This research aimed to identify the types of code switching and the students’ perception about code switching used by the English teachers in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sawan. This research was conducted in descriptive qualitative design. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade students and the eighth grade English teachers. The instruments used in this study were observation sheet, questionnaire, and interview guide. The results of this research showed that there were three types of code switching used by the English teachers. The data showed there were (31.7%) of intra sentential code switching, (54.8%) of inter sentential code switching and  (13.4%) of inter personal code switching.The results of the questionnaire showed that the average responses of the students were (70.74%), it means that students were catagorized to have positive perception about the use of code switching by the English teachers. The interview shows that the students had positive response about the use of code switching by the English teachers. There were two reasons concerning the students’ positive answer, that is, code switchings that make the students understand the material more easily, and code swicthings that reduce the students’ stress in learning.

Writing skill is one of the skills that is difficult to learn because we have to know the correct sentence composition and also what we hear must be in accordance with what we write and therefore this skill is very important to learn. The objective of the research is to identify the sudents’ responses toward think talk write (TTW) strategy in teacihng writing skill. The research used descriptive qualitative design. The respondents of this research were eighth grade students of SMP Pasundan 1 Cimahi. The instrument of this research was questionnaire. The result of data analysis shows that students gave positive responses toward TTW strategy. The respondents agree that TTW strategy can increase students’ motivation, TTW Strategy can help students in improving their writing skill and TTW strategy can make teaching and learning process interesting. Keywords:  Writing, Think Talk Write (TTW) Strategy, Student’s Responses

This research aimed to describe code switching who used by the Teachers and the students especially kinds and functions to contribute to the interaction in conversation in the classroom. Codeswitching is an alternate use of two or more languages in the same utterance or conversation in a bilingual or multilingual conversation. Previous research has established that code-switching can be interpreted as a resource for bilingual or multilingual children to accomplish specific communicative goals. However, code-switching in educational settings has not been welcomed. Previous research has reported that code-switching in an educational context is considered as a deficit of interactional skills. To describe the functions, the researcher used a descriptive research which was conducted observation and interview. The location of this research was taken from the eighth-grade students of SMAN 1 Tombolo Pao, Gowa Regency with a number of the subject were 2 teachers and 36 students. The research findings of the study showed that teachers do code-switch in the conversation in the classroom, despite their claim that they do not. The English teachers used English and Indonesian. The English teachers made code switching for (1) to make questions, (2) unpleasant feeling, (3) to strengthen request or command, (4) repetition used for clarification reiteration of a message, (5) to give advice, (6) to create humor. And the students' used code switching to made they are easy to speak English and easy to understand what they want to say. Switching from English to Indonesian or other languages can also be employed as the communication strategy in English conversation classroom. The English teachers employ code switching to minimize either student's miscomprehension on the lesson or students’ difficulties in understanding the English lesson given by the English teachers in the classroom.Keywords: Code Switching, Teacher and Students Conversation

The main objective of this research that was to known about what were types and the functions of code-switching used by English teachers, and what were factors cause the English teachers to use code-switching in classroom interaction at SMKN 1Enrekang regency. This research employed a descriptive qualitative design and purposive sampling technique. The participant of this research that was an English teacher at SMKN 1 Enrekang regency. The participant consisted of 3 English teachers who belong to three grades. There were some instruments were used to collect the data in this research namely observation, interview, questionnaire, and triangulation. The main findings of this research that was the English teachers of SMKN 1 Enrekang regency known types and functions of code-switching in classroom interaction, and know some factors cause they must to use code-switching in classroom interaction.

This study aimed at finding out the process of code mixing, the reasons of using code mixing by English teacher of grade X and knowing the students’ responses on the use of code mixing used by their English teacher at SMAN Bali Mandara in the academic year 2014/2015. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The instruments used in this study were observation sheet, audio recorder, interview guide and questionnaires. Accordingly, the data accumulation showed that there was 84 sentences, classified as insertion processes, and then 37 sentences belonged to alternation process, and the last there were 14 sentences, classified as congruent lexicalization processes. The reasons of using code mixing were, 1) to make intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor, 2) to be emphatic about something, 3) there is no appropriate word which can be understood by the students, 4) to help the teacher to create relax situation, and 5) to quote somebody else.

<p>Riddle game is one of the good techniques in teaching speaking. The objectives of this research are to describe the application of riddle game in teaching speaking, identify the advantages, identify the disadvantages and identify the solution of disadvantages of riddle game.</p><p>The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research. The sources of data taken from participants, social situation and document. In this research, the researcher uses purposive sampling. To collect the data, there are observation, interview and documentation. Data validity is triangulation. The data are analyzed by using condensation, display the data, verification and conclusion.</p>The result of this research are (1) the application of riddle game in teaching speaking is divided into three steps: (a) pre-activities (b) whilst-activities (c) post-activities (2) The advantages of riddle game in teaching speaking makes the students active in learning process, happy, increase their vocabulary, able to pronounce some words well and confident to retell the story (3) The disadvantages: makes the class crowded and riddle game has limited time (4) The solution of disadvantages of riddle game is the teacher can manage the time well and able to control the students well in order to make a good atmosphere of the class.

