer’, also on frequencies of mentioning popular politicians in an open question, neutral answers to questions about trust in President and Seimas. The empirical basis of the paper is surveys conducted in 1989–2020 and the joined file of eleven surveys in 2019. The analysis of the data shows the difference in the answers ‘don’t know who to vote for’ before and after the elections: after the elections a considerably bigger part of respondents have their opinion on voting preferences. In an open question ‘Which politicians, in your opinion, best represent your interests?’, the highest result was fixed in 1989–1990, in the time of the highest political activity in society, and the lowest was fixed in the 20s. The neutral evaluations of President are in a close connection with positive attitudes to this institution and the neutral evaluations of Seimas are in a close relation with negative attitudes to this institution.

This study was designed to determine whether an instructional unit on death and dying during an emergency medical technician (EMT) course can reduce death anxiety in EMT trainees. Participants were voluntarily enrolled in EMT courses; two intact classes were randomly assigned as treatment groups and two as comparison groups. A pre-test was administered to all participants at the beginning of the study. Treatment groups then participated in a nine-hour instructional module on death and dying. All participants were given a post-test immediately after the instruction and a delayed-test eight weeks later. There were no significant differences between groups on pre-, post-, or delayed-tests. While death anxiety generally decreased in both groups, the disengagement factor decreased only in the comparison group. Death education apparently had no more influence on death anxiety than other selected variables.
