The purpose of this research explained how Problem Based Learning (PBL) designed in teaching and learning English for Vocational School students in Indonesia. A PBL was used for overcoming critical thinking skill in teaching English at vocational school. The sample consisted of tenth grade of vocational school students who were recruited purposively. The research methodology used qualitative and qualitative method. Interview was used to get data about instructional and students’ needs. Questionnaire was used to obtain expert validation during teaching and learning process, and a test was used to obtain the effectiveness. The results of expert validation showed that the design of this learning strategy was good and can be used in learning English. It was effective in English as Foreign Language teaching strategy for vocational school in Blega of Bangkalan. Thus, it could be implemented in the teaching and learning English for vocational school students in enhancing students’ critical thinking.

This research is to apply and develop a strategy of problem-based learning to increase the ability of higher order thinking skills of senior vocational schools students. The research was done due to a fact that the quality of outputs of the senior vocational schools has not met the competency needed by the stakeholders in the field, that has made the outputs difficult to get jobs, or fail to run a private business of their own. This research is a quasi experiment applying Nonequivalent Control Group Design, done at X TKR 1 class of 38 students and X TKR 2 class of 38 students of Senior Vocational School II, Kupang, NTT Province, Indonesia. The normality and homogeneity of tests were done to obtain the test of analysis requirement. T-test was done to analyze the data obtained. The results show that: (1) the use of problem-based learning strategy is superior to the conventional study; (2) the application of problem-based learning strategies capable of improving high order thinking skills of students, which is implemented in problem solving skills, teamwork, and self-confidence better. (3) in the future, the high order thinking skills will be very important in winning the job competition, find solutions to problems in the workplace and establish good cooperation with others, so it will support the success of their careers in the future.

This study aims to determine the differences in mathematical communication skills of students in the material opportunities by using PBL and CTL learning models in class X of the Al-Istiqomah Private Vocational School in the Regency of Java. This type of research is semi-experimental. The population in this study were all students of class X of Private Al-Istiqomah Vocational School, Regency of Java. The research sample was 2 classes. The results of the research obtained F_count> F table which is 15.31> 3.99, so to test the hypothesis it can be concluded that rejecting H0 means thank Ha, there are differences in mathematical communication skills of students taught using problem based learning models with students taught using Contextual Teaching learning models Lerning. There are differences in mathematical communication skills of students taught using a problem-based learning model compared to students who are taught using the 9% Contextual Teaching Lerning learning model

Research on the use of games in learning has been growing rapidly. However, the material delivery is still conventional, without considering any certain learning methods. Yet, the method in learning is a factor that determines the success of teaching. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to find out how the implementation of Problem Based Learning model in the development of maze game of multimedia learning used. Maze game of multimedia learning devel-oped was implemented to the students of vocational school students. The results showed that the implementation of Problem-Based Learning in maze game of multimedia learning is worthed and categorized as excellent accord-ing to not only validation of expert of subject matter and media, but also students’ response.

Kata kunci: pengembangan, perangkat pembelajaran, kemampuan penalaran, komunikasi matematika Developing Problem Based Learning Kits Oriented Toward Reasoning Ability and Math Communication of Students for Sequences and for Series Materials AbstractThis study aims to produce  problem-based learning kits which are valid, practical, and effective oriented toward mathematical reasoning ability and mathematics  communication of  Vocational School of Hotel acomodatioan.  This study was a research and  development study. It developed learning kits using   Borg and Gall development model, and the model was  modified so that it included only Define, Design, and Develop.   This study produced learning kits for the problem-based learning oriented reasoning ability and communication students for the topic of sequence and series. The kits consisted of lesson plan, student work sheet, and achievement test. The results of the validation   show that the developed kits are feasible to use and in the good category. The results of tryouts showed that the developed kits  are practical and effective to develop mathematics reasoning ability and mathematics communication of the students. The Practicality in tryout  was in good category with an average capability of being implemented in learning of 83.33 % and the field tryout us in the good category  with an average of improvement of 90.33%. Based on the  achievement test, it shows that  the achievement of learning outcomes with a minimum completeness is 78.33 %.Keywords: development, reasoning ability, communication of mathematics

One of the problems in teaching English to students in vocational high schools is how to make the students more active, creative, and critical. An alternative teaching method that can be used by teachers is Problem-Based Learning (PBL). The objective of this study is to investigate whether the use of PBL provides a significant effect on the students’ writing descriptive text. This study used a quasi-experimental design which was conducted at a vocational school in Malang. The participants of this study were class X Office Administration 1 as the experimental group consisting of 23 students and class X Office Administration 3 as the control group consisting of 23 students. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test and compared the participants’ writing scores in the control and experimental groups by using an independent sample t-test. The result of the post-test indicates that the students in the experimental group achieved a higher mean score than those in the control group on writing descriptive text. The statistical analysis reports that there was a significant difference in scores between the two groups (t = 6.99, p < 0.05). This finding indicates that PBL can be an effective method for teachers in teaching writing descriptive text.
