Well-translated bilingual history textbook can be as a well source of language knowledge. The purposes of this research were to figure out the dominant translation shift, method and the impact of dominant shift and method on accuracy translation aspect. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to figure out the purpose of research. There are two kinds of data in this research: affective and objective data. The affective data are from key-informants in the form of scale. Objective data are from bilingual history textbook choosen randomly sampling in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences and text. The findings of this research shows that 1) The dominant translation shift is unit shift 58,33%, structure shift: 30%, class shift: 7,77% and intra-system shift: 3.88%. 2) The dominant translation method is free translation: 57.57%, communicative translation: 19.69%, adaptation translation: 13.63% and semantic translation method: 9.09%. 3) The impact unit shift and free translation method influence the lack accuracy of translation level: 2.38. There are 60% from the bilingual history textbook is lack accuracy of translation.

This study aimed to determine the many types of translation methods, how they were employed in the translation of the folklores "Deli Malay" and "Serdang Malay" from Indonesian to English, and why the translators used the prevailing types in these folklores. The descriptive qualitative method was used to perform this research. The data was gathered from a folklore book and an interview with the folklores' translator. Descriptive qualitative research is the method used to analyze the data. The findings of this study revealed that literal translation accounted for 39 sentences (16%), faithful translation accounted for 23 sentences (9%), semantic translation accounted for four sentences (2%), adaptation translation accounted for seven sentences (3%), free translation accounted for 158 sentences (64%) and communicative translation accounted for 16 sentences (6%). A total of 247 sentences were extracted from the data. Because he did not follow any theories or methods of translation when translating the texts, the translator utilized free translation as the dominating method. Instead, he evaluated the translations' target audience, youngsters, and made them acceptable and simple to understand.

This research tells about translation method of preposition. Preposition is the word that simple to translated, but it is complicate to find the good word, because there are so many meaning in dictionary. Even the translator does not always get the meaning from dictionary. This purpose of research is analyzing the translation of simple and complex preposition used in “J.D. Salinger’s Novel The Catcher in The Rye. And to find out the kinds of translation methods in translating of simple and complex preposition on it. The method of research uses descriptive qualitative method. Technique of collecting data, the researcher uses documentation. Technique of analyzing data, the researcher uses constant comparative method by Glaser and Strauss with four steps are data reduction, data categorization, data synthetization and hypothesis. The result of research is translator use four translation method of preposition. There are literal translation, semantic translation, free translation and communicative translation. mostly translator uses literal translation. Preposition has many meaning in dictionary, that’s why there are no word-for-word because researcher things that translator is process the translation of preposition. There are many kinds of preposition. The researcher dividing become two parts, are simple and complex (Randolph Quirk,1985). Simple preposition mostly available than complex in the novel. This study was aimed at investigating the use of semantic translation method in the translation of the Ḍau’u al-Misbāh fī Bayāni Ahkāmi al-Nikāh by K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari. A descriptive qualitative method was used in this study. After translating the data objects, the analysis process was carried out by describing the use of semantic translation method applied to translate the text. The results of this study revealed that semantic translation method used in translating Ḍau’u al-Misbāh fī Bayāni Ahkāmi al-Nikāh was an effective method to use in translating such classical texts, in which it eases the translator to produce translations that are acceptable in the target language (TL), easy to understand, and as closely as possible with the meaning of the sourch language (SL), and help the translator to preserve the writer's ideas.

Abstract : This study aimed at describing the process and result of translation of English idiomatic expressions in Zootopia into Indonesian context. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through observation. The researcher watched Zootopia while identifying the idiomatic expressions appeared in the movie. The idioms then were translated into Bahasa Indonesia by using various translation methods. The result of the study revealed that four English idiomatic expressions have the similar form and meaning with Bahasa Indonesia idioms. Many of the English idioms have the equal meaning of idiomatic expressions but appear in different forms. Other idioms do not have the idioms with equal meaning, thus they were translated by using free translation method. Finally, there is one English word adopted in Bahasa Indonesia since this word refers to a job that does not exist in Indonesian context, meter maid.   Keywords: Translation, idiomatic expressions, English, Bahasa Indonesia   Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses dan hasil terjemahan idioma bahasa Inggris di film Zootopia ke dalam konteks bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi. Prosedur penelitian yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti menonton zootopia sambil mengidentifikasi idiom yang muncul di film. Idiom-idiom itu kemudian diterjemahkan ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia dengan menggunakan berbagai metode terjemahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa empat ungkapan idiomat bahasa Inggris memiliki bentuk dan makna yang mirip dengan idiom Bahasa Indonesia. Banyak idiom bahasa Inggris yang memiliki padanan makna yang sama dengan idiom bahasa Indonesia tetapi muncul dalam bentuk lain. Idiom yang tidak memiliki padanan idiom di dalam bahasa Indonesia, sehingga diterjemahkan dengan menggunakan metode penerjemahan bebas. Terakhir, ada satu idiom bahasa Inggris yang diadopsi dalam Bahasa Indonesia karena idiom ini merujuk pada pekerjaan yang tidak ada dalam konteks Indonesia, yaitu meter maid.   Kata kunci: Penerjemahan, idiom, bahasa Inggris, bahasa Indonesia

This research was conducted to find out the translation methods applied by the translator in translating figurative language in O. Henry’s short stories. This descriptive analysis research took the data from nine short stories as the research documents. There were 19 data taken from those nine short stories. The data were collected by analysis of document. Based on the research findings, from nine short stories, seven simile, three metaphor, three hyperbole were literal translation, two simile were semantic translation, two hyperbole were communicative translation, one hyperbole was idiomatic translation, and one simile was translated free translation. In conclusion, the findings of the study indicated that the result of literal translation was significantly higher than others translation methods. The result is expected to be helpful to improve students’ and readers references of translation method.

