The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of organic and inorganic Fe supplementation on productivity of broiler chickens. The trial was conducted on 200 Arbor Acres chickens divided into four equal groups. Birds from all groups were fed standard broiler feed, supplemented with 40 mg/kg of Fe originating from different sources: Group I (FeSO4), Group II (Fe bound to yeast), Group III (ferrous ascorbate) and Group IV (iron chelate). From each group, 10 birds were sacrificed on the 21st, 35th and 42nd day and the following parameters were measured: body mass, daily body mass gain, food consumption and conversion rate. At the end of the trial, the highest average body mass was measured in the group supplemented with ferrous ascorbate (15,51% higher when compared with the group supplemented with FeSO4). The conversion rate was lower in birds supplemented with organic iron forms and had the lowest value in the group supplemented with ferrous ascorbate.

Abstract Background Beneficial effects of overweight and obesity on mortality after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have been described as “Body Mass Index (BMI) paradox”. However, the effects of BMI is still on debate. We analyzed the association between BMI and 1-year major cardiocerebrovascular events (MACCE) after AMI. Methods and findings Among 13,104 AMI patients registered in an Institute of Health in Korea between November 2011 and December 2015, 10,568 patients who eligible for this study were classified into 3 groups according to BMI (Group I; <22 kg/m2, 22 ≤ Group II <26 kg/m2, Group III; ≥26 kg/m2). The primary end point was a composite of cardiac death (CD), myocardial infarction (MI), target vessel revascularization (TVR), and cerebrovascular events at 1 year. Over the median follow-up of 12 months, the composite of primary end point occurred more frequently in the Group I patients than in the Group III patients (primary endpoint: adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 1.290; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.024 to 1.625, p=0.031). Especially, cardiac death in MACCE components played a major role in this effect (aHR, 1.548; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.128 to 2.124, p=0.007). Conclusions Higher BMI appeared to be good prognostic factor on 1-year MACCE after AMI. This result suggests that higher BMI or obesity might confer a protective advantage over the life-quality after AMI. Newcastle disease (ND) remains one of the most harmful poultry diseases that threaten the poultry industry producers all over the world, thus the present work was planned to investigate the hematological, biochemical, and pathological changes in vaccinated and non-vaccinated broiler chickens naturally infected with ND. The study was conducted on 45 broiler chickens, 35-days-old, from a private farm in Damietta governorate and used in this work, 15 chickens were clinically healthy (Group I), 30 chickens with ND symptoms divided into 15 non-vaccinated (Group II) and the other 15 chickens (Group III) were vaccinated with La Sota strain of NDV with a titre of 106.5 EID50. The disease was diagnosed by hem agglutination test as ND. Blood and tissue samples were collected for clinical-pathological and histopathological examination. The infected broiler chickens showed cyanosis, nasal discharge, edema of eyelid and white pasty diarrhea with nervous manifestations. Furthermore, microcytic hypochromic anemia with leukocytosis was observed. Biochemical studies revealed a significant decrease in serum total proteins, albumin and A/G ratio, with significant increases in serum activities of aspartate aminotransferase, creatinine, and uric acid and glucose concentration in addition to several histological alterations were significantly seen in brain, intestine, liver and kidney of the infected birds. All these disturbances were less severe in the vaccinated group than the non-vaccinated one. In conclusion, La Sota vaccine can increase the bird resistant against Newcastle disease virus induced blood disorders and hepatic-renal insufficiency in broiler chickens.


