Recently, education has become a global industry driven by students who have decided to study abroad. Trends show that more and more students choose to study at universities abroad for one reason or another. The growing number of international students also means a growing number of different cultures in a classroom. Cultural diversity is a highly complex phenomenon that influences the process of learning and teaching with its elements and has both positive and negative effects. The challenges faced by students with different cultural backgrounds, their impact on learning processes and academic achievements are of interest to researchers. But it should be noted that this type of research is mostly carried out in universities, where both local and foreign students study in the same language and operate in the same linguistic and cultural environment. However, an increasing number of universities operating in a local cultural and linguistic environment offer study programs abroad (mostly in English). And these organizations, as far as foreign students, face unique problems. The results of the qualitative research show that foreign students studying in such programs face both similar andunique challenges compared to studies in universities in English-speaking countries.

While the hospitality industry in the Kenyan Coast has adopted Information and Communication Technology (ICT), application of the same is limited to internal operations and control. The industry’s e-business adoption lags behind similar industries such as tours and travel. Earlier research in e-business adoption does not suggest intervention for improvement of Small and Medium Enterprises’ (SMEs) status and lacks focus on any specific industries. The aim of this chapter is to address this gap by analyzing the Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers & Caterers’ (KAHC) e-business readiness using a three-interrelated-level framework; namely, firm level, market and industry, and institutional and regulatory levels. This chapter presents results of an ongoing project that we are currently working on, related to one of the authors’ graduate degree research program that began in 2008. In this research, we adopt a survey approach that is supplemented by case studies of other countries’ implementations from literature. Findings show that the hospitality industry at the Kenyan coast is not ready for e-business adoption and we develop a framework to help facilitate readiness. The findings imply that as a competitive strategy, establishments which have been competitors need to become collaborators; and KAHC and its membership need to adopt e-business to not only remain competitive, but also to survive. The findings are beneficial to KAHC and the Kenyan government in evaluating the status of e-business readiness as well as adoption in similar industries. Other developing countries can also adopt the framework.

An organization exists in the context of other entities (such as other organizations and governmental, political and social entities) in its organizational environments. The organization’s focal entities become its task environments that require its immediate attention and it has to interact with all such entities so that it is able to satisfy their expectations from it, and, in turn, by pursuing its strategy, it achieves its own goals. This is the model that describes the situation of any organization, including a multinational corporation (MNC) in its international and multi-cultural setting. Often, the negotiation process for meeting an organization’s needs may involve managing inherent conflict, disagreement or competing for constrained resources, thus making negotiation an arduous process. The very basis of give-and-take interactions and negotiations across different cultures, that typify an MNC in its multi-cultural setting, becomes the foundation for cross cultural negotiations. Such negotiations provide the MNC the method of communicating with its diverse entities and seek the services from them for it to achieve its goals. Because an MNC operates in an international and multi-cultural setting, its many entities are of diverse nature and cross cultural communication and negotiation skills become the critical. The inter-organizational interactions of an MNC in its international and multicultural setting become the basis of its day-to-day operations.

Diversity in cultures has become the prominent feature of 21st century. The effect of this feature can be observed in classroom environment where the teacher has students having multicultural backgrounds. Therefore, there is need to train prospective teachers for teaching in diverse/ multicultural classroom. They are not prepared for coming in contact with different cultures than the sheltered one many of them have lived in. They are not prepared for the different needs possessed by today’s multicultural student population. In this paper, we discuss not just the problems that arise due to this issue. We also discuss ways to remedy these problems, starting with pre-service teacher education programs and ending with these prospective teachers themselves.

The issue of finding the mechanisms for interaction between different cultures and religions is relevant today for many countries of the world. In the context of globalization, the establishment of intercultural ties is an extremely important process. Despite this, the issue of creating a comfortable multicultural environment for training tolerant, highly educated public and religious figures is still insufficiently researched. The objective of this study is to develop conceptual foundations for the formation of multicultural and polyreligious spiritual educational complexes as a new “universal” enlarged type of spiritual educational institution for representatives of various religions and confessions (Christian, Muslim, Jewish), as well as recommendations regarding their design, taking into account religious and confessional features. During the study, we used theoretical and empirical research methods. Based on that, the principles of the architectural and planning organization of a multicultural polyreligious spiritual educational complex are formulated, where all levels of spiritual education (primary, secondary, higher) and all functions necessary for comprehensive education, as well as intellectual and spiritual development, are presented in a holistic manner. It is concluded that the use of the developed and proposed scientific principles in the design of these objects will contribute to the formation of a harmonious multicultural and polyreligious educational environment.

One of the interesting features of L’amour, la fantasia by Assia Djebar is that it tries to combine historiography and autobiography by confronting both genres with the stories of Algerian women. More concretely, the author joins different textual sources in one multilingual palimpsest: the written text is based on oral texts and the French is based on Arabic, but also on English, Spanish, Turkish and German. The interrelations between the different components constitute as many translational stages, in a literal and in a figurative sense, at the heart of Djebar’s historiographical and autobiographical project. However, the explicit references the narrator makes to the communication problems between the French and the Algerians, draw our attention to the difficulty and pain involved in such an enterprise. L’amour, la fantasia is a novel based on the intertwining of sources of a different nature and from different languages, but all attempts at communication between the different cultures break down, and all the interpreters’ or translators’ efforts are doomed to fail.