Abstrak: Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh John McGlynn dalam menerjemahkan tiga puisi Taufik Ismail, yaitu “Pantun Bulan Terang di Midwest”, “Adakah Suara Cemara”, dan “Bulan”. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif.  Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah tiga puisi Taufik Ismail dalam bahasa Indonesia dan hasil terjemahannya dalam bahasa Inggris oleh John H. McGlynn, dengan judul “Full Moon in the Midwest”, “Is it the Sound of Pines” dan “The Moon”. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa strategi penerjemahan puisi yang digunakan dalam ketiga puisi Taufik Ismail ini bervariasi, yaitu metode penerjemahan literal, metode penerjemahan bait secara bebas, dan metode penerjemahan interpretasi, sedangkan strategi penerjemahan secara umum yang digunakan adalah strategi penerjamahan struktural dan semantik dengan menggunakan penghilangan (omission), padanan budaya (cultural eqiuivalent), modulasi, dan transposisi.Kata Kunci: strategi, penerjemahan, taufik ismail, john mcglynn Abstract: This study aims to describe the translation strategy used by John McGlynn in translating the three poems of Taufik Ismail namely “Pantun Bulan Terang di Midwest”, “Adakah Suara Cemara” and “Bulan”. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data sources are three poems of Taufik Ismail in Indonesian and the results of their translation in English by John H. McGlyn. namely “Full Moon in the Midwest”, Is it the Sound of Pines” and “Bulan”. The results of the data analysis show that the strategy of translating poetry used to translate the poems are vary, among others, literal translation, free translation, and interpretation translation, meanwhile the general translation strategy used are structural and semantic translation strategies using omission, cultural equality, modulation, and transposition.Keywords: strategy, translation, taufik ismail, john mcglynn

<p><em>The aims of the study are  to identify types of sentences in the CIF sponsor letters and the text function or translation purpose in target text; to describe the translation techniques, methods, and ideology in achieving the translation purpose; to identify the impact of the translation techniques, methods, and ideology applied to the translation quality in terms of the accuracy of the accuracy, acceptability and readability; and to assess the translation techniques, methods and ideology selected in achieving the translation purpose.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>This study is a descriptive, qualitative research and focused on a single case. Sources of the data were 10 pairs CIF sponsor letters and the informants who gave information about accuracy, acceptability and readability of translation. Techniques of collecting data were document analysis, queestionnaires and FGD. Purposive sampling was applied in this research.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>Findings of this research show the followings. The types of sentenses are declaratives,interrogatives, imperatives and exclamatives. The result shows 15 functions of illocutionary act. There are 14 kinds of translation techniques to overcome the translation problems, 13,67% tends to the source text and 86,33% tents to the target text. The translation methods tends to communicative translation method and free translation method with domestication ideology. The impact of the the application of those translation techniques, methods and ideology toward the quality of translation is satisfactory with the average score of 2,84. This value indicates the accuracy, acceptance and readability of this translation is satisfactory. This study aimed to find out the method used in translating Batak Toba Proverbs into English and explain the reasons for the translation method used in Mangala Pakpahan’s book: Batak Toba character kearifan Indonesia. The research was conducted by using the descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from Mangala Pakpahan’s book that contained 72 proverbs from the Batak Toba language. The findings of the study showed that not all methods were used in translating the proverbs. They were the adaptation translation method (69.44%), followed by the communicative translation method (12.5%), free translation method (11.12%), and the last was the exact translation method (6.94%). Moreover, the reason for using the translation method in translating the proverbs was the translation sounds natural even though in the form of proverbs and is still focused on English grammatical rules. Translation method was also the easier way to be understood by the reader, and it keeps retaining the translation of the proverbs without altering the original meaning.

The first goal of the research was to figure out translation methods and shifts applied in translating bilingual textbooks of History, Mathematics, and Physics, Those bilingual textbooks were published by Quadra, Yramawidia, and Yudhisthira, used for grade seven in Medan. The second was to figure out the impact of translation methods and shifts which dominant on translation quality. The third was to recommend better bilingual textbooks to use based on the translation quality point of view. The research used a descriptive qualitative research method with a questionnaire, depth-interview, and observation on a pair of translation to collect the data. The data were analyzed with interactively and non-interactively. Based on the data analysis, the research finds that (1) the dominant shift on History textbook is unit shift while the dominant method is a free translation, the dominant shift on Physics is a unit shift and dominant method is a communicative translation, the dominant shift on Mathematics is structure shift and dominant method is communicative translation. The second finding is that the impact of the dominant translation shift and method on the History textbook is negative. At the same time, in Mathematics and Physics are positive. Third, the research; the researcher recommends bilingual textbooks of Mathematics and Physics to use based on translation quality point of view. The well bilingual textbooks can improve students’ language skills, while low translation quality influences bad development to students on learning the language.
