The Relationship Between Anterior Teeth Retraction with The Lip Shape During Treatment on Bimaxillary Protrusion Using Begg Technique. The changes of hard tissue at the third lower area of the face affect the changes of the soft tissue. The movement of the anterior teeth influences lip shape which is in direct contact with these. This research aims to determine the relationship between the change of anterior teeth position and the change of upper and lower lips after orthodontic treatment on bimaxillary dental protrusion with Begg technique in adult Javanese. The research was conducted to 17 pairs of lateral setalogram on patients aged 18 to 35 with bimaxilar protrusion after and before treatment. Each setelogram measured the change of anterior teeth position (measured as the horizontal distance from the incisal tip to a constructed vertical to sella) and the change of upper and lower lips (measured as thickness and length of the lips). Data on anterior teeth position changes and lips changes were analysed using Pearson product moment correlation test and regression analysis. The result showed that there was a positive correlation between the change of anterior teeth position and the change in thickness and length of the upper and lower lips. The thickness of the upper and lower lips increased significantly (p<0,05). The length of upper and lower lips increased significantly too (p<0,05). Based on the research, it is concluded that treatment for on bimaxillary protrusion with Begg technique on the upper and lower anterior teeth retraction increases the thickness and length of upper and lower lips

Abstract Objectives: To test the hypothesis that the sagittal position of the anterior teeth has no effect on pharyngeal airway dimension or hyoid bone position and to investigate the influence of orthodontic retraction of the anterior teeth on each section of pharynx and hyoid position. Materials and Methods: Forty-four Class I bimaxillary protrusion adults, treated with preadjusted appliances and maximum anchorage after extraction of four premolars, were divided into two groups according to their vertical craniofacial skeletal patterns. Pretreatment and posttreatment variables were compared using paired t-test, and the relationship between pharyngeal airway size and dentofacial variables was analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient. The changes of pharyngeal airway size and hyoid position after treatment were compared between two groups using independent t-test. Results: Upon retraction of the incisors, the upper and lower lips were retracted by 2.60 mm and 3.87 mm, respectively. The tip of upper incisor was retracted by 6.84 mm and lower incisor retracted by 4.95 mm. There was significant decrease in SPP-SPPW, U-MPW, TB-TPPW, V-LPW, VAL, C3H, and SH (P < .05). No statistically significant different changes were observed in the dentofacial structures, pharyngeal airway, and hyoid position between the two groups after the treatment. There was a significant correlation between the retraction distance of lower incisor and the airway behind the soft palate, uvula, and tongue. Conclusions: The pharyngeal airway size became narrower after the treatment. Extraction of four premolars with retraction of incisors did affect velopharyngeal, glossopharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, and hyoid position in bimaxillary protrusive adult patients.

This study aims to look at the relationship between religiosity and death in older adults. The subject selection technique was done by purposive sampling consisting of 48 elderly adults. This study uses a non experimental quantitative approach. Hypothesis testing is done through the Pearson product moment correlation statistical test using the SPSS application. This study proves that there is a negative linear relationship between religiosity and anxiety of death in older adults. this proves that religious older adults have lower anxiety in the face of death. On the other hand, older adults with a low religious level proved to be more anxious in facing death.

In cases requiring extraction of four first premolars, ensuring maintenance of adequate posterior anchorage and proper inclination of the teeth adjacent to the extraction sites during space closure can be difficult. The Invisalign G6 first premolar extraction solution has been developed to specifically address these problems. This case report describes the treatment of a 30-year-old woman whose main concerns were related to her protrusive and malaligned anterior teeth. Clinical findings revealed, among others, bimaxillary anterior protrusion and moderate-to-severe anterior crowding. A treatment approach involving extraction of the four first premolars was chosen, followed by orthodontic treatment with the Invisalign G6 first premolar extraction solution and Invisalign aligners. At the completion of 19.5 months of aligner treatment, the patient’s anterior teeth were retracted and uprighted, resulting in an improvement in her lip profile. Normal overjet and overbite were also achieved along with alleviation of the anterior crowding. The patient was extremely happy with the treatment results.

