The aim of this paper is to describe the barriers and enablers in emergency remote education from the views of language teachers amid COVID-19 pandemic. It involved eleven purposively sampled high school English language teachers in the Philippines during the school year 2021-2022. The qualitative data were processed using thematic analysis technique. The results revealed two superordinate themes: 1.) barriers of emergency remote English language education and 2.) enablers of emergency remote English language education. Under the first superordinate theme, barriers of remote emergency education, three subordinate themes emerged: 1.1.) problems in internet connection and materials; 1.2.) unfamiliarity with remote instructional design; and 1.3.) lack of skills in using remote technologies. Furthermore, under the second superordinate theme, enablers of remote emergency education, three subordinate themes were revealed: 2.1.) self-learning in using technology; 2.2.) instructional accommodations; and 2.3.) school and community support. These study outcomes provide practical insights that shape emergency remote education amid the current novel crisis. The barriers should be addressed, and the enablers should be cultivated, so that a successful remote English language education can be attained.

The study examined the criterions that school principals used to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of distance learning tools in the COVID-19 pandemic by school teachers. Six school administrators were interviewed regarding their evaluation of the technological tools used by the teachers in distance. The constant comparative method was used to analyze the interview data. The study results indicated ten criterions that served the principals in their evaluation:(1) Availability of the technological tool in students’ hands, (2) The teacher's ability to handle the tool used, (3) The fit of the used tool to the specific content, (4) The fit of the used tool to the curriculum objectives, (5) Planning the use of the tool in the classroom, (6) Use of technological tools for interactive communication in the classroom, (7)Use of technological tools to stimulate, attract and engage students in distance learning, (8) Use of technological tools to achieve quality education, (9) Use of technological tools to manage students' behavior in distance learning, and (10) Using mobile tools to encourage students’ engagement in distance learning. More research is needed to study school principals’ behavior regarding E-learning especially in emergency education.

AbstractToday, new teaching-learning models, methods, and programs are emerging to guarantee academic continuity in response to the current situation caused by the global health emergency (Covid-19). This work presents how the Flexible-Digital Model of Tecnologico de Monterrey University in Mexico was designed and implemented during this emergency in this institution. This work also addresses the relevant role that technology has taken during this situation, and the concept of Education 4.0 is offered as a framework to model the presented study. Finally, two case studies that were applied at the secondary education level are presented as an example of how higher education is supporting academic continuity at the secondary level.

This proposal is part of an ongoing research and presents the results on the perceptions and pedagogical practices experienced by students from various higher education degrees in Portuguese higher education institutions, during the period of social confinement determined by the Portuguese Government, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objective of the general research was to understand how Higher Education faculty and students experienced the digital transition to emergency education and the pedagogical practices adopted during the period. The research was based on a mixed methods approach and, in order to address the research objectives and describe the pedagogical practices implemented, specific instruments were developed for data collection. A questionnaire was developed, aimed at students, and interviews aimed at both students and faculty, focusing on technological and pedagogical dimensions, as well as the assessment of the experience. Data collection was carried out after the first lockdown, at the end of the first semester of 2020, and took place in eight higher education institutions. In this paper we will present a preliminary analysis of Questionnaire results related to two dimensions: online communication and assessment.

This paper presents a Chemistry-kit as an intervention tool to grant spaces for, hands-on learning in Chemistry, in formal Emergency Education (EE) programs. Emergencies may arise due to either civil unrests or natural catastrophes. More literature is dedicated towards the former than the latter (Burde et al., 2017). This paper aims to contribute towards filling the gap. The COVID-19 pandemic is the most recent emergency of the latter kind to promulgate a colossal impact on the formal education of children (WHO, 2020). Organisations such as UNHCR and UNESCO have been continuously working towards this endeavour of formalising secondary education (cite). EE programs lack extravagant school infrastructure, chemistry labs being a section of it. This paper argues that an analogue Chemistry-Kit is a practicable route to valuable learning experiences and is both cost-effective and student-friendly. Even in the presence of virtual schools, the kit can afford a medium to impart hands-on learning and encourage the practical essence of the subject.

Mobile systems are becoming increasingly important, and new promising paradigms such as Mobile Cloud Computing. Mobile Cloud Computing is an application that allows data to be stored and processed outside of the mobile node. There is a lot of interest in using the resources that can be accessed by transparently using distributed resource pooling offered by nearby mobile nodes. This type of device is used in emergency, education, and tourism. Systems basically use dynamic network topologies in which network partitions and disconnection occurs frequently, so the availability of the services has been compromised. In this paper proposes the context aware architecture to provide availability of the services deployed in mobile and dynamic network environments which provides better response time, the services need not be migrated at real time, so the bandwidth and energy used has been more efficient.
