Palavras: envelhecimento, aposentadoria, aspectos psicossociais, psicogerontologia e logoterapia. HEALTH AND MEANING OF LIFE: AGING EXPERIENCES This study’s aim was to understand how elderly individuals experience health and the meaning of life, and how psychosocial aspects influence the aging process. Using a descriptive-qualitative methodology based on the logotherapy approach and Frankl’s existential analysis, this study has an integrative nature, seeking conceptions of will to meaning, meaning of life, and freedom to activate will. Five interviews were held with elderly individuals from the UFRR’s extension group, Girassol. The following thematic axes were identified: routine aging experiences; interpersonal relationships as social support; health and bodily difficulties encountered in daily life; and perception of finitude and desires and/or dreams to be achieved. Most participants report that family is essential in an individual’s life, followed by friends and social groups, who help them cope with everyday life. Some resignify the loss of their occupations at a time they had not yet prepared for retirement. Even though they experience tension due to psychosocial transformations, they show themselves in existence between being and must-be. They addressed the body topic, which makes them respect limitations imposed by reality, seeking wellbeing and quality of life in everyday life. Key words: aging, retirement, psychosocial aspects, psychogerontology, and logotherapy.

AbstractSpurred by Kilpatrick’s (1987) “Where do good problems come from?”, this study explores problem-posing triggers of experienced problem posers for mathematics competitions. Triggers are conceived as instances of noticing, where an impulse draws a poser’s attention and “triggers off” a mathematical re-action, one of the outcomes of which is a creation of a problem that gets accepted to some mathematics competition. The data were collected from 26 problem posers residing in nine countries, and who had experience in creating problems for national, regional, and international competitions. Three types of triggers emerged from the analysis: (i) Instances where the participants extracted mathematical phenomena from activities that are replete with modern elementary mathematics. These triggers were described in emotionally loaded terms that resonated with appreciation, surprise, challenge, and feeling of innovation. (ii) Cases where the participants abstracted mathematical phenomena from common everyday-life tasks in which mathematical optimization was beneficial. These situations emphasized participants’ desire to compensate for self-disappointment with an initially made decision and the value of finding a better alternative. (iii) Situations where the participants were asked to pose a problem ‘here and now’. The posers were unanimous in their dislike of such situations. They elaborated on how difficult it is to pose ‘here and now’ and highlighted the low quality of the resulting problems. The findings are situated in the body of knowledge on expert problem posing and educational literature on school students and teachers.

Abstract: We seek to recognize, in this paper, the conditions of the daily lives of women who have received prison sentences and those who work in the Women's Penitentiary Madre Pelletier. Therefore, this research uses a qualitative methodology based on an empirical study of the prison’s reality; data were obtained in 2015, with the use of a focus group with five prisoners and questionnaire to 14 prison officers, as well as collection of prints in other studies and the experience of one of the researchers, who has been working there for more than five years. In addition, we use as a source, among others, records in the institution’s books and relevant bibliography. We conclude that, with the end of overcrowding in 2012, the quality of life improved in both groups. Before, interpersonal relationships between inmates happened with more violence (caused by leaders who imposed rules). Thus, even though the prison system continues to violate human rights of the arrested, more rights are respected today than when there was overcrowding. Keywords: Human rights; Criminology; Prisons; Madre Pelletier Women’s Prison; Overcrowding.

-- The purpose of this work is to characterize the experiences related to the meaning of life that elderly women with feelings of loneliness build. Through qualitative methodology, the narratives were examined under the four Fundamental Motivations of Existential Analysis by Alfried Längle, which revealed a loss of meaning of life and a lack of connection with the world. Findings show a great pain due the loss in the quality of affective relationships with their immediate surroundings, where they do not teel recognized or appreciated. Even when a weak meaning of life is observed, these women struggle to find a reason to live.

Interactions with dying and bereaved people in modern society are frequently marked by awkwardness, embarrassment, and silence, reactions that influence the patterns of care people receive near the end of life, as well as the quality of their interpersonal relationships. These reactions are usually interpreted in terms of personal psychology and individual behavior, which gives rise to remedies for health professionals in the form of communications skills training and personal self-awareness. From the perspective of social and cultural history, however, these reactions are a manifestation of shame induced by exposure to, or reminders of, the physical body—its functions and its disintegration—that the processes of “civilization” have progressively demanded be kept out of sight and out of consciousness. Changes in behavior from this perspective will depend on long-term social movements that bring the body and its functions within the boundaries of acceptable personal reflection and social engagement.

Internet diffusion in everyday life has brought dramatic changes in a person’s relation to his/her body. These changes need to be considered and maybe tacked as intervention points in Psychotherapy. In the present paper, in particular, three issues concerning non explicit politics of body management in internet are critically examined. These are a) the objectification of the body due to the prevalence of the image in the social media b) the impact internet porn has on interpersonal relationships and the sexual behavior and c) the escape to the internet world through the adoption of various virtual personas, vis a vis- their avatars. For the purposes of the present paper some clinical cases are also illustrated. The highlighting of this subject can be very useful in psychotherapeutic practice, since the body and the politics related to it are not traditionally the main focus of attention in psychotherapy. In addition, clients are nowadays frequently discussing problems related to their presence and life, as a whole, on the internet.

-- The purpose of this work is to characterize the experiences related to the meaning of life that elderly women with feelings of loneliness build. The main focus of this research is on the self-concept and pedagogical competence of the teacher and its influence on the quality of the learning process both partially and double. The research method used is a survey method in which the authors go directly to the empirical level by distributing questionnaires to 47 teachers. The processing and analysis techniques used are linear and multiple regression. The results of the study show that: (1) There is a positive and significant influence of the teacher's self-concept on the quality of the learning process (2) There is a positive and significant influence on the teacher's pedagogical competence on the quality of the learning process. (3) There is a positive and significant effect of self-concept and pedagogical competence of teachers together on the quality of the learning process. Therefore, the authors suggest: (1) So that the teacher improves health and appearance because the results of the study show that the weakness of the teacher's self-concept is in the appearance and significance of the body. So that the teacher needs to be given enlightenment related to how to maintain health and fitness through the implementation of joint gymnastics or conducting group discussions related to the dirt to maintain a prime body. (2) To face future competition and improve the quality of education it is deemed necessary to further increase the pedagogical competence of teachers, especially those related to planning and evaluation of learning.