Objective: To conduct a systematic review of the literature about the factors that drive patients toward satisfaction after orthodontic treatment. Material and Methods: The review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42013004528). Four databases as well as the reference lists and citations of the included publications were searched according to PRISMA guidelines, yielding 6.387 titles and abstracts. Two reviewers performed data collection independently and a third reviewer was included, if there was no consensus. Results: Nine surveys (2.742 participants) remained after data extraction and interpretation. A total of 14 findings were abstracted from the reports and were grouped together into 4 topics that were judged to be similar: treatment, aesthetics, function and social well-being. The main findings for adherence based on their calculated frequency effect sizes were: self-perception of esthetics of teeth (44%); harmony of the teeth with other structures of the face (44%); alignment of anterior teeth (33%); greater comfort, absence of pain and improved chewing/ eating (33%); social well-being (33%); treatment was worth it (33%). Conclusion: Despite the few studies and limitations related to the report and data quality, the evidence showed the main factor leading to patient satisfaction was improved aesthetics. Chewing, absence of pain, social wellbeing and the way treatment was conducted were highlighted as reasons for patient satisfaction after orthodontic treatment. ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the stability of maxillary interincisor diastema closure and the relationship between space relapse and interincisor diastema width, overjet, overbite, angulations between adjacent maxillary anterior teeth and presence of intermaxillary osseous cleft after orthodontic treatment with extractions. Materials and Methods Twenty-four individuals with a maxillary interincisor diastema pretreatment, treated with maxillary first premolar extractions were evaluated. Dental casts and panoramic radiographs taken at pretreatment (T1), posttreatment (T2), and posttreatment follow-up (T3) were assessed. Periapical radiographs at T1 and T2 were also evaluated. Diastema relapse was assumed when T3-T2 interincisor space change was greater than zero. Diastema relapse was considered clinically significant when it was at least 0.50 mm. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance followed by post hoc Tukey tests or Friedman followed by Wilcoxon tests. T-test or Mann-Whitney U-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analyses were also performed. Results No statistically significant relapse of maxillary interincisor diastemas was found. The percentage of clinically significant relapse of the maxillary interincisor diastemas was 27.78%. Specifically, for the interincisor midline diastema, it was 8.33%. Conclusions Maxillary interincisor diastema closure showed no statistically significant relapse after orthodontic treatment with premolar extractions. Clinically significant stability for maxillary interincisor diastema closure was 72.22% and, specifically, for interincisor midline diastema closure, it was 91.67%.

Aims. To evaluate the role of third molars in the development of crowding or relapse after orthodontic treatment in the anterior segment of the dental arch.Methods. PubMed search of the literature was performed selecting all the articles relevant to the topic and limiting the studies to controlled trials on humans and written in English language. Systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) statement.Results. A total of 12 clinical studies were included in the review. A high risk of bias was found in most of the articles, either because the relative items assessed were inadequate or because they were unclearly described. The third molars were not correlated with more severe anterior tooth crowding in most of the studies. However, four of them described a different outcome.Conclusion. Definitive conclusions on the role of the third molars in the development of anterior tooth crowding cannot be drawn. A high risk of bias was found in most of the trials, and the outcomes were not consistent. However, most of the studies do not support a cause-and-effect relationship; therefore, third molar extraction to prevent anterior tooth crowding or postorthodontic relapse is not justified.

AbstractThe current heated debate on the deteriorating status of the university raises a range of pertinent questions, including: What role can the humanities play in culture today in the face of the crisis of higher education? To answer this question, the authors begin by problematizing the relationship between culture, the humanities, and education. In the second part of the paper, they examine the changing role of the humanities in conjunction with the understandings of culture, and outline three salient ways in which culture is conceived of today. Subsequently, they focus on the loss of the dominant status that culture suffered when everyday life was discovered in modernity. In the third part, they argue that everyday life, or rather social representations of everyday life and its practices, are currently becoming the chief criterion for assessing culture, the humanities, and education. However, everyday life remains complex both in theoretical conceptualizations and in research observations. For example, everyday life harbors a range of risks and anxieties which are veiled by its own obviousness and reinforced by socialization. The authors conclude that, given this, everyday life in democratic societies calls for the work of understanding, support, affirmation, and criticism, in which the humanities can retain their superior status. In the fourth part, the authors discuss non-consensual democracy, critical community, and the pedagogy of asylum as the forms of organization and action that promote an auspicious interconnection of culture, the humanities, and education.