Abstract. The objectives of this research is to figure out whether or not the implementation of SQ3R technique can improve reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of Mts Al-Khairiyah in academic year 2018/2019. Therefore, to achieve the objective, the writer conducted a action research. This research was conducted in two cycles where each cycle had 2 sessions. The data were analyzed by comparing the result of pre-test and post-test. The result post- test showed the significant improvement. This research furthermore showed that most of the subjects gave positive response that SQ3R technique was successfully applied in improving the subjects’ reading comprehension. In conclusion, the present classroom action study proved that SQ3R technique could improve reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of Mts Al-Khairiyah in academic year 2018/2019.

The objectives of this study were to describe the teachers’ ways of teaching reading of descriptive texts to tenth grade students in Deli Serdang, Indonesia and to reveal the underlying reasons for these approaches. This study was conducted by using a descriptive qualitative design. The subjects were two English teachers who taught the tenth grade students at SMA Swasta Melati Hamparan Perak in the 2018/2019 academic year. The data were collected by observing, video recording and interviewing, and were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman techniques. The findings show that the approaches that the teachers used were not focused on enabling the students to be independent or skilful readers. Most of the ways directed the students to become good at reading texts or translating the texts into Bahasa rather than teaching how to comprehend descriptive texts. Most of the approaches were focused on translation, vocabulary enrichment, stating ideas, pronunciation and managing the class. The approaches did not facilitate reading comprehension. This study aimed at a) describing the topics needed to be developed for English supplementary local wisdom-based listening materials for the eighth grade students based on Curriculum 2013 at SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja; b) describing the process of developing the English supplementary local wisdom-based listening materials for the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja; c) assessing the quality of the developed product. This study implemented Design and Development research by Richey and Klein (2007). The phases were analysis, design, development, and evaluation. The data were obtained from document study, observation sheet, interview guide, questionnaire and a scoring rubric. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of this study show that (a) the developed topics are (1) giving and responding to compliment, (2) asking and giving opinions, (3) asking and giving information about ability and willingness, (4) asking and giving information about a must, prohibition, and suggestions, (5) asking and giving instruction, invitation, and permission, (6) asking and giving information about special events or days, (7) asking and giving information about the location, things, and animals; (b) the processes of developing the materials are analyzing the English syllabus, four potencies of local wisdom of Bali, and present situation at SMPN 2 Singaraja, designing a blue print of the product, developing a blue print into a complete listening materials, and evaluating the developed materials by four expert judges; (c) the result of product evaluation done by the four expert judges shows that the developed product is categorized as excellent materials. The outcome of this study is the product which is in the form of audio recording (CD-RW) and the printed listening materials along with the answer key and listening scripts.

Code switching and code mixing have become a trend in teenagers’ communication today. Not only in communicating, code switching and code mixing also influence the author’s style in writing novels. However, recently, it is not easy to define which is code switching or code mixing because the occurrence of the codes is very tight recently. The characters in the novel often do codes at least Indonesian-English. The objectives of this study are to find out the form of codes and the sociolinguistic features of the characters in Refrain novel. This research uses descriptive qualitative design from collecting the data until analyzing them. The result of the analysis yields some forms of codes spoken by the characters in the novel. The forms are sentence, clause, phrases like noun phrase & verb phrase, and words like noun, verb, adjective, & adverb. The other problem indicating their social background reflects the sociolinguistic features of the characters. They are education, family, friendship, and occupation.

This research is analyzes about the struggle of Malala’s in He Named Me Malala film. The The purpose of this research were: (1) to describe type  of using code switching and (2) to describe the strategy behind the use code switching  made by English teachers in English language eaching and learning at SMAN 1 Padang Sago. This research used descriptive qualitative design. The  population were all English teachers in the school who taught English subject for 10th, 11th and 12 th graders in the 2019 academic year . The purposive sampling technique was employed in the research  in which the total sampling  were all 5 English  teachers. Instrumens to collect the data were observation chceklist and interview. In the observation checklist, all teachers’ utterancess were categorized according to the types and strategies of the code switching belong to. To determine the frequency of the type and strategy of the code switching emerging in observation checklist, the numberof the type and strategy that emerged were count manulay. Then, the percentage formula   was used. Then, the interview was used to validate the result gained from the observation checklist. Finally, among 110 utterances , it was found there was 4%, of  tag switching used by the tecaher,  inter-sentential switching was 36%, and intra-sentential switching was  60%,. On the other hand,  among 10  strategies of code switching proposed by Hoffman (1991), it was found that  the teacher preferred to use only 4 strategies only of which are for  scosiisted of expressing solidarity 48%, interjection7%, repetition 28%, and clarification19%).