Introduction. An important reserve that provides adaptation processes in the immunoregulation system is the possibility of its various subsystems to redistribute structural and functional relationships between them. The approach from the perspective of systemic multivariate analysis will allow us to determine the main functional relationships that arise or are violated at different periods of traumatic disease in patients with an increased body mass index (IBMI) during polytrauma in the immune response as a whole. Aim. The aim of this study was to analyze the functional state of the immunological protection system for traumatic disease in patients with IBMI. Materials and methods The integral indicators of immunogenesis were determined using a systematic multivariate analysis on the basis of a dynamic study of 1344 complex immunograms in 224 patients with IBMI with polytrauma and a different initial value of BMI. Patients were divided into 3 groups: group I - 88 patients with BMI of up to 29.9 (26.1 ± 3.1); group II - 84 patients with BMI of up to 30.0 - 39.9 (35.2 ± 3.8 ), group III - 52 patients with BMI > 40.0 (46.2 ± 5.8). The study was conducted on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 30th and 360th days from the moment of receiving a polytrauma. Results. In the functional state of the immune system as a whole, certain regularities were identified in patients with IBMI with polytrauma: impairment of immunoreactive processes was prolonged for 1 year or more from the time of polytrauma, regardless of BMI, their nature is regular and unidirectional, have periods of decline and increase in activity; the degree of damage, the ability of compensatory possibilities and the ability to restore them depending on BMI, since the initial deviations of the integral indicator are almost identical in all groups of patients; the immune mechanisms at all times are most determined by the state of the cell link and complement system for patients of I and III groups. Moreover, the development mechanism of secondary post-traumatic immunodeficiency, which is associated with the inclusion of extended T-suppression and a decrease in IgA concentration for more than 14 days, depends on BMI; a clear cooperation of cellular and humoral relationships, which is aimed at compensating for its consequences, was determined in patients of group II as well as active participation in the immune reactions of HLA-DR + lymphocytes as a delicate adaptation mechanism. The development of functional instability of the system occurred mainly due to the T-cell link a year after the case of polytrauma. Conclusion. Our analysis made it possible to prove objectively on mathematical models that traumatic disease is a long process. Clinical and pathogenetic aspects of immune disorders are beyond question and provide the basis for the application of the proposed treatment algorithms and changes in stereotypes regarding the treatment approach as a whole.

Objectives. The objective of this study is to assess the state of oral health, from the perspective of the number of teeth present, according to the body mass index as a representative element of health. Materials and methods. This study consists of 180 patients from a private dental practice. All 180 patient records were reviewed for an assessment of the number of teeth present and the body mass index at menopausal age. The cohort of patients was divided into two groups, a group of women aged 40 to 54.9 years and the second group, which included women aged 55 and over. The 2 groups were divided based on premenopausal (group I) and postmenopausal (group II) age. Results. The average number of present teeth (based on radiographs) for the entire population of 180 patients is 22.02 teeth. In group I, for the 109 women in the premenopausal group, the average number of teeth is 23.94. The total number of teeth for the 71 women in the postmenopausal group is 19.07. The average BMI for the entire group of patients is 27.24 kg/m2, with a lower value in group I, 26.25 kg/m2, compared to group II, 28.78 kg/m2. Discussions. The average number of teeth in the premenopausal group is higher than in the postmenopausal group. The average body mass index places the whole series of patients in the overweight category. Conclusions. This study shows that the relationship between BMI and the number of lost teeth is positive and proportional, BMI increases with increasing number of teeth lost at premenopausal age.

The hemostasis system is one of the fast response systems of the body. The aim of the work was to analyze the dynamics of coagulation hemostasis markers in patients with an increased body mass index (IBMI) with polytrauma. A study of complex hemostasiograms was conducted in 224 patients with IBMI during a month of hospital stay with a diagnosis of Polytrauma and on the 360th control day of the outpatient visit. The patients were divided into 3 groups depending on the starting numbers of the BMI. The study included the study of activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin index, antithrombin III, plasma tolerance to heparin and fibrinogen. To process the data obtained, Student’s t test and correlation analysis were used. The condition of the coagulation situation in patients with IBMI in group I (BMI≤29.9) included a slight increase in the aggregative capacity of platelets without disturbing their number, non-intensive increases in the hemostatic potential in all coagulation tests, dysfibrinogenemia and the absence of disturbances in the system of natural anticoagulants in the early period of traumatic illness. For patients in group II (BMI 30.0–39.9) in the early stages — up to the 14th day — hyperfibrinogenemia was characteristic, with a decrease in fibrinolytic activity. For patients in group III (BMI≥40.0), it was characteristic: in the first week there was dysfibrinogenemia, a sharp — by 50% decrease in antithrombin III, and a decrease in plasma tolerance to heparin. It should be noted that a significant and growing in dynamics reduction in the amount of antithrombin III was less than 80% unfavorable for the progression of coagulation disorders. Thus, it is necessary to note the clinical and pathogenetic significance of hemostasiological disorders in traumatic disease in patients with IBMI with polytrauma, the nature, intensity, dynamics and direction of which determine the consequences and possible complications, and require specific correction. In the future we plan to study the functional state of the system of immunological protection in traumatic disease in patients with IBMI.

