Teaching English to young learners is not an easy task. Teacher needs to use appropriate learning strategies so the students are engaged and motivated in teaching and learning process. The current study aimed at identifying the teaching English strategies used by fifth grade English teacher and the problems encountered by teacher in teaching English for young learner. This study was a descriptive qualitative research and conducted in SD Suta Dharma Denpasar Bali. In collecting the data, classroom observation and interview were conducted. The result showed that there were eight strategies applied by teacher in teaching English. They are; listen and repeat, listen and do, question and answer, in-pair, cooperative learning, and games. Furthermore, the problems experienced by teacher were lack of media of teaching English and lack of knowledge of strategy in TEYL. The problems occurred because the teacher has a limited knowledge on how to teach English for young learners and the lack of resources of teaching media available in school.

Vocabulary as one of English component and it’s very important to learn. Before the students master the four skills they have to know some vocabularies to support them in learning English. English vocabulary as one of the language skill elements has an important role for young learners in learning foreign languages. In presenting English, especially vocabulary, the teacher should be creative in choosing materials and able to stimulate the student's interest. The teacher needs to manipulate some strategies to support the teaching and learning process. Teaching English for young learner is different from teaching adults in a way that they are often more enthusiastic, active and easily adaptive than adults. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research is a descriptive qualitative research that focuses on vocabulary building strategy in teaching vocabulary to young learners. It describes the technique and method used by the teacher in teaching English vocabulary to young learner.

The aim of this research was to describe the use of Think Pair Share technique in teaching speaking at the eighth grade of a Junior High School in Bandung. Think Pair Share is a part of cooperative learning strategies that enables the students work together in a small group. The research was conducted using qualitative research method involving 25 students as the research subjects. The data were gathered from observation and questionnaire. The result of the data analysis indicated that the students’ experience after they were taught by using Think Pair Share has shown their excitement towards the teaching process as described. There are good implications in speaking performance after learning by Think Pair Share technique. Think Pair Share technique in this case can be one of the alternative teaching techniques used by the English teacher in teaching English, especially speaking. Keywords: Speaking, Think Pair Share

This research discusses the involving chain massage to accommodate young learners' learning style in which is conducted at grade 4 of one elementary school in Bandung. The aim of this research are (1) involving chain massage games in teaching English to the young learner, especially in grade 4 of an elementary school in Bandung, (2) finding out teacher’s and children’s responses toward the implementation of chain message in TEYL. This research uses a qualitative study where there are 40 students and one English teacher as the participants. The findings of this study show that chain messages can be considered as an effective activity of TEYL.The children seem to learn English more excitedly by game. With regard to the teacher, chain message game creates classroom activities more interesting and joyful because the children’s are involved in. Moreover, this game is also support different learning style of the children, visual, auditory and kinesthetic. However, the teachers found some obstacles in implementing the technique because they still children who easily get bored.

This study has two purposes, the first is describing how the teacher’s preparation the instructional media and the second one is explaining how the teacher’s utilized the instructional media in teaching English to young learners. This study was conducted in SDN Baros Mandiri 3 Cimahi at fifth-grade students. To collect the data the researcher used observation in the classroom and interview with the English teacher. This method used a descriptive qualitative. The result of this study showed that in preparing the instructional media the teacher did two kinds of preparation. The English teacher’s stated that the preparation was: first, selecting the suitable instructional media related to the material that will be taught. Second, mastering the material for delivering to students. The instructional media used by the English teacher’s is flashcards, the English teacher’s stated that flashcards are mostly because it doesn’t need a lot of preparation. Flashcards are also useful to help the teacher in the learning process because the students can visualize the words through seen at the flashcards. The use of flashcards also easy, the teacher only needs to show one by one of the pictures to all students and they would be guessed the name of the pictures related to the material, students who can guess will come to the front of the class and write down the word in English.

Vocabulary is one of the most important things to teach English to young learners, however in the practice it faced some issues especially on the use of medias, the use of media which is not interesting can make students’ easy to get bored in learning. This research paper is intended at increasing vocabulary mastery and describing the implementation of teaching vocabulary by using storytelling to teach vocabulary to the fifth grader students of Jamaras elementary school. This research focused to get insight on the implementation of storytelling by using finger puppet in teaching vocabulary to young learners, to find out the strength and weaknesses of teaching vocabulary through story telling using finger puppet, and to find out the students response in teaching vocabulary through storytelling using finger puppet. This study employed a qualitative design. The researcher used two narrative stories to gather the data. Concerning the qualitative data, this research collected and analyzed data from classroom observation, guided interview, and guided questionnaire. This research was conducted in elementary school in Cianjur, involving a teacher and students of Jamaras elementary school. The participants were ten students of the fifth grade. The findings show, that storytelling by using finger puppet is beneficial to teach vocabulary, because it made the student easy to get new vocabulary. Whereas the strengths of the use of storytelling using puppet in teaching vocabulary were the students were more interested and not bored in the learning process. The weaknesses of the use of implementation storytelling using puppet was the students more focus on puppet than on the story that conveyed by the teacher and also from the students response from the questionnaire teaching vocabulary through storytelling can help them to get the new vocabulary in a fun way.

