Seven genetic clades have been recognized within the species Vipera ammodytes (nose-horned viper); however, the precise phylogenetic position of many Balkan populations is unknown. We used Bayesian analysis of the mtDNA sequences from the 16S rRNA mtDNA gene obtained from 47 individuals (26 novel samples sequenced in this study and 21 sequences available from GenBank). Our results show that sampled nose-horned vipers from localities in Serbia are clustered within three clades: the northeastern (23 individuals), the northwestern (two individuals) and the southeastern (one individual). Results revealed an overlapping distribution of the northeastern and the northwestern clades in two populations. We have revealed that the northeastern clade extends further south than previously suggested, to the Ohrid/Prespa lakes in North Macedonia. Our findings contribute to the knowledge of the genetic diversity of this species in Serbia and help to clarify the geographical distributions of mtDNA-defined clades. <p>In this work we analyse variations in VLF/LF radio signal amplitudes recorded by the INFREP network in the period 16 November – 6 December, 2019 characterized by very intensive seismic activities in the Balkan peninsula, Crete, and Adriatic, Aegean and Black seas. Namely, 38 earthquakes with magnitude greater than 4.0 occurred in this area during the noticed period; the most intensive of them occurred on 26 and 27 November: three events in Albania (M<sub>w</sub>= 6.4, 5.3, 5.1), one in Crete (M<sub>w</sub>= 6), one in Bosnia and Herzegovina (M<sub>w</sub>= 5.4) and two in Adriatic sea (M<sub>w</sub>= 5.4, 5.3). We study both long- and short- term variations that are already recorded in earlier studies. The long-term variations relate to changes in the amplitude intensities in periods of several days and their existence is shown in many previous studies. The recent analyses also indicate short-term variations in signal amplitude noises started about several tents of minutes before the earthquake (Nina et al. 2020). In this work, we analyse different areas using INFREP network, which allow us to study local changes in the atmosphere. In order to examine possible precursors we considered longer time started and ended 10 days before and after the most intensive of the considered earthquakes, respectively.</p><p>This research is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, under the projects 176002 and III44002.</p><p>References</p><p>Nina, A., S. The International Thematic Proceedia titled „Psychology in the world of science” is a publication from the 16th International Conference “Days of Applied Psychology” held on September 25th & 26th 2020 at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Niš. This is a traditional annual nonprofit conference which has been organized since 2005 by the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Niš, with the support and co-financing of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. The conference started with the idea of gathering researchers and practitioners who discuss the link between science and practice in different psychological areas. From the very start, this gathering has welcomed international participants, and year after year this number is on the rise. This scientific publication contains 18 peer-reviewed articles which can be classified as original scientific papers and as review papers. The authors of these manuscripts come from six countries: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Republic of Serbia.

The goal was to examine demographic differences between former communist regions and other regions of the EU. Besides providing a regional overview of EU?s demographic differences, we question whether the subnational approach offers any new insights into the East-West divide. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 1,155 EU?s NUTS3 regions from 2014. These regions are grouped in two groups: regions that were part of a com-munist country, and other regions. Mortality, fertility and age structure indicators were tested between the two groups of regions. GDP/c was used to control for differences in economic development by segmenting the regions into tree brackets: low, medium, and high. The differences were then tested for each indicator. Regional variation within countries for each indicator was also assessed. The gaps exist at regional level and are the widest with mortality and fertility schedule, regardless of GDP/c. Former communist regions on average tend to be slightly younger. Analysis of regional variation showed that subnational approach was warranted when studying East-West demographic disparities, especially when it comes to fertility schedule. SummaryForum of the European Societies of Clinical Chemistry (FESCC) decided that the FESCC Symposium for Balkan Region would be held each year in Belgrade and organized by the Society of Medical Biochemists of Serbia and Montenegro (SMBSM). Professor Victor Blaton, at the time President of the FESCC, supported the organization of the Symposium. Purpose of these Symposia has been to educate clinical biochemists from Balkan region to improve management, leadership skills for effective laboratories. As a result of these decision twelve symposia have been organized thus far very successfully. Here the most important Symposium topics will be reviewed. Also, the 13thEFLM Symposium for Balkan Region under the title »Laboratory Medicine Management: Leadership Skills for Effective Laboratory«(Belgrade, September 2017) is organized by EFLM and SMBS under the Auspices of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC), Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia and Ministry of Health of Serbia with participation of the European and domestic specialists in field of Laboratory Medicine.

Starting from basic theoretical insights into stress, the paper presents some techniques and ways of recognizing stress in migrant students, the competencies teachers need in order to work with children who are in a state of stress due to their migrant situation, and also some strategies, techniques and activities that should be implemented in the process of managing stress in migrant students in the education system. Particular emphasis is placed on the various forms of support for schools developed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. In this context the paper presents: The Professional Guidelines for the Inclusion of Refugee Students into the Education System, The Training Program for Reducing Stress in Migrant Situations through the implementation of these guidelines, as well as some results of the evaluation of the Program. In view of this, the paper highlights the importance of support for work with migrant children which the education system needs to provide to schools, and maps out some future activities that could contribute to this.

The use of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) as a measure of developmental instability and its relationship to stress and fitness is highly controversial. We examined whether the selection of different FA indices and traits influences the results of FA analysis. We chose four meristic traits and three FA indices (two single-trait and two multiple-trait indices) to assess FA levels in the common wall lizard (Podarcis muralis) from three different habitat types (urban, suburban and natural). Urbanization has already been linked to developmental instability in P. muralis. We therefore expected to detect different FA levels among the habitats. However, we also wanted to see whether we obtained the same patterns using different indices and traits. Our results showed that different traits can yield different FA patterns between habitats. The only statistically significant difference between habitats was detected for the FA2 index in femoral pores. The highest level of FA was detected in the urban population, while the lowest level was in the natural population. It is clear that caution must be exerted when deciding on which traits and indices are to be used for FA analysis. Abstract In accordance with priorities of sustainable development in Serbia, production and use of biomass is crucial for provision of annually renewable national sources of energy and for environmental quality conservation. Rural development has typically focused on improving agricultural production and promoting market orientation, however, as the examples of other countries in the EU accession process have shown (e.g. Slovakia), such an approach could threaten the survival of rural population. Biomass production is one of the key sectors with significant potential for diversification of rural economy. The results of multiannual research work supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia through national scientific projects and several international initiatives are summarized in this paper. The research activities focus on Miscanthus × giganteus Greef et Deu. The production potentials of miscanthus on fertile and degraded soils were investigated since 2009 in experimental plots established on moderate and extremely degraded lands in Serbia, applying various agrotechnical measures in different ecological conditions. The results show that fertile agricultural land as well as moderate degraded areas provide suitable conditions for miscanthus biomass and viable rhizomes production for energy and ecoremediation purposes.

This paper presents an innovative project “Implementation of Modern Intelligent Control Methods within the Study Module Control Systems” which is selected to be financed by Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. The project is part of a public call for projects “Development of Higher Education” and it will be realized during a school year 2018/2019. In this paper, the main goals of the project are presented and project activities and expected results are defined. Finally, three courses which are selected to be innovated through the project activities are presented in the terms of lecture topics and teaching methods.