SUMMARY The effects of the duration and time of food availability on stimulation of the photoperiodic responses (fattening and gain in body mass, and growth and development of testes) were investigated in the migratory blackheaded bunting(Emberiza melanocephala). Two experiments were performed. Experiment 1 examined the effects of a reduction in the duration of food supply in buntings that were subjected to long day lengths (16 h:8 h L:D) and received food ad libitum (group I) or for restricted durations, coinciding with the end of the lights-on period, of 8 h (group II) and 4 h (group III). Buntings of group I gained in body mass, whereas there was a mixed response in group II (half the birds gained and half lost body mass), and all birds of group III lost body mass. There was no effect on testis growth in groups I and II, but testes grew more slowly in group III. Experiment 2 investigated the effects of both the duration and the time of food availability. Of five groups of birds, group I was exposed to an 8 h:16 h L:D photoperiod, and groups II-V were exposed to 16 h:8 h L:D. Whereas birds of groups I and II received food ad libitum, those of groups III-V were fed only for 5 h, at zt 0-5(group III), zt 5.5-10.5 (group IV) or zt 11-16 (group V), where zt =zeitgeber time and zt 0 refers to the beginning of the lights-on period. Apart from duration, the timing of food availability also had an effect on photoperiodic stimulation under the 16 h:8 h L:D photoperiod. Birds that were fed ad libitum fattened and gained in body mass, whereas among restricted feeding groups, only birds in the group fed during the first 5 h(zt 0-5, group III) showed a significant increase in body mass (albeit considerably lower than in the ad libitum group). Birds fed during the middle 5 h (zt 5.5-10.5, group IV) showed an intermediate response, and those fed during the last 5 h (zt 11-16, group V) lost body mass. Testicular growth was suppressed in birds that were fed for 5 h in the evening, but not in those fed for the same period in the morning or in the middle of the long day. Taken together, these results show that the duration of food supply and/or the time of day at which food is available affect photoperiodic stimulation of fattening and gain in body mass as well as the growth and development of gonads in the blackheaded bunting.

This study examines the levels of acylated and desacylated ghrelin, preptin, leptin, and nesfatin-1 peptide changes related to the body mass index (BMI). The subjects were allocated to 5 groups depending on their BMIs as follows: Group I (BMI <18.5 kg/m2); Group II (BMI 18.5–24.9 kg/m2); Group III (BMI 25–29.9 kg/m2); Group IV (BMI 30–39.9 kg/m2); Group V (BMI >40 kg/m2). Serum acylated and desacylated ghrelin, preptin, and leptin levels were measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and nesfatin-1 was measured by the enzyme immunoassay (EIA). Desacylated ghrelin levels showed a gradual and statistically significant drop from Group I to Group V, while preptin and leptin levels exhibited a gradual and significant increase from Group I to Group IV. Serum nesfatin-1 levels gradually, but not significantly, increased from Group I to Group III and showed a significant decrease in Groups IV and V. In conclusion, leptin, preptin, and acylated ghrelin (AG) levels increased with higher BMI, whereas desacylated ghrelin (DAG) decreased and nesfatin-1 showed no clear relationship to BMI.

Objective Obesity is a common disorder in our country. Most widely used method to gauge obesity is Body Mass Index (BMI) which is equal to weight in kilogram divided by height in meter square. The objective of our study was to find the levels of liver enzymes ALT, AST & GGT in two groups (overweight individuals and obese individuals). Methods: A total no of 156 individuals were selected for the study and they were categorized into three groups on the basis of BMI- Group I Normal, BMI 18.5 to 24.9 (n=72), Group II Overweight, BMI 25.0 to 29.9 (n=39) and Group III Obese, BMI >30 (n=45). Serum ALT, AST & GGT were estimated by Accurex AC 112 plus semi auto analyser and values were given in U/L. Results: Values of ALT, AST & GGT were with in the normal references range in all the three groups. Conclusion: No significant relation was found between ALT, AST & GGT in normal, overweight and obese individuals. This study examined the influence of fermented rapeseed meal (FRSM) on the intestinal morphology and gut microflora of broiler chickens. Limited information is available on the effects of FRSM on the intestinal morphology and the gastrointestinal microbiome population of animals. First, 48 21-day Ross 308 broilers were placed in metabolic cages and randomly assigned to four experimental groups. Group I birds were negative controls and received no additive. Group II birds were positive controls and received a 3% addition of unfermented rapeseed meal. Group III birds received a 3% addition of rapeseed meal fermented with the Bacillus subtilis 67 bacterial strain. Group IV birds received a 3% addition of rapeseed meal fermented with the B. subtilis 87Y strain. After 23 days of experimental feeding, the contents of the birds’ ceca were collected for microorganism determination. The histomorphology of the broilers’ ceca was also determined, and beneficial changes were found in the histology of the broilers’ ceca with the additives. Moreover, these materials inhibited the growth of pathogens and significantly stimulated the growth of probiotic bacteria. These results suggest that the addition of 3% FRSM has a potential probiotic effect and can be used as a material in feed for broilers.