Competency is a set of knowledge, skill and experience necessary for the future, which manifest in their activity (White, 1959). Teaching competency reflects how teacher’s ability in teaching and learning activity. Regarding to English teaching and learning to foreign learners, young learners are also exposed to have this language mastery. But Indonesian Government (see 2013 Curriculum of Elementary School) limits the subjects in Elementary School into six subjects and English is excluded. For some elementary schools, English is not give, but some others English is put as Local Content. The decision of local content here is based on the need of society, and it is happened in some elementary school in Indramayu. Thus, an English teacher for young learners in some elementary schools should reflect their competency in teaching English. She/he should be occupied with knowledge, skill and experience that needed to teach English to young learners so the purpose can meet the need. The aim of this research is to find out teaching competence of English teacher in teaching English to young learners. By conducting qualitative descriptive, this research uncovered the competency of teacher in planning the lesson, media and the implementation so it can be a consideration to put back English subject as one of main subjects in Elementary School. From the finding, it can be seen that some English teachers had made their efforts on performing good ability in teaching English such as in lesson planning, teaching media, teaching and learning activity and teaching assessment. While the challenges in teaching English to young learners were from students’ behavior. The students’ unawareness, unwillingness and laziness to study were the challenges of teaching English for young learners.

The media is a communication tool for teacher interaction with students which is a series of teaching and learning activities in schools. In the learning process the teacher has obstacles in conveying knowledge to students. The teacher needs media to be able to help attract the attention of students so that learning objectives are achieved. Picture card learning media can help teachers effectively achieve learning objectives in the teaching and learning process. This study applies a picture card learning media to students in class V SD Negeri 4 Tanjung Aman. The aim is to find out the improvement in student learning outcomes after the teacher applies the pictorial card learning media to fifth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Tanjung Aman. In this study using a design that is the Initial Test - The Final Group Single Test (The One Group Pretest - posttest). The learning outcomes in this study were obtained by the fifth grade students before and after the implementation of the pictorial card media, to find out the improvement in the learning outcomes of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Tanjung Aman. shows that the mean or posttest average is higher than the pretest. Mean posttest 62.22 and mean pretest 46.25, so there is an increase in learning outcomes after the application of the pictorial card media to fifth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Tanjung Aman.

To enable Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) to become the Asia-Pacific centre for wetlands development in 2027, one of the efforts ULM makes is to raise awareness about the importance of optimising human resources in wetlands through research and development in the educational and cultural fields. English is considered a foreign language in Indonesia, allowing students to use the language outside of academic settings. English becomes a required subject in junior and senior high school; however, the government requires that English be taught in primary schools as a local topic. English, on the other hand, remains a mandatory subject in a large number of Indonesian primary schools, particularly in Banjarmasin. The issue arises in primary school English instruction because there is no clear guidance for teachers on how to teach English in an appropriate and engaging manner for the students. Due to the absence of a monograph book on teaching methods, teachers in some primary schools in Banjarmasin, particularly those located in wetland areas, have limited access to teaching English to young learners (EYL). In light of the university's policy and the critical nature of achieving teaching and learning objectives, as well as the absence of a suitable reference book for teaching EYL, this study aims to develop an appropriate monograph book on teaching techniques for students of young ages. The research and development design is chosen because it aims to create a product and meets the needs of the reference book's development. The results are expected to improve students' academic performance and to assist EYL teachers in wetland areas in conducting effective and meaningful teaching.

In Indonesia, English is a foreign language, hence not easy to teach English to young learner in Indonesia, thus, need something interesting to teach English to young learners, one of which uses instructional media. Instructional media as a tool needed to facilitate the teachers in presenting the material, but many English teachers in Indonesia find it difficult to use instructional media in the classroom. This study aims to (1) how the teacher applied the instructional media in the classroom. (2) to investigate problems faced by the teacher, and (3) elaborate the teacher's strategies in solving problems using the instructional media. This study was conducted a case study design, by using observation and interviews to collect data. In the investigation teachers do not have free access to use the media provided at school. Thus, they faced obstacles to provide proper media in classroom. This study aimed to synthesize the best available qualitative research evidence on nurse educators’ experiences with student incivility in undergraduate nursing classrooms. A meta-synthesis of qualitative evidence using thematic synthesis was conducted. A systematic search was performed of 12 databases for relevant literature published by March 31, 2019. Two reviewers independently conducted critical quality appraisals using the checklist for qualitative research developed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Eleven studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected for review. From the pooled study findings, 26 descriptive themes were generated and categorized into the following 5 analytical themes: (1) factors contributing to student incivility, (2) management of student incivility, (3) impact: professional and personal damage, (4) impact: professional growth, and (5) initiatives for the future. Many nurse educators became confident in their role of providing accountability as both educators and gatekeepers and experienced professional growth. However, others experienced damage to their personal and professional life and lost their motivation to teach. Nurse educators recommended the following strategies for preventing or better managing student incivility: institutional efforts by the university, unified approaches for student incivility within a nursing program, a faculty-to-faculty network for mentoring, and better teaching and learning strategies for individual educators. These strategies would help all nurse educators experience professional growth by successfully preventing and managing student incivility.
