Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is highly contagious disease occurred by the severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) which spreads human to human through respiratory secretions. It was declared as public health emergency all over the world. There is lack of data in relation to the otologic or mastoid surgery during COVID-19 pandemic. Aerosolization of the novel corona virus SARS-CoV-2 is associated with middle ear and mastoid surgery. So, the safety precautions are important parts in this present pandemic time for preventing transmission of the infections to the surgeon and team members of the surgery. Preoperative screening for COVID-19 is must for safety of the surgeon and team members. The mastoid surgery on the positive, suspected or unknown status for COVID-19 patients need protection with adequate Personal protection equipment (PPE) such as disposable cap, N95 respirator and sealed eye protection or Powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR), disposable gown and gloves. In the mastoid surgery, there is scarcity of the medical literature related to the transmission of the novel corona virus SARS-CoV-2and its prevention during present COVID-19 pandemic. So, the aim of this review article is to increase awareness among the otolaryngologists for preventing the viral exposure during the mastoid surgery.

Background. In the past two years, the incidence of the novel coronavirus (CoV) infection COVID-19 (COrona Virus Disease-2019) has been a serious problem for the global community. Considering these circumstances, new molecules and already registered drugs that have proven their effectiveness in other diseases, began to be actively used in COVID-19 treatment. Objectives: to assess the effi cacy of eculizumab in patients with severe COVID-19. Patients/Methods. Three clinical cases of eculizumab use as a part of complex therapy in patients with severe COVID-19 have been analyzed. To assess the treatment efficacy, the main clinical and laboratory parameters and indicators of inflammatory process in coronavirus infection were monitored (clinical blood analysis, biochemical blood test, levels of ferritin, C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, lactate dehydrogenase and membrane attack complex). Results. Under the therapy we found the reduction of concentration of the main inflammation markers relative to the initial values. Conclusions. Complex therapy with eculizumab facilitates the course of the disease, reduces the stay duration of patients in the intensive care unit, shortens the period of artificial lung ventilation, thereby reducing the mortality rate.

Introduction: This highly infective new virus, named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (Sars-CoV-2), is a corona virus responsible of an acute respiratory syndrome, often asymptomatic but potentially lethal, named Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19). Airborne and direct contact contamination is a major infection pathway of Sars-CoV-2. SARS-CoV-2 transmission during dental procedures can therefore happen through the inhalation of aerosol/droplets from infected individuals or direct contact with mucous membranes, oral fluids, and contaminated instruments and surfaces .Therefore, dentists have a high risk of getting infected from patients and potentially spreading it to their peers, families, and other patients. Aim: To evaluate fear and assess practice modification among dentist against COVID-19 in India Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study a total of 260 general dental practitioners, postgraduates and graduates across Central India, who were registered under the Dental Council of India, were included in the survey. A questionnaire consisting of 22 Questions with regard to COVID -19 fear and practice modification was designed and the questionnaire was circulated through a web designed program. The responses were collected, and data were analyzed descriptively using SPSS Statistics for Windows version 27.0. Results: There is a description of the fear and anxiety levels of dental care professionals towards COVID-19; 83.85% of participants were afraid of getting infected with COVID-19 from either a patient or a co-worker. While treating a coughing or a patient suspected to be infected with COVID-19, 90% were anxious. In terms of using personal protection, 63.85% believed that a surgical mask is not enough to prevent cross-infection of COVID-19. In comparison, 93.08% favored the use of N-95 masks for routine dental procedures during the current outbreak. Although the majority 91.15% recommended routine universal precautions of infection control. Conclusion: Overall, this study sheds light on the association of COVID-19 factors and fear and anxiety elevated among dentists during working in this pandemic. Covid-19 spread all over world and is worsening day by day. On current scenario several dental practices have either modified their services according to recommended guidelines to emergency treatment only, or closed down practices for an uncertain period.

The outbreak of coronavirus disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is declared pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO) keeping in view its infection rate and toxicity level. The entire world is struggling hard to survive the prevailing health emergency. The authors realise the urgent need of contributing an overview of the present scenario to the researchers who are breathlessly trying to combat this pandemic situation. This review aimed at binding all the scattered data and research available till now on COVID-19 disease starting from its origin to transmission and spread through environmental factors till treatment and the safety measures that should be implemented. This article would possibly help the readers by providing an outlook of current scenario on various perspectives of COVID-19 disease at a single glance. The types, origin and toxicity caused are discussed in brief. The role of contaminated aerosols (viral-laden smoke from tobacco, cigarettes), wastewater, fomites, human and faecal matter are important in spreading the novel coronavirus in the environment. There is no specific treatment till date but clinical trials and diagnosis on several known drugs are on-going. The precaution and safety measures could hopefully reduce number of infections and mortality. The number of infected cases confirmed till 2 August 2020 was 17660523 with 680894 deaths in the world. We tried in this review article to summarize the scattered data available on biochemistry of SARS-CoV-2, environmental spread of virus and the safety measures to combat COVID-19 pandemic.

Misinformation during the COVID-19 outbreak has shaped our perception of the disease. Some people thinkthe disease is a bioweapon while others are convinced that it is a hoax. Heightened anxiety often producesfearful rumors, some of which are absurd while others seem plausible and are laced with some truths. But, how does misinformation affect disease spread? In this paper, we construct a mathematical model parameterized by Ugandan data, to study the effect of misinformation on community COVID-19 spread. The analysis shows that misinformation leads to high number of COVID-19 cases in a community, and the effect is highest in the rumour initiators and spreaders. This analysis underscores the importance of addressing misinformation in COVID risk communication.