Introduction. In recent years, the production of feed additives of animal origin in Ukraine has declined sharply, and the cost of imported additives is very high. At the same time, in our country, the industry of industrial poultry farming has recently received intensive development, in particular, the cultivation and processing of broiler chickens for meat. At the same time, a significant amount of non-food waste from poultry slaughter in many poultry farms is not processed for feed purposes. Currently, an urgent problem is the organization of processing of non-food waste of poultry for feed purposes at poultry farms of industrial type of cultivation for meat of broiler chickens, primarily from blood and hydrolyzed raw materials. Processing of these wastes for feed purposes will not only give the opportunity to increase the production of high-grade protein feed, but also to significantly improve environmental safety. The purpose of our research is to study the meat productivity, safety, slaughter yield and quality of broiler chicken meat when feeding a combined feed additive from blood and hydrolyzed raw materials. Materials and methods of research. Development of an innovative technological line for the production of a combined feed additive from blood and hydrolyzed raw materials was carried out in LLC "Complex Agromars" (village of Havrylivka, Vyshgorod district of Kyiv region), and research on the effectiveness of feeding a combined feed additive from blood and hydrolyzed raw materials was performed in the production conditions of LLC "Bila Hora" Sniatynskyi district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. Research result. Development of innovative technological line was carried out in cooperation with engineering and technical staff of LLC "Complex Agromars". The innovative technological line is designed and installed using devices and mechanisms of the company "Haarslev Industries". In order to study the effectiveness of feeding a combined blood-feather feed additive for the experiment, four groups of broiler chickens of the Cobb 500 cross were formed, 50 heads in each, according to the following scheme: one group of broiler chickens was taken as a control group, and the next three groups – as research groups. Cultivation of broiler chickens in the experiment was carried out according to the traditional technology of feeding on standard compound feeds adopted in industrial broiler poultry farming, which, depending on the age and growth of chickens, includes 3 phases: "Start" – 14 days, "Growth" – 18 days, "Finish" – 12 days. According to the scheme of experience, the control group of chickens received standard feed without blood-feather feed additive. The difference in feeding of the broiler chickens of the experimental groups was in different levels of feeding with experimental combined feed additive from blood and hydrolyzed feather raw materials, which, depending on the age and growth of chickens, included in the feed of the I group from 4 to 12%, of the II group – from 3 to 10%, of the III group – from 2 to 8%. As a result of the studies it was found that at the end of the experiment at 44-day age the average live weight of broiler chickens of the control group was 2630 g, of the experimental group I – 2885 g, of the group II –2790 g, of the group III – 2680 g. For 44 days of experience the following amounts died: in the control group – 2 chickens, in the experimental group I – 1 chicken, in the group II – no chickens, in the group III – 1 chicken. Slaughter of broiler chickens and meat tasting was carried out in the company "Bilyi Bereh" of Ternopil region at the age of 44 days. It was established that the average slaughter yield of 1 carcass of broiler chicken meat was: in the control group – 1920, in the experimental group I – 2106 g, in the group II – 2037 g, in the group III – 1956 g. The difference in quality of meat of broiler chickens of control and experimental groups by results of tasting was not revealed. Summary: In LLC "Complex Agromars" (village of Havrylivka, Vyshgorod district of Kyiv region) designed and implemented an innovative technological line for production of ecologically safe combined feed additive from blood and hydrolyzed feather raw materials from non-food waste slaughter of broiler chickens when growing for meat. In the course of scientific and economic experiment it was found that the inclusion in the standard traditional feed in different phases of cultivation of broiler chickens for meat of about 4 to 12% of the combined feed additive from blood and hydrolyzed feather raw materials increased their average live weight from 2630g in the control group to 2885 g, and the average slaughter yield of 1 meat carcass – from 1920 g in the control group to 2106 g.
